  • "We had the most amazing time at Gun End Cottage."

We stayed as two families, 4 boys and three Adults. This cottage was a very comfortable size for us all. We didn't manage to take advantage of the stunning views whilst having a bbq as unfortunately it was quite a drizzly week (didn't stop the adventures though!) Was a great area with lots of beautiful scenery to take in. We would definitely return to Gun End Cottage in the future. Thank you Margaret and Janet.

Plenty of space for 6 adults and one teen. Communication was easy with the owner, great directions in the description which are useful as the sat nav takes you a little off track. I'd thoroughly recommend Gun End cottage for anyone wanting to explore the Peak District. Will definitely return.

Perfect for 3 couples and 2 children. The lambs in the next field came right up to the conservatory window. We had a great long weekend, with lots to do locally and beautiful scenery.

  • "The location is wonderful - quiet and rural with lots of walking and other attractions within easy distance."

Wincle Brewery a highlight. For 8 adults though this cottage would be tight. The garden was smaller than we expected and parking three cars very difficult (though we did find alternative parking across the road). It is also not totally toddler friendly but ours was fine with supervision.

  • "The cottage was really comfortable, warm and clean."

Everything we needed was provided and the location was peaceful and easy to find. My only slight disappointment was that the garden wasn't as big as I had expected from the photographs but it didn't really matter. We managed a couple of short walks from the doorstep with an OS map and drove for other more well-trodden routes. The conservatory at the back made an excellent boot room! I would definitely visit again and recommend to friends.

  • "This cottage is just lovely, it is well equipped, you will not need to bring anything with you apart from food, we found it got a little chilly in the evenings, so just put on the heating for an hour or so and it was lovely and toasty, it is set in the most beautiful of places, with a field of sheep adjacent to the property."

I wouldn't say it is within walking distance of anything, but there is a lovely pub called the Ship just a short drive away. We have absolutely enjoyed our week in this cottage and i'm sure we will be back in the future.

It was well equipped with everything we could need and the owners had left milk and tea bags. Pleasant walking at Rudyard lake a short drive away. Car parking a bit tight for 3 cars at the cottage but there is a car park for the health centre just over the road that we managed to use as it was a weekend. Postcode on Sat nav takes you out of the way, follow signs for swythamley and Heaton centre.

  • "Gun End Cottage is situated in a lovely isolated location with fantastic views of the surrounding countryside."

The cottage itself is warm and comforting in the winter months. It has everything you need for a self catering stay and is conveniently located for functions at Heaton House Farm, where we attended a wedding. There was a slight mix up with the keys but this was speedily corrected, without detriment to our stay, and the sisters could not apologise enough for the small oversight. There are four good sized bedrooms, a large sitting room and an equally large kitchen table around which you can all eat in comfort, making it an ideal place to stay if you have a large group of people in your party. If the need arises in the future I would have no hesitation in staying at this property again.

  • "A lovely cottage with plenty of good walks and beautiful countryside within a short distance."

It was well equipped and laid out, and had been prepared very nicely for us. We use the DVD player to watch a film one evening; it worked well and instructions were easy to follow. Our group has two trips a year and we all agreed this had been one of the best - the fabulous May weather helped of course! Just two very minor niggles - one is that it looks as though no expense has been spared for most of the work in the cottage - fittings are done to a very high standard, the furnishings were great, etc. But the pans in the kitchen were very thin bottomed, and although we're all pretty experienced cooks we had problems with burning the pan bottoms. The other point wasn't one that bothered us particularly, but it might be worth flagging up more clearly that there's no wifi in the cottage. Some people will see this as an advantage anyway (it may help get the kids away from their screens!), others might not be aware of it as wifi is becoming more standard these days, and may see it as a negative. These are really minor points. Overall we had a very good stay and the cottage definitely met or exceeded expectations. Thanks!

The cottage was slightly tired in places (pen on a cupboard, cracks in the wall) but it was so nice overall these things were barely noticeable. The Sykes experience was very good and I would use their website again. We noticed that the info for our cottage needed updating & I wonder if Sykes prompt owners well enough to do up dates? Thanks
