  • "This accommodation was beautiful."

From the moment we stepped in it felt like home. Spotlessly clean and the equipment was excellent Good communication with the owners too. Nothing negative about it whatsoever. We will definitely be paying another visit. Very close to the town centre and good access to the surrounding areas. Absolutely loved it.

We are so glad you enjoyed your stay at the Coach House and thank you for such a positive review. In response to your private feedback we now have a nice big teapot and a milk jug in the kitchen and a clock on the wall in the living room. You are so welcome to return! Property Owner

  • "The Coach House on arrival was immaculate, clean, tidy and well equipped."

We had been concerned about an earlier review about immediate noisy neighbours, this proved to be unfounded, the location is extremely quiet and the neighbours were very pleasant on the few occasions we met them. We needed to contact the owners to inform them of a minor problem and they were immediately attentive and reassuringly helpful. The house is very comfortable and well situated, in that it is a short walk to the centre of town which we found very agreeable, interesting independent shops and cafes, very friendly inhabitants. Lovely local walks, a booklet for which can be purchased in town and would be a useful addition for the house guests. We kept ours as we hope to return one day.

Many thanks for your feedback Richard. We are keen to continue improving guests' experience and will purchase a copy of the book you mentioned. The Sykes app tells me your review has not yet been published - we look forward to seeing it on the website and hope to welcome you again in the future! Chris and Belinda. Property Owner

Hi Mike. Thank you very much for your positive review. At the moment you have chosen not to publish it and therefore it doesn't count towards our overall feedback score. Please click 'Publish' if you feel you can help us out with that . You felt that the facilities were not quite 100%. Any suggestions as to how we can improve? • "We had s lovely week in this house."

It was extremely quiet. It was very spacious and clean except there was a very nasty smell in the downstairs bathroom that we couldn't get rid of. We wondered whether it was coming from the shower cubicle drain and put some domestos down it but it still smelt. Other than that we had a good stay.

Update: we traced the unpleasant smell. The plumber had not correctly connected the shower waste pipe to the main drain. Simple fix and the smell has now been eliminated! Many thanks for your review Bryan. I will investigate immediately and eliminate the problem! Chris Property Owner

  • "Property was very clean and tidy."

Good base for travelling. Enclosed garden for dog. Missing items that would be good addition, hairdryer and bowl for dogs feet. Unfortunately the fridge was not turned on and found switch at back. Great size to hold everything. Oven and hob kept beeping in use but worked out, that if you move the clock 1 second on, it’s great. The shower upstairs was too powerful, thus water flies over the floor. I’m only 5 foot and I lowered the hose and pointed it towards the tiles, (fixed) overall we had a pleasant stay. The neighbours were very quiet.

Update: There is now a hairdryer in both bedrooms. Hi Evelyn. Thank you so much for your feedback. We're glad to see that you feel the cleanliness of the house and the accuracy of the listing merit a 100% rating. We always take note of our guests' feedback and have the following responses to yours: We will ensure that there is a hairdryer in the house soon - there was one and we can't think what has happened to it. The fridge should obviously not have been turned off and we will ask the cleaners to check that it is left on in future. You are not the first person to have mentioned that the shower is quite powerful! We have just fitted a shower curtain as a backup to the existing screen. The cooker was beeping because someone changed the timer settings. The cooker manual is in the red folder which is generally left on the Breakfast Bar. This contains the manuals for various appliances and notes on the house and general area which we hope guests will find useful. I have now restored the proper settings. We are happy to allow guests to bring one or two well-behaved dogs to the Coach House but they do give us some problems. Previous guests have wiped their dogs' muddy paws on the lovely white towels and we have had to replace some because of this. We employ a professional cleaning company to clean the house and do the laundry. They are not able to offer additional services to cope with dogs - beyond what might be considered 'normal' cleaning. We will therefore be asking dog owners in future to bring with them not only their dog's bed, food and bowls but also their own towels for dogs' muddy feet and perhaps a bowl in which to wash them. This must, of course, be done outside in the garden - not in the house (and definitely not in the shower). One previous guest mentioned that the neighbours had been noisy. This seems to have been a one-off event and subsequent guests have not experienced this issue. Thanks again for your feedback. Chris and Belinda Property Owner

  • "Great location for local family and to use this as an additional accommodation."

No issues that are down to the owners but probably with builders - like the shower door on bath is too short and I felt bad with water spilling over - had to put a towel down to be sure that water didn't damage anything...at 6ft 3 water tends to splash a lot off me! I did read that a smart TV had been installed with a 55 smart tv - before we arrived on another review but it wasnt there and had to go out and get a cable to run from my laptop to make it smart.....the sound was awful though...so a new TV would help justify the rental cost. The place was spotless....lovely and big....some softer pillows would be a bonus. Shame about walking through neighbours garden...bad design by the developer.... A couple more place settings would be a great addition as we had people over and not enough plates, but an abundance of cutlery. It was hot weather when there and the windows need tightening up because we had to prop them open as they kept closing which didnt help. A good accommodation - not sure the pricing isnt too high for the quality but as I said very clean, good location, very quiet and spacious. We would rent it again.

Update: The windows have all been checked and adjusted. They now operate perfectly! Hi Christian. Thank you so much for your feedback! I'm afraid you missed the new TV by a few days. It was installed immediately after your stay and has been well received by the current guests. I'm grateful for your comment about the window maintenance - I will make sure that is carried out as soon as possible. Thanks for trying to prevent water damage from the upstairs shower screen I will see what can be done about it. I thought there were eight place settings - I will check on my next visit. There are supposed to be two firm and two soft pillows on each double bed - perhaps they have got mixed up! I will check. I'm glad you would like to return. You would be most welcome (and you'll benefit from the continuous improvements we will be making at The Coach House)! Chris and Belinda Property Owner

  • "TV not as described."

Not a large smart tv, just a small analogue tv with free view channels. Otherwise very clean and comfortable and well equiped. Quirky entrance thru next doors garden, as described. Many thanks for a great break.

Update: TV now replaced with a new 55" 4k with hi-tec smart features! Hi Aubyn. Thanks for giving The Coach House 100% positive feedback for Comfort and Cleanliness. The larger TV in the photos was old and needed to be replaced. This will take place soon. We're glad you enjoyed your stay and hope you will return sometime! Chris and Belinda Property Owner

  • "Lovely inside and well equipped although the TV was smaller than in the picture."

Your only view from the house is a very tall large building that wasn’t included in the pictures. To enter house you have to go through a side gate into the next doors garden then walk past their front door through another small gate into the Coach House. We was told in the instructions from the owner of the Coach house to be quiet when walking past the next doors neighbours property but we should have ask them to be quiet because they had a few shouting swearing arguments and getting home 2-3am Slamming their vans door, then the gate and then their front door. So regarding the problems we have explained above we would not return.

Update: TV now replaced with a new 55" 4k with hi-tec smart features! Hi Daniel. Many thanks for your feedback and for giving The Coach House such a high rating for Comfort and Cleanliness. To address the issues you had: the TV in the photo was larger than the one in place during your stay but was old and needed replacing. The smaller TV is temporary and works well but has been there longer than we would have liked and will be switched over soon. The tall building you mentioned is the Grade II listed St. John's Priory. I have now included it in the photos. I can only apologise for the disturbance from the neighbours that you experienced. This has not been mentioned by subsequent guests so I am hoping that they have resolved their differences. Please consider returning - we'd love to host you again! Chris and Belinda Property Owner

The property

Welcome to The Coach House, 23 Priorygate Court, Castle Cary, Somerset.

You enter the house into a hallway, to your left is the large combined living space - containing the well-equipped kitchen, dining table, TV, and the comfortable sofas of the sitting area.

At the end of the hallway is a newly upgraded, contemporary W/C shower room with a walk-in shower.

Upstairs, there are two good-sized bedrooms and a contemporary bathroom and W/C with bath and shower over.

The bedrooms each have a comfortable double bed and a single bed - for children's use only.

At the top of the stairs is the ‘reading nook’ – a comfortable sofa and cushions with good natural light from the skylight above and a small selection of books to get you started.

Priorygate Court is notable for the unique homes which echo the architecture of the imposing former Priory, around which the community is centred.

You will notice the peace and quiet of your surroundings due to the absence of passing traffic - although the birdsong is worth listening to!

In the sunny courtyard, you will find some very comfortable garden furniture and a table.

There are so many reasons to visit the gorgeous South Somerset town of Castle Cary!

The local building material, Hadspen (Cary) Stone, is a beautiful honey-coloured sandstone which gives the town a rich, warm and friendly feeling.

The local people are very friendly and welcoming.

The high street has the best of everything - great cafes, bakeries, independent shops, art dealers, vintage and antique shops, deli, seafood restaurant and cosy pubs with warming log fires burning in the winter!

If your stay includes a Tuesday, then it is well worth visiting the food market, which is located outside the historic and beautiful Market House (housing the town museum) - opposite The George pub (where the food is very good) in the centre of town.

Castle Cary is a fabulous base for getting to the other towns and attractions of the area.

There’s the magical, mystical town of Glastonbury with its Abbey ruins, the Tor (Isle of Avalon) and the world-famous music festival at nearby Pilton.

During the Glastonbury Festival, if you're not into camping in a field with thousands of other people, you can walk from The Coach House to catch the shuttle bus that runs to and from Castle Cary train station and the festival site at Pilton.

Trains from the station connect the town directly to Bristol and London.

The 'Newt in Somerset' is a short drive away and offers Spa, restaurant and shopping opportunities as well as beautiful gardens and a Roman villa to explore.

There are several wonderful National Trust properties in the area, including the renowned 18th-century Palladian house, landscaped gardens and lake at Stourhead - where a walk, at any time of the year, is a must!

Bruton, another town to visit, is only ten minutes’ drive away and offers plenty of opportunities for fine dining and gallery visits - Hauser and Wirth Gallery has frequently changing exhibitions and a wonderful Italian restaurant called Da Costa, serving food with a distinctly Northern Italian flavour!

A quick run-through of other nearby places to visit: The Haynes Motor Museum.

The Fleet Air Arm Museum.

The Royal Bath and West Showground has regular Flea Markets and Vintage/Antique Fairs as well as annual trade and public shows - including Agriculture, cars, motorcycles, food and many, many more!

Frome, Wincanton, Sherborne, Bath, Wells, and Bristol are all within a fairly short drive too.

Come nightfall, retreat to the comfort of The Coach House, the perfect base for your Somerset adventure.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £250.

CASTLE CARY

Bruton 6 miles; Glastonbury 14 miles; Wells 14 miles.

Castle Cary is a small, attractive country town 12 miles north east of Yeovil and 24 miles south of Bath. It lies on the edge of rolling countryside between the Somerset Levels to the West and the ridgeline of Penselwood to the east, halfway between the Mendip Hills and the Blackmore Vale. The main Paddington to Penzance railway line runs about a mile to the north. The old part of Castle Cary, which is still the town centre and contains buildings like the Market House, the Round House and the old George Inn, runs along the foot of steep, grassy Lodge Hill, below where the castle used to stand. The town is the main centre for a large area of South Somerset, with a wide range of shops and services, and free parking.
