  • "We stayed at the Barn for New Year and it was perfect for our get together, as a group of 10 made up of two families and a set of grandparents it had everything we needed."

    The property is clean and warm with a great downstairs space to all sit together, my grandchildren loved the farm tour and returned to tell everyone all about it. The area has lots of places to visit so great for trips out. It was my first trip to the Peak District and I will definitely return and the whole family agreed we would look to stay at The Barn again. Thanks to everyone we met around the farm, we were made to feel welcome and the cake on arrival was a big hit with everyone.

  • "This was perfect for our 3 generations' family Christmas, with a warm welcome from our host Michelle (who also gave us a very interesting farm tour)."

    The barn had beautiful Christmas trimmings, is spacious, comfortably furnished and well equipped with everything needed to self cater for 11 guests. We loved the quiet countryside location and would definitely have no hesitation in recommending it!

  • "House was lovely all decorated for Christmas which we loved complete with 80s style wall hanging."

    Kitchen was kitted out well could have added one or two little things like cooking oil but very good overall, milk tea and coffee were provided and a lovely fresh cake welcomed us. Being on a farm makes it a little noisy but adds to the experience

  • "Lovely house with loads of space for a large group."

    Well equipped (except it could do with more small vegetable knives and serving spoons) and very comfortable. Slightly better lighting & signage would be helpful to help find the barn.

    Hi Deb. Thank you for your feedback it is most valuable to us. With such a large kitchen space and different draws and cupboard space the utensils can be in more than one place. Apologies if it took you a while to find The Barn, during winter the abscence of street lighting can make it dark in our rural setting. The what three words reference if used brings you straight to the door, then the sensor lights usually trigger to illuminate the parking area.     Enough room for all of us and my husband was impressed with how close all the attractions were to the property. It was useful to know the owners were close by in case they were needed. Just a short drive to Matlock, Matlock Bath, Crich, The Heights of Abraham to name but a few. We enjoyed the games room and being on a working farm.

    We had a fantastic week and appreciated the milk and cake. We have given top marks for everything but marked maintenance down one. We just felt the games room was lacking in decent darts and there was no chalk for the pool cues and not really enough space to play. The garden too needed a tidy up. The property

Nestled on a working dairy farm on the fringes of the beautiful Peak District National Park, where you have a series of pastimes such as walking and cycling to indulge, is this well-appointed barn conversion.

The Barn offers large families and groups of friends the chance to escape to the country and find a relaxing base to return to, after trying out all the outdoor activities this fascinating region has to offer.

With underfloor heating throughout the ground level and a woodburning stove adding additional warmth to the sitting room, this cosy dwelling is just what you need to unwind into your evening.

The kitchen is fully equipped with many helpful appliances to hand, as well as a breakfast island and a large dining area, elevated by the exposed ceiling beams, adding character to the space.

The ground floor is also well-appointed for those less able on their feet, with a double and single room served by the family bathroom, where you can indulge in a hot shower on return from a walk.

You can find yourself a quiet corner somewhere and enjoy a good book with a hot beverage and there is also a study/desk space upstairs on the landing, for anyone who wants to bring their laptop and get a bit of work done while they are away.

Further along the corridor is a children's play area, with a selection of games to keep them entertained for hours.

Retire to one of the well-presented bedrooms to catch your rest, then wake up to a refreshing shower each morning, with a choice of bathrooms ensuring you don't have to queue.

To the exterior of this fabulous abode are two seating areas within an enclosed garden, one accessed via the sitting room, where you can sit out with a drink and soak up a crisp afternoon.

Alternatively, spend an evening in the games room, which is housed within an external building in the garden, where you can get competitive over the table football or a round Head into Wirksworth for a selection of independent shops, local pubs and places to eat, stroll through its maze of ancient 'ginnels' or 'jitties' and find yourself at the Heritage Centre, which houses the town's museum collections.

You can also head out to Haddon Hall and Chatsworth House to step back in time and delve into a world of history, and truly make the most of this fabulous location near the Peak District.

Matlock 6 miles.

Wirksworth is a small, charming market town situated just a few miles from Matlock, on the edge of The Peak District. Wirksworth is full of character with many buildings of architectural interest, including its magnificent parish church. Independent shops sit alongside the deli, butchers and bakers with a strong local food ethic. Visitors will enjoy exploring the ancient “jitties” and courtyards of the Puzzle Gardens, along with the Heritage Centre and the delightful surrounding countryside including nearby Carsington Water, Black Rocks and the High Peak Trail. Rock climbing and cycling can be enjoyed here at every level, and there is fantastic walking all around. Well Dressing is unique to Derbyshire, and Wirksworth combines this tradition with a lively carnival in May. There is also an annual Arts festival with an amazing Art & Architecture Trail in September, showcasing contemporary art and international performers of every kind. With an art deco independent cinema and a range of places to eat there is plenty to entertain. The town offers a leisure centre with a climbing wall and a small trainer swimming pool, The Eco Centre, The National Stone Centre and the Mount Cook Adventure Centre. The weekly market and monthly farmers' market provide local produce and crafts. Beautiful Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are within easy reach, as well as Matlock Bath, with its spectacular cable car, the heritage Ecclesbourne Valley Railway and Gulliver's Kingdom. Only two miles away, the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site in Cromford is not to be missed. In all, Wirksworth is a great location for a varied holiday.
