It was simply just perfect! Exactly what we needed, it was cute, homely, clean and just a great place to unwind. The Grounds are stunning and you're actively encouraged to explore them. The "personal" grounds / garden is a lovely place to relax in private with a glass of wine and the sounds of nature. Would Highly Recommend!

  • "Mark, our host, was extremely welcoming and very helpful."

The Bothy was scrupulously clean and thoughtfully decorated and equipped. We had everything we needed which is a rare occurrence in holiday properties in our experience. This especially applied to the kitchen as during our visit indoor eating venues were still closed so more catering than usual was done in the accommodation. A beautiful area with much to explore. We enjoyed the English Heritage properties nearby many of which are free to enter.

  • "This cottage looked perfect for us when making on line selections, and it exceeded our expectations."

Detached and set in 8 acres of glorious gardens, it is a wonderfully peaceful setting. The interior is beautifully decorated and furnished, and was extremely clean and well equipped. There is a gorgeous view from every window. The easy to control central heating, tasteful lamps and the wood burning stove created a warm and cosy environment despite typical December weather. It was so uplifting to spend time in the cottage we barely went out! We met with one of the owners on arrival and departure, and he was very friendly and helpful. I cannot praise this property highly enough and we would love to return.

The cottage itself has everything you need and the cleanliness was to a very high standard. The furnishings are perfect for that cottage feel and it was nice surprise to get a lovely welcome pack from the owner, thank you so much. The cottage itself is in a very private part of the grounds of Meeson Hall but to be able to explore all the gardens was truly amazing. We're looking forward to staying here again.

  • "We stayed only one night."

We had wanted to postpone the holiday due to Covid 19 but were assured that the place would have been cleaned by specialists. We were disappointed however although it had been cleaned after the previous occupant it was not up to the standard we expected. Sofas were badly stained cutlery was dirty along with the fridge. The garden was overgrown, patio dirty. Warnings about not leaving doors open in case Foxes or badgers may come in was information we did not want to hear. Covid and our age 74 left us feeling vulnerable and uncomfortable. We have stayed with Sykes quite a few times and have never been disappointed before, however we may now decide not to book again. I

Firstly, as the reviewer states, they had wanted to postpone the booking to next year at short notice because they were nervous of travelling during the Covid 19 outbreak. Unfortunately, we were unable to agree to their request because they had left it too late for us to re-book with another client. We never claim that our cottages are cleaned by ‘specialists’. We have our own experienced cleaning staff who, for many years have cleaned the three cottages and the hotel rooms at Meeson Hall, all of which receive good reviews of cleanliness both on the Sykes website and on Tripadvisor. Cutlery and crockery are put through the dishwasher and fridges, freezers and cookers are thoroughly cleaned after each letting. We have never before received a complaint on cleanliness. Any marks on soft furnishings are removed after each letting with Dr Beckman cleaner. On arrival, we apologised that the grass round the cottage was a bit longer than we usually keep it because we had had so much rain over the previous week that the groundsmen had been unable to cut it. However, we advised that it was due to be cut on the following Monday, which it was. The patio is always swept between lettings, although we had had some high winds which may have blown a few leaves on to it. We are in a country setting and surrounded by trees which most people find attractive. The property is single storey, and the main bedroom has bi-fold doors. It is common sense in a property set in 8 acres of park-like grounds and surrounded by farmland, to close fulllength doors at night against the possible intrusion of wildlife, be it pheasants, rabbits. foxes, or whatever. This has nothing to do with Covid or age (I am 74 myself). When these clients telephoned on the Saturday morning to say that they had left and had left the keys in the door, we asked if there was a problem. The answer was ‘no problem, we just had to go home’ Property Owner

  • "We had a wonderful stay at The Bothy, the cottage is clean and well equipped."

The cottage is in the beautiful manicured grounds of Meeson Hall which are great for a stroll but a particular luxury for us living in the city was the lovely private garden. We had a day out to The Wrekin, a nice woodland and hill walk. It is also within driving distance to Ironbridge and Shrewsbury for a day out, but we found the cottage was great for just relaxing. We would definitely recommend The Bothy for a peaceful couples getaway.

The cottage had every thing needed, so no need for extra cleaning things, towels, ironing board etc. Really every thing except meals. The grounds area had nice walks and a plethera of wild life especially squirrels. Cant fault it. Nit picking......somewhere to put the soap in the shower. Worth it all round.

  • "A lovely comfortable Bothy set in the grounds of Meeson Hall which is a delight in itself."

You are encouraged to wander all the grounds and at night the Hall is lit up which is quite magical. All the positive feedback comments already published on The Bothy we totally agree with - there are no negatives. It was lovely to arrive on a bit of a chilly day to find the heating and lights on to welcome us. The heating is a marvellous system. Mark and Adrian have thought of everything for your comfort, great hosts and would be there if you needed them. It was just like staying in the grounds of a National Trust property and it was all ours! The last half mile to the property is a single road, we never met anyone, and Mark tells us that the locals are very thoughtful if you do meet. Other than that the roads are fine and there are many interesting places to visit. On a rainy day there would be no better way to spend it than at RAF Cosford. Two veterans, one in their 90's and the other 100, were there to talk to and I think this would be a regular thing. It was quite special. Thank you to a previous reviewer who more or less wrote a Travel Guide to the area, which we followed! If you are there on a day when the Gardner is at Meeson Hall, which is quite likely, say hello to Joe and his colleague. A great stay, so comfortable, we were at home within minutes.

There is a covered veranda to sit under in a west facing garden, very private and quiet. Only noises we heard were birds and tractors in the adjoining fields. Bed was one of the most comfortable we’ve ever slept in. Lovely welcome basket from owners, always appreciated. Unlike some places we’ve stayed the sofas were very comfortable and we enjoyed lounging the day away. The location is ideal for exploring the delights of Shropshire and neighbouring counties, would highly recommend staying here. Don’t be put off by comments regarding the single lanes approaching Meeson Hall as they are for only a short distance and nowhere near as ‘single’ as the ones to be found on Devon and Cornwall!
