Cottage is well equipped, super cosy and comfortable. I don’t think some of the listing photos do it justice, particularly how spacious the living area is! Would recommend to friends and family and will return if we find ourselves in the area again!

The owners couldn’t have been more helpful and having direct contact with them just prior to our visit was so helpful. Welcome items were so much appreciated and made a short break immediately feel more than just a holiday rental. The wood burner was very efficient and already set just to light up! All together, warm, cosy and welcoming. Thank you!

It was clean, comfortable and very well equipped. The facilities had been chosen with care. One imaginative touch that we relished, and have never encountered before in a holiday cottage, was the Ordnance Survey map centred on the cottage. We seldom return to a holiday cottage (preferring variety) but if we did, we would love to return.

The house was perfect. We loved the fact that there were 3 large sofas in the huge living room so that all 6 of us could spread out. Not that we were inside much as the garden and its views were wonderful- and again with plenty of seating for 6 people. The hosts were wonderful- extremely helpful and we were touched by the little details such as the homemade scones, jam and cream , the bottle of Prosecco and the flowers. We will definitely be back and have recommended it to our friends and family. This was an annual university reunion of 6 friends who met 41 years ago snd as one of our part said ‘This has been the best one in terms of accommodation’ thank you so much

Our only criticism was the lack of a washing machine, it would have been handy with teenagers! Luckily, it was fine weather when we were there. An easier solution would have been welcome. Once inside the welcome pack of Prosecco, cakes, bread, milk all very much appreciated as was the Happy birthday banner and the Fresh Flowers. Well equipped kitchen including a chair for a youngster, tea bags, coffee, washing up liquid etc. A Cheese knife and more pint glasses would help as would a washing machine, particularly if staying for a week. Very comfortable lounge with a large log burner. Great supply of games and DVD’s as well as a large TV. The downstairs bedroom would benefit from a wardrobe, it’s designed for two adults but nowhere to hang clothes. Maybe a wardrobe in place of the bookshelf. A working radiator would have been nice, the electric heater was ok but not very effective. The upstairs bedrooms were very nice with comfortable beds, great views and the main bedroom had a fantastic walk in wardrobe. The main bathroom was very well equipped with a great shower although one of the light bulbs in the shower cubicle was not working. Lovely views and there appeared to be a great garden area but not for us in November! Met the owner on arrival and was very welcoming. Good location for accessing Peak District attractions and walks and nice pub in the village. Overall, a convenient, well equipped, warm, cottage ideal for a short break and family celebration.

About the location

Carsington Water 2.5 mile; Ashbourne 5 miles.

Steeped in history and situated at the southern end of the Peak District lies the lovely village of Hulland Ward, which, nine centuries ago, was the Royal Duffield Forest of Frith. Hulland Ward is made up from a number of smaller hamlets including Hulland Moss, Hulland Upper, Nether Biggin and Hulland Village and is comprised of a scattering of traditional brick-built cottages, old farmhouses and barn conversions, surrounded by beautiful rolling countryside and offering a number of country pubs renowned locally for excellent service and fine cuisine. Nearby Ashbourne is the perfect example of an English market town, boasting an eccentric street plan, narrow, cobbled alleys, old market stalls and many fine coaching inns. The town offers a good selection of restaurants, whilst being regarded as something of a haven for antique hunters. For those who prefer outdoor pursuits, Carsington Water is one of the country's premier watersports centres, offering excellent sailing and a host of other activities including walking, bird watching, cycling and bridleways, whilst Alton Towers is just 25 minutes away!
