  • "Lovely cottage in a great location - lovely village with great access to Bakewell, Matlock and Ashbourne."

Good facilities and well maintained. Could be warmer downstairs.

Thank you for your lovely feedback! We do allow guests to adjust the temperature on the thermostat to their comfort if they are too hot or too cold. We agree that Birchover is one of the best villages in the Peak District! We hope that we can welcome you back again soon. Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage."

6 of us stayed for the weekend and had a lovely time. Cottage very comfortable and 2 village pubs in walking distance, one of which we had a lovely meal at. Also plenty of walking from the doorstep. One very minor point / observation was only exact number of wine glasses and no Prosecco glasses.

Thank you for coming to stay at Andlestone and leaving such positive feedback! We're so glad that you found the cottage so comfortable and that you took full advantage of the great walking and superb pubs that we have right on our doorstep! We are conscious of leaving guests enough space in the kitchen, but we have now popped in some prosecco/champagne flutes as well as the wine glasses. We do hope that we can welcome you back again in the near future! Property Owner

Everything we needed. Had a great holiday. Only thing missing was a teapot.

Thank you so much for leaving us 5/5 feedback! We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay and found Andlestone so comfortable and well equipped. We think our teapot must have gone walkabout, so we have now replaced that. We do hope that we can welcome you back again soon! Property Owner

  • "We found the double bed uncomfortable."

This was due to the sheets and mattress. The bottom sheet was not fitted and ended up untucked and wrinkled up. Had to remake bed every day. No garlic press. Huge frying pan which was great but a smaller one as well would be useful too. No markings on the oven. The instructions say press OK. Took a while to work out which one to press. This is not a complaint just our thoughts. Fab location and great walking area.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We are so pleased that you found the location of Andlestone to be so fabulous! Sorry about the issues that you experienced with the bottom sheet on the double bed. Our linen company stopped providing fitted double sheets without notice. We have now changed our linen supplier and all beds have fitted sheets again. We hope this didn't affect your stay too much and are glad that you found such great walking in the area - many routes can be taken right from the front door, which is one of our favourite things! We hope that we can welcome you back again soon. Property Owner

But apart from this tiny point a fantastic cottage in a wonderful location that we will recommend to friends.

Thank you so much for your lovely review! We completely agree that Andlestone is a very special place - the sight of the sun streaming in through the chapel windows in the morning can't be beaten! We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay and would recommend us to your friends. We hope to be able to welcome you back again soon! Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely short break at Andlestone."

The property was spotlessly clean, very comfortable and well equipped and we liked the "upside down" nature of it. The living accommodation upstairs was very roomy and spacious - we liked the fact that the cooking, dining and seating area was altogether, making it a very sociable space. Bedrooms were lovely - very comfortable beds and bed linen, and two good size bathrooms. The owners Andrea and David were very helpful and accommodating throughout. We ate at the Druid Inn and were made to feel very welcome by their friendly staff - food was delicious too! All in all an excellent break. We thoroughly recommend Andlestone and we hope to return soon.

Thank you for staying and leaving us such a great 5* review! We really do feel that Andlestone is unique, with it's fantastic Peak District village setting, original chapel features and having so much space for enjoying time with family. • "Firstly the positives, great location with access to lots of what the Derbyshire Dales has to offer."

The place was very clean and the bathrooms clean and modern. The living room area was nice and comfortable and having 2 pubs in the village gave us a nice choice. Secondly, the negatives, the kitchen is quite small and not great when you're trying to prepare a meal for 5 adults and it could really do with a bigger fridge. The corkscrew was broken, which we didn't realise until we tried to use it which put everyone into a panic as you can imagine. The ladies thought a hairdryer would have also been a nice touch. The biggest issue for us was the single bed mattresses. These are fine I imagine if they are being used by kids but for adults with older bones they weren't very comfortable. We did have a lovely stay though and would recommend the place if you only intend to have kids in the single beds and plan to eat out most evenings. Thanks

Thank you for coming to stay at Andlestone and taking the time to leave a review. We are so pleased that you found Andlestone to been clean and appreciated the modern bathrooms. We think that the combination of old and new, coupled with the fantastic location, are what helps make Andlestone so special. Thank you for your other comments. We do monitor guest feedback closely and, in light of that, we have now replaced all of the mattresses and one of the sets of bedding at the property. We have also now placed a hairdryer in the main bedroom. We can empathise with your panic at finding the broken corkscrew! We can only apologise for this, it had been broken by previous guests who unfortunately hadn't told us. We replaced it straight after your stay and hope that we can welcome you back in the future to enjoy a bottle of wine on us! Property Owner

  • "This was an affordable stay with a spacious lounge area, however the kitchen was not sufficient for self catering and the 4x single mattresses were incredibly uncomfortable which somewhat spoilt the trip."

Thank you for staying at Andlestone and taking the time to leave a review. We are sorry that you found the single mattresses uncomfortable. You were the first guests to make this comment and since your stay, we have now replaced all of the mattresses and also one of the sets of bedding at the property. In terms of the kitchen, just to clarify, Andlestone has a full kitchen, which is well equipped. From your email to us, we understand that you would have liked the kitchen to be bigger. We understand that each guest is different and that at the current time guests are eating in more often than they would have done previously. As you say, the lounge area is very spacious, we feel that the large, open-plan living and dining area is what makes Andlestone unique. Other guests have commented on how much they loved sitting around the large table as a family. Increasing the size of the kitchen would eat into this space and so we feel that, on balance, the size of the kitchen is appropriate. We do hope that we can welcome you back in future Property Owner

Everything was very clean and neat. We were there 2 weeks and the cleaning company came in half way through to change the bedding and towels. We had a problem with one of the bathroom doors and the owner was very quick to respond and fix it. I would ask that you make it clear that there is no garden as we took our dog. Also if you are staying 2 weeks as we did there is very little storage space for food But overall an amazing stay. We left lots of recommendations in the book of places to see and eat. A

About the location

WINSTER

Bakewell 6 miles; Matlock 4.5 miles.

The conservation village of Winster is situated within the White Peak area of the Peak District National Park and is an extremely pretty place, with a charming 17th century market house at its centre, and other imposing 17th and 18th century houses, many three storeys high. The three main streets - Main Street, East Bank and West Bank are interconnected by alleyways known as ‘ginnels’, which are well worth exploring. The village of Winster is famous for its Morris dancers, the annual Shrove Tuesday pancake race, Wakes festivities in June, and the Secret Gardens of Winster event in July. Within the village there is a well-stocked, community-owned general store incorporating a Post Office. There are two pubs, both serving food and traditional beer. Bakewell, Matlock, Chatsworth House, and the Peak Rail Steam Railway are all nearby and, for keen walkers and cyclists, The Limestone Way runs along the edge of the village. The Tissington and High Peaks walking and cycling trails, with bike hire available, both lie less than 5 miles from the village, a wonderful base for exploring the Peak District.
