Plenty of space for 11 people, well laid out and comfortable. Perfect for families of all ages (we were aged 11 to 90 yrs) A great experience to be on a working dairy farm and would highly recommend a farm tour. Lots to do in the surrounding area too.

Fantastic accommodation for our family holiday. We couldn’t travel on our arrival date due to storm Eunice and the owners very kindly took our food delivery in for us as we were not there. Michelle and Samantha gave us a tour of the farm, which was so interesting and fun. Can’t wait to come back!

  • "We booked The Barn for a girlie weekend away as a well deserved break."

The property itself was amazing, located on a working dairy farm. Loads of space - all the rooms were well presented and there was even a games room which was great! Vicky and the family had left a delicious cake for our arrival as well as stocked up on the essentials: milk, teabags, coffee and even wine! A wonderful welcome after the drive over. And they even helped us out with some salt and pepper when we realised we hadn't brought any. A wonderful weekend in a wonderful home.

We had an amazing time. Every facility you could possibly wish for had been provided by the host. We loved the wine, sponge cake and new laid eggs; a generous touch. Our Grandchildren enjoyed using the games room and the Pool table kept them busy for a good while. The Farm tour was much appreciated and a pleasant surprise. I would highly recommend this property.

  • "The Barn was very spacious, well proportioned and extremely well equipped both inside and out."

We had everything we needed for our stay which included 3 generations with the youngest having just turned 3. The whole property was extremely clean and fresh given its location in the centre of a working dairy farm and access to the property was straightforward with plenty of parking for all 3 cars. We all enjoyed our very informative farm tour especially our four youngest members who couldn’t get enough of the young calves and chickens. I would most certainly recommend The Barn as our whole party had an excellent time in great surroundings.

Bedrooms upstairs ran into each other, so that access to stairs or bathroom from some rooms, was only possible by passing through others. Would not be ideal for all groups , but fine for family groups and children.

On our arrival, the cottage was immaculate. And we found a freshly baked cake in the kitchen and eggs in the fridge. We were well-looked after. The kids (young and old) loved the games room, and we were so happy that there was play equipment available for our toddler too. It's a lovely cottage, and if you don't mind being woken up by the cows on the farm, then I'd recommend staying here. Thank you.

  • "The cottage was excellent - spacious, clean and well appointed."

The owners were very responsive to any issues and the “extras” - cake on arrival, essentials in the fridge - were a great addition. The farm experience was a treat for the under 5’s in our party and the farm tour a highlight of the week. We were made to feel welcome on a working farm. Our only quibble with the experience was Sykes itself. The automated emails came regularly and impersonally but were basically fine. Our telephone experience when we had a query about dates was less good. It took a very long time to make contact and we sensed that the person we spoke to was not familiar with Sykes procedures. We were eventually able to make the necessary change but it was a long winded process. We do however understand that these are not normal times.

However we will NEVER use Sykes (or any of their associated companies) again as they are only interested in taking money from customers without providing any decent service. I feel sorry for owners who use Sykes because I suspect they are also being poorly treated.

Then to add to the great stay we had a conducted tour of the Dairy Farm, which was also being covered for a member of the party who was not well by a virtual tour he could follow on his iPad. We had also : a tour led by the farmers young Son of his flock of chickens, extremely clear in his talk of how he started the hens off and his plans for the future to follow. The farm family are courageous in their venture forward to widen the scope from just dairy to Beef also, we met current Black and White bull who serves the dairy cows, as well as a visiting beautiful hughe tan very Beefy Bull to go forward this year . The hospitality and friendly family could not do anything more to make our stay a success. We thank them for our very comfortable stay which has never been matched to date.

It is spacious and the standard of the facilities could not have been higher. There was nothing that we could have wanted that was not provided. The cottage was absolutely spotless and extremely cosy. The welcome pack, including an amazing homemade cake, and the extra touch of a birthday balloon, made it even more special. The children loved the games room and we happily spent the evenings at the cottage rather than going out. I would recommend the farm tour, which was fascinating and really educational. I would also recommend the additional breakfast pack from the farm shop, the food was exceptionally high quality.

When we couldn't work out the oven, Michelle popped over straight away to help us out. The farm tour is an absolute must - it really opened my eyes to farming life and i have a new found respect for farmers. We even saw a calf being born at the end of the tour which made our week! The layout and bedrooms were perfect for the three generations who stayed there. Everything we could reasonably require was available, and the facilities are in excellent condition. It is a very convenient base for Matlock, Bakewell and other places to visit, with a lot of activities for young children without having far to drive. The farm shop was also really useful. The best part of the stay, though, was the tour of the farm: the children loved feeding and learning about the animals. The host family were all exceptionally helpful and we enjoyed their kindness as well as their company. We would certainly recommend this accommodation for families.

The premises were very well presented, immaculate and comfortable with ample parking. Even before we got out of the car we were welcomed and helped by a friendly face. Inside we were met with fresh eggs and milk straight from the farm. The location was such that using local walks we covered a lovely 8 Mile walk, even with an 8 year old granddaughter. The games room is well equipped, even with french boules and coloured stones to hide! One of the highlights was the guided tour of the dairy farm, showing how technical farming is nowadays and how the welfare of the animals is paramount. And not forgetting the owners son and his hen. Overall superb and ideal place to celebrate my 65th birthday with my family. Good luck to The Barn. The ‘mark down’ to 9 to the Sykes Experience is due to Sykes not returning several of our calls with enquires not in relation to the Barn itself.

Recently opened. Large comfortable space, located in the rural areas of Derbyshire, but within short driving distances of many lovely little villages. The owners were fantastic. They allowed us to move our dates, when I made an error in the booking and sorted this with Sykes. Email communication was very good. We were greeted and welcomed cheerfully, and had all our queries eg working the stove etc and request for more towels responded to immediately. There is an on-site farm shop with fresh eggs and meat. On arrival there were some easy instructions and a home made sponge cake, loaf of bread, salted butter, eggs and a jug of milk from the farm. The area was also lovely to walk around and we got a tour of the farm especially for the child accompanying us. All in all and fantastic place to stay for a lovely quiet get away with family and friends. Highly recommend.
