The site was historically occupied by a water powered mill and small holding along with its own chapel.

Cuckney has an abundance of historical buildings and features worth noting being part of the Welbeck Estate and its fascinating history, the site was originally a water mill dating back hundreds of years. Sherwood Forest and the Major Oak are a short journey away by car along with Clumber Park and Welbeck Harley gallery museum and the artisan bakery school. The wonderful wedding venue at Hazel Gap is also just a short car journey away. All are interconnected by the national cycle route which is also easily accessible from the village. Warsop is not too far away and has a fantastic range of shops, pubs and restaurants to enjoy at your leisure. Warsop has plenty of historical buildings and features including a water mill and a windmill dating back hundreds of years. It hosts an annual carnival involving music and sports, held every July. Further afield, the cities of Sheffield, Nottingham and Derby will leave you spoilt for choice, all-year-round.
