  • "Lovely property."

Had everything we needed and was perfect for our family get together for my husband's 70th. Well positioned for visiting all the sites round about and happy hours spent sitting round the dining room table and playing games in the living room in the evenings. Croquet was challenging trying to avoid balls going over the steep sloop on the garden. Pippin had a wonderful week but was a bit perplexed when her ball disappeared into the wilderness beyond the garden (fortunately there were several humans willing to retrieve it). Biggest improvement would be to cut back the vegetation on the roadside coming out of the property so drivers could see the fast traffic coming from the right and also a post or sign of some sort as it was difficult to see the entrance to the property. But otherwise would highly recommend.

Thanks very much for your feedback Mary, we are glad to hear you all had a fantastic time. We will take a look at the hedges at the main road with a view to improve visibility. Croquet sounds very much fun. Hope you had a safe trip home Regards Matt and Liz Property Owner

  • "Gorsthead Mill Farm was absolutely perfect for what we needed."

A beautiful house, ideal for a large family get away. The living spaces inside the house were perfect and very sociable, and we were able to sit outside in the garden and enjoy the sunshine! We loved it and will definitely be back.

Thanks for your feedback Laura, We are really pleased you had a lovely time at Gorsthead Mill Farm. We are aware that the outside furniture is in need of a re-fresh so have a new table which can seat 8 comfortably, but hopefully 12 (including small people) which will make the outside space a little more sociable. We look forward to having you back Regards Matt Property Owner

That was a problem only because we are not teenagers any more. We did have a problem with the hot water every day ,the boiler kept showing F1 so had to telephone the owner who told us to press in a certain place on the boiler. he told me a gas engineer would be attending the property on Thursday morning he never got back to me and the problem was still occuring on friday.More cold showers for other clients!!!

  • "Overall good and mostly what I expected."

The photo was misleading as I was expecting a larger lawn, essential as our party consisted of 5 children. The kitchen equipment was very good and the bedrooms in the main house good. My daughter didn't like the bedside basket tables as these were not stable enough for a wine glass!! We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the children enjoyed the toy box and the garden, especially the ford. The only negatives from the adults in the party was that the property was looking a bit tired and I did think the torn armchair didn't help. The Annex games room we stayed in had a shower problem, in that it didn't adjust and the water was too hot and a shower screen problem as water went all over the floor. We all thought it was cheeky to ask for money for the logs, as we thought the price and the star rating should have included these.

Thanks for your feedback Patricia, this is all gratefully received. We’ve arranged a replacement shower and shower screen for the annexe, had the majority of the downstairs redecorated, installed new bed side cabinets in the end bedroom (which have been wine tested!). Additionally we will review the honesty box process for logs to ensure we are aligned with the industry. Hope to host you again in the future. Property Owner

Had a great stay with the family and lots of room in the house to help us have an enjoyable holiday. Weather was kind so we were able to sit out in the garden and enjoy the quiet of the country. Lucky enough to see the steam train go by one afternoon which was a bonus. Peak District is one of my favourite places for walking so being so close to the Roaches is great.

Owner very helpful and even called us while we were there to check everything was OK. Access to local fields was great, but due to the weather we didn't venture too far by foot. Great kitchen + diner, lounge with log burner (which got a bit cold), very useful boot room (could do with some coat hooks!), comfy beds. Overall It's not far to Leek which was worth a visit, as was the Peak Wildlife Park down the road.... as long as you can find the turning upon your return in the dark, as it's easy to miss. Overall - very good.

Good food and drink were enjoyed in the well equipped spacious kitchen - also challenging games in the evening. A lovely setting very peaceful and we could imagine it would be very relaxing in the warmer months of the year. Good location - within easy reach of many local attractions to suit all our needs - perhaps the entrance to the drive from the main road could be a little clearer? it is ok once found but is something of a challenge when you do not know the area. All in all a good location, beautiful surroundings and a comfortable holiday home.

I would definitely recommend it. Me and my 7 friends stayed here for my 40th birthday weekend and we had an amazing time, in part because of the beautiful house and surroundings. The house had everything we needed (even a slow cooker) and it was warm and comfortable and inviting. The weather was snowing at the time and it was lovely to settle down in front of the log burner and keep warm and cozy. The house is clean, the bedrooms are large and spacious and the beds are pretty comfy too. The bed linen was clean and crisp and the bath towels were soft and fluffy. Perfect. The owner is lovely and makes sure you’re all settled and everything is ok which was really lovely and welcoming. We went to a lovely local pub (the jarvis arms) for Sunday dinner which was delicious. We will definitely book again maybe in the summer or autumn so we can go for long walks round the surrounding areas without our wellies.

The property

A stunning, designer detached country house situated in 2.3 acres of grounds in the village of Bradnop near Leek.

This superb house is perfect for a large family or group of friends looking for a bit of luxury to come home to after a day exploring the nearby Peak District.

The tastefully furnished entrance hall is an impressively large boot room, ideal for getting out of your walking boots and drying the dogs.

Then pass through to the large contemporary kitchen with a breakfast and dining area which is a fantastic place to gather while you discuss the day’s busy itinerary.

The sitting room is beautifully finished with high quality sofas and French windows opening out to the garden.

There’s a woodburning stove to set the atmosphere while you sit and chat or enjoy a favourite movie together.

The contemporary design and quality continues through to the light and airy bedrooms, one of which opens out to a huge decked roof terrace where you can step out of bed and greet the morning sun or enjoy a glass of wine as the sun dips over the horizon.

As you’d expect, the bathroom is very high end with a designer roll-top bath and large walk-in shower.

Across the courtyard is a separate garage annexe which has been cleverly adapted to create a first floor apartment with a double bed and a sitting area with a sofa bed, TV and games console making it a great place to park teenagers or a place to break away from the madding crowd.

The annexe also has a contemporary shower room, so it is completely self-contained if required.

Sit out on the patio and enjoy a barbecue as the kids run off the last of their energy.

The grounds are beautiful with countryside all around and a babbling river flows along the bottom of the garden where you can watch the wildlife and nod to the occasional passing farmer crossing the ford.

Tempting though it might be to spend your whole time here, there is plenty to do within easy reach, whether it's riding at the equestrian centre just up the road, exploring Leek, Hartington or Bakewell or driving the short distance into the breathtakingly beautiful Peak District with the Roaches nearby.

A luxurious retreat to be enjoyed any time of year.

Note: This property has a refundable Good Housekeeping bond of £150.
