  • "Place was lovely."

Lovely surroundings. Plenty space . Host was helpful. Beds were comfortable. Only negativity was the road down to the cottage. I’d definitely go back if the road gets repaired

  • "Overall, this was the perfect place for a weekend getaway - easy to find, comfortable beds and enough space for everyone."

Just a few things that could be improved: the recent rain has badly damaged the road to the property (washed away in places) and so it was very difficult to manoeuvre cars in and out without scraping them on the brick revealed. The main living spaces and a few bedrooms had thick cobwebs in corners and floors weren’t the cleanest. We also had 11 adults staying and there were not enough bowls or wine glasses to cater to everyone. We would definitely be back, just a couple of things that could be improved to make the experience even better.

  • "The cottage is situated in a lovely location."

The cottage itself is lovely but we all felt it needed some TLC and refresh in paint work as it looked very grubby. There was crayon marks all over one of the walls. The shower room floor and corners hadn't been cleaned. The heated towel rails were covered in dust as they hadn't been cleaned. There had been no upper cleaning done. The toaster didn't work, the extractor fan in the shower room didn't work. The over temperature dial didn't work. When we got there, there was children's toys left all over. We moved the settees and the was dried food, dirt and dust under all of them, they had not been cleaned. A lot of the plates ect were chipped or cracked. If this was sorted I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Hi I'm sorry you felt this about our house. In response to your points though I can advice the following. The house was painted at the beginning of the season. You can tell this as the paintwork is still brilliant white. There are scruffs, especially on the stairway. The house is extremely popular and very family friendly and scruffs do happen. Regarding the crayon. We papered the hall at the beginning of the year in a lovely designer pattern but someone (assume children) have marked the walls with crayons. This is outwith our control. In fact after this guest left there were crayon marks on the outside rendered walls of the house. This took hours to scrub off!! Maybe we should ban crayons!! However we do understand that children are relaxing also and sometimes things happen. I checked and the extractor fan is working fine in the bathrooms? They are linked to the lights and only work when the lights are on. It's such a bright house that you don't always needs lights on to see, Maybe I can move these onto motion sensors for next season... We have loads of toys all over the house as we cater for boys and girls of all ages. That is intentional, there are lots of childrens books also to try to keep children entertained. Randomly some go missing so some must have been enjoyed! I was really concerned about your comments regarding the sofas. In fact we conducted a deep clean right after your review and sorted this. As the sofas are very large and recliners they are extremely heavy. I don't endorse guests or our cleaners to move these except during deep cleans as I would not like anyone to injure themselves. However we have added this to our weekly check and it's on our monthly deep clean. Glasses and plates etc, are always an issue in all our houses and hotels. We are constantly replacing these. Unfortunately accidents happen. We have replaced crockery again at West Cottage. We hope you will come again. If we have time during the winter we are planning to get the outside building completed and that will offer a steam room, second indoor jacuzzi, small gym and pool table. West Cottage is such a relaxing place, it's nice to have people enjoy it as much as we have in the 20+ years we have owned it! Regards Phil and Marta Property Owner

  • "Absolutely perfect."

Great location, everything as described. Beds were really comfortable. Kitchen well equipped, plenty of space to accommodate 9 people. Outside decked area was beautiful for sitting out and the garden was really spacious and well maintained. Hot tub was great. the only comment regarding improvement i would give is that the railing around the decking wasn't very secure. The corner near the steps kept popping out. I would however say it wouldn't put me off returning. Our party all had a fabulous time and look forward to coming again. I would highly recommend this property.

  • "Cleanliness was okay however there was left over Indian takeaway left in the microwave."

The cottage was said to have WiFi but there didn't seem to be any router at all in the property. None of our phones picked up a WiFi signal and there was no router behind the TV where it should have been. Some wall sockets weren't working properly. Other than that it was a great stay.

  • "Beautiful views, highlight of the holiday was watching many lambs been born in the field opposite the cottage."

Beds clean and comfortable. Although cottage was clean it needs some TLC. As previous reviews stated, garden is definitely not enclosed. We had 2 dogs and a 2 year old child. Dogs has to be on a lead at all times especially as it was lambing season. A gate with lock on the decking would be ideal as my 2 year old would often run down the steps on to the access road to cottage and cottage next door which had vans delivering most days we were there. Large hedge encloses 3 sides of the cottage but dogs can get under it, front has a very small wall that dogs and children can easily jump over, no gates at all. Lovely summer house which was full of junk, could easily and cheaply be done out so holiday makers could use. Hot tub nice touch but in a strange position, not private and open to the elements, the wind been the biggest pain. Unfortunately had a couple of storms while we stayed so didn’t get full use of hot tub, if moved into summer house could be used in all weathers and still be able to see sheep in field. Would stay here again but wouldn’t bring dogs, and would take safety gate for decked area.

  • "The property had everything you would need for a lovely break in the country."

We didn't see a soul apart from the sheep and their lambs in the neighbouring field. Our only criticism is that the description said it was an enclosed garden and it wasn't. When you have two dogs that keep their noses to the ground, this was a huge issue... and given we were in the country there were plenty of exciting smells to keep them interested. The enclosed garden was one of the major factors for selecting this property and the lack of this did cause us some problems. With a field of sheep and lambs right beside us, we couldn't afford to take any chances. Not that our dogs would have caused any injury to the sheep, but the farmer wouldn't have known this.

House was clean and warm on arrival. There was a welcome pack for us in the kitchen , a nice touch. I am very fussy about my bed and the bed we slept in was very comfortable, I think I slept better there than at home. Kitchen was very well equiped. The only thing I might have needed was a second frying pan. The weather was soo bad all week we really didnt use the garden. Some garden furniture would be nice for the summer. The house is down a farm lane and they were busy most of the week, so tractors coming and going at a slow speed. We got a wave from them as they passed. I read the a previous report and find it difficult to believe it was the same house. Yes there were a few flies about but there is at home just now and as I previous said its in the middle of farm land. I was concerned about the previous post so I called the owner and he assured me. Hand sanitizer was sitting in the kitchen for our use although I had brought my own and cleaning products. Plenty of the above there already. I left a note with a couple of suggestions as we rent regularly and know what we like. When I called about the previous post I asked why he had not replied to it. He said it was not easy to do, this seems a bit unfair.

  • "The owner was really accommodating, very nice to speak to and very helpful."

Unfortunately the house was full of flies no matter how hard we tried to get rid of them, I understand living on a farm it can't always be helped but this was major amount of flies. Our dog kept barking and drawing our attention to the storage in the kitchen, later finding out we had rat droppings in our food and snacks and boxes we had kept in there, also our bags had been chewed and ripped apart. Also at night all you could hear was scratching on the floors. It was a beautiful house in a fantastic location, stunning house and bedrooms, stunning views from the dining conservatory. And fabulous location. but very dirty and not clean as you would like when paying such amounts for a stay, they definitely don't use a professional cleaning company. Overall we would return if there was a change in the way it was cleaned. Thank you for such a lovely stay overall xx

  • "It's a cottage advertised for large group yet only 12 each knives, forks and spoons, two sharp knives no cooking utensils to speak of, few pots pans or ovenware and two small dining tables in different rooms, also not enough bowls for one per person."

Not at all well equipped. Uncomfortable beds and kitchen and equipment didn't feel particularly clean. No instructions left re heat pump or WiFi code. Property was overpriced for standard of let.

Thank you for your feedback, The property sleeps 11 and enough cutlery is provided to cover this number of guests. Please be assured the beds are brand new and have orthopaedic memory foam mattresses, beds are subjective I'm sorry these were not to your taste. The dining tables are clear from the pictures of the property again I'm sorry this does not meet your particular requirements. The wifi code is on the back of the router. Property Owner
