  • "Great welcome!"

Absolutely considerate people. Thank you so much. Amazing welcome and always just a message away. Thank you again.

  • "A beautifully presented, clean and very comfortable holiday cottage."

Very well equipped - good range of kitchen cooking equipment and appliances, supplies of pet towels, bowls and treats if required and a comfortable, spacious lounge with logs for the fire. The decked terrace off the lounge is a lovely place to sit if you get some sunshine. Bedrooms are both well presented with lovely bed linen, fluffy towels and stunning views across the valley. Would highly recommended a stay in Sycamore Cottage.

  • "Very comfortable cottage in a great position with a lovely view."

The owner was very helpful and easy to communicate with and had thought of everything you might need when you are away. The cottage had good saucepans and cooking equipment (unlike a lot of places we have stayed!) so we were able to cook our own meals.

  • "Another lovely week."

Miny, the owner was lovely. She left a very generous starter pack of treats. Property so lovely and comfortable. Been twice this year and looking forward to coming back hopefully next year. We have stayed in a number of self catering properties and this is definitely one of the nicest we have stayed in as far as comfort and cleanliness.

  • "Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sycamore Cottage."

The extra touches were very welcome as was the welcome pack which was the best we have ever had. We could always get parked outside the cottage. You need to wave your hand at the light outside and it will come on for the steps, which were no problem with good rails. The steps are steep inside but also have good rails. Beds are very comfy. The view is magnificent, better than in the photos, if you get the weather. Contact with Miny was v. good, before and after visit. Would definitely recommend.

The house had everything we needed and more and the welcome package was very thoughtful . The house is clean and the view’s amazing. The kitchen is well equipped and I feel everything has been thought of. Parking was ok and majority of the time we got parked right outside the property. We did walk down to the shop and chip shop but it is about 20 min away and longer coming back because it’s quite a steep climb (we are from the fens so not much in the way of hills here

  • "We’ve had such a lovely break in this wonderful cottage."

It has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The views from the cottage are outstanding whilst enjoying a glass of wine on an evening. The beds are so comfortable I haven’t slept as well in ages. The enclosed garden was perfect for our dog but please bear in mind there are some additional steps down to the garden but these shouldn’t bother you. The additional complimentary items and gifts were so welcome & what a lovely thought & jesture from the owner Miny. All in all we’ve had a fabulous stay at Sycamore cottage & wouldn’t hesitate to go back. Ideal for visiting Bakewell, Matlock, Dove dale stepping stones the list is endless. You won’t be disappointed

  • "Lovely comfortable house, the owner has thought of everything for visitors comfort."

From an amazing welcome pack for both people and dog to supplying over and above for visitors needs in the house. It was clean and tidy, they have a very comprehensive booklet with full info on how to use the house gadgets and great local walks. I found the neighbours friendly and helpful too. I'd definitely recommend a visit here.

  • "Comfortable well-equipped cottage in a quiet hillside location with stunning views."

The balcony provides a great place to relax in the sun. Living in a bungalow it took a while to adjust to the steep stairs. Great location for Bakewell, Haddon Hall, Chatsworth, Lea Gardens for colourful rhododenrons, Eyam for history of the Bubonic plague. We found plenty to do and see in this area and enyoyed our stay in this delightful cottage.

  • "Really lovely place."

The views from all the rooms are beautiful. It was lovely no matter where we were we had a beautiful view to look at. It was also really comfortable and warm. The owner, Miny is really welcoming, I got a text as soon as I booked stating that if I had any special requirements to let her know. Never had that before and thought it a nice touch. She was also very accommodating when we could not leave at scheduled time due to snow. You know you are in a good place when half way through the holiday you are looking to see when you can come again. Highly recommend. Only extra advisory I would give are stairs inside are very steep and I wondered if it would be a problem with my long covid but slow and steady and I was fine.

It was really nice to have such a high level of kitchen equipment and basic ingredients present. We usually have a box with us of sharp knives etc and didn't need any of these things. Unfortunately couldn't find blue box for cans and glass recycling.

  • "Sycamore Cottage is one of the nicest dog friendly cottages we have stayed in."

It was cosy but spacious, with the added luxury of the balcony terrace off the lounge. The attention to detail in the cottage by the owners, was much appreciated, especially the welcome pack! The enclosed garden was perfect for our Cocker Spaniel, he loved it, with walks from the door too. The icing on the cake though were the stunning views from all the rooms in the cottage. We have fallen in love with Sycamore Cottage and will definitely be back for a return visit. Thank you Miny and David, my son and I have had a wonderful week end.

  • "We’ve had a wonderful stay at Sycamore Cottage."

We’ve never had a stay where there has been so much thought and kindness put in with all the extras. The care package (including fridge goodies) fans for the heat, tissues, kitchen equipment and extras like tin foil, wipes and coffee for their machine and little things you might have forgotten like toothbrushes etc we’re fantastic. The view from the property is amazing and like others have said you want to just stay there enjoying it and the amazing comfy beds but there is so much much to see and do (Matlock, Matlock Bath, Chatsworth, Heights of Abraham, Gulliver’s Kingdom, Hardwick National Trust …. I could go on!) but it was so lovely to head back to Sycamore Cottage after a day out and enjoy the stunning view or gorgeous fire on the odd day we had rain. Thank you again for a lovely stay!

The property

Settled amongst the rural greenery of Hackney, on the fringes of the Peak District National Park, between Matlock and Darley Dale, rests this charming two-bedroom holiday home, Sycamore Cottage.

Idyllically positioned for a group of four seeking a rural retreat, Sycamore Cottage enjoys easy access to a wealth of must-see sights and attractions, including the opulent stately home, Chatsworth House, Lumbsdale and the popular market town of Bakewell.

Descend the stone steps that greet you upon arrival, leading you over the threshold and into the handy hallway of your new home-from-home, where you can store your belongings with ease away from the main living areas.

Make yourself at home with a sumptuous spot in the sitting room, where you can flick on the TV and cosy up in front of the fire as your favourite show plays, before making your way through to the well-equipped kitchen to rustle up a hearty meal for four.

Put your muddy walking gear on a spin and carry the conversation outdoors, where you can soak in the last of the evening sunshine in the garden, backed by far-reaching views across the distant countryside.

When day draws to night, retreat indoors and climb the stairs to the first floor, where you'll be spoilt for choice between two delightfully-presented bedrooms, a king-size and a twin, each sharing access to the stylish bathroom set across the landing.

Take advantage of your position between Darley Dale and Matlock, where you'll find a wealth of local amenities on your doorstep; unwind following a day of adventure with a crisp pint in the beer garden at The Church Inn in Darley Dale, or treat your loved ones to an indulgent spot of afternoon tea at East Lodge in Rowsley. Albeit rural, there's plenty to see and do nearby, including Matlock Bath, Cromford Mills and the family-friendly theme park, Gulliver's Kingdom.

For those looking for a more exhilarating experience, Alton Towers is not far away.

Those looking for outdoor pursuits can venture into the heart of the Peak District National Park, where walkers and climbers alike will delight at the seemingly-endless network of trails available, including Jacobs Ladder and the hike to the summit of Kinder Scout.

With so much to see and do, Sycamore Cottage makes an excellent choice for a group of four seeking a retreat to Derbyshire.
