ABERTILLERY

Newbridge 5.9 miles; Pontypool 10 miles; Cardiff 24.6 miles.

The small but beautiful town of Abertillery sits within the valleys of South Wales, at the junction of the Tierry and Ebbq rivers. This forming mining town with its industrial landscape and sloping streets is set against the scenic backdrop of the Black Mountains, with the wonderful Brecon Beacons National Park just a few miles north. Today, it is a lively market town serving the surrounding farmland, and also an industrial centre now involved in brewing and tin plate production. The Abertillery and District museum offers an insight into the history and heritage in the area, holding a fascinating collection of local archive material including oral history, photographs, written material and objects. Elsewhere in the town, visitors can expect to find a range of pubs, restaurants and takeaways, along with quirky shops and supermarkets for picking up any essentials.
