  • "We had a lovely stay at Violet Cottage."

    It’s a beautiful, quirky cottage with lots of character, and it had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. A couple of things are worth noting for future guests. Both bedrooms have Velux windows without blinds or curtains, which meant the rooms became very bright very early, we were awake around 4am on the first night and ended up buying eye masks during our stay. Additionally, as mentioned in the listing, the stairs are very steep, we underestimated quite how steep they would be in practice. The outside area could do with some improvements. We heard something scurrying around and there was a dirty toilet syphon left by the door. Overall, we enjoyed the cottage and appreciated its charm.

With regards to your comments : Unfortunately the Velux windows do not have integral blinds so the morning sun does enter bedrooms as does the evening stars & moonlight which a lot of guests enjoy.... We are looking into how to attach working blinds to steep sloping ceiling in the future ~ As per listing stairs are indeed steep & second bedroom is accessed through main bedroom & this should be taken into account when booking a stay at Violet cottage.... Unfortunately the toilet broke during the previous guests stay so plumber made temporary repair for their stay & then changed faulty syphon before your arrival on same day as they left & we did not realise he had left syphon at property & apologise if this caused any inconvenience ~ There are indeed lots of wildlife who live in rockface/shrubs around the back of cottage & they can be heard going about their business on a daily basis which we feel adds to the charm of the cottage but again should be taken in to account when booking a stay at Violet cottage....   • "We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful cosy and quirky cottage in this peaceful Welsh village."

    Great for exploring the surrounding area and the train station is literally across the road which we made good use of for days out. The cottage was very clean and had everything we needed for a great stay. Friendly hosts who made themselves available if needed. Would definitely recommend and stay again. Roy

  • "Very scenic location, with walks from the door."

    The house is cosy with many interesting and quirky touches. Appreciated the welcome pack of milk, bread, cheese, and Welsh cakes. Some helpful local information, walks and an OS Landranger map of the area are provided. The toilet/shower room is downstairs, the bedrooms are upstairs. The stairs are very steep, and need to be taken carefully. As described in the listing, the smaller bedroom is accessed through the larger bedroom. We enjoyed our stay, thank you.

  • "This is a characterful cottage on which a lot of thought and effort has been expended, including decoration and decor."

    There are a few quirks in the layout (eg. the walk from the kitchen, past the bathroom, to the fridge) but these are all part of the fun. Comfortable and in lovely setting - friendly neighbours - highly recommended !

  • "Cobwebs everywhere, hair in shower, no cleaning supplies apart from spray that had lumps in it."

    Dirty mugs and dishes. Stains on bedding. A mouse staying in the home also. Apart from these issues, the cottage is a lovely peaceful home and left lovely bits and pieces which me and my dog loved. A safe and nice area

With regard to your review & comments submitted 3 months after your stay, we are somewhat disappointed as the Cottage was clean/tidy & had plenty of new cleaning products left in Pantry prior to your stay we also put Christmas decorations up to make the cottage more festive.... We also dealt with all issues brought up during your stay & received an appreciative email from yourself on the day of your departure so are understandably saddened by your belated review.   • "I came to Wales to visit a friend who had moved here this year."

    The cottage is very charming and quirky, filled with lots of arts and crafts. I was given a welcome pack of bread, Welsh cakes, milk and cheese . Which was great as I had travelled for 6 hrs and although I had brought some groceries with me I didn't have to worry about finding a shop. The cottage is well positioned for days out and I visited Hay-on- Wye an easy 27 mile drive and the Elan Valley just around 10 miles away is spectacular. The stairs in the property are windy and steep so something to consider if you have dodgy knees or need the loo often during the night. I would deft come again. Thanks

  • "The cottage is wonderful!"

    Charming, spotless and very well equipped, with loads of magical little touches that made us feel right at home. There's plenty of space for two people and a dog, and it's perfectly located for exploring mid Wales. The Lake Country House Hotel was a nice little find for an afternoon drink, just a few minutes walk down the river, and a little further afield (45 mins in the car) is the Elan Valley, which is a stunning place for a hike. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend.

  • "If you are looking for quaint, neat and tidy, then Violet Cottage is it."

    It is a lovely old fashioned cottage that is well maintained by the owners Shaun & Amanda. They are perfect hosts just on the end of the phone. They left a welcome pack for us and our little dog and regularly checked if everything was OK. The cottage was just as described, right down to low doorways, which all well signposted. I would love to go in winter in the future to make use of the log fire. Well worth 5 stars.

  • "We had a fabulous few days at Violet Cottage."

    A great deal of care and effort has gone in to creating a cosy, cottage atmosphere. Little additional extras by the owners were a very pleasant surprise. As mentioned in the listing, the stairs are quite steep and may not be suitable for everyone. The neighbours were very friendly and happy to chat and there is a lovely walk along the riverside, accessed from just over the road bridge in the village. All in all, it was a great holiday property just to decompress, tucked away from hustle and bustle. Would highly recommend.

The small, scattered village of Beulah sits in beautiful Welsh countryside, resting alongside the River Cammarch, within easy driving distance to Builth Wells. The small community is served by a service station with a shop, along with a good pub serving food. There are plenty of picturesque walks and cycling routes available, and the Brecon Beacons National Park and the Black Mountains are within easy driving distance as well as the incredibly scenic Elan and Wye Valleys. A popular attraction is the red kite feeding station at Rhayader, just under half an hour’s drive away, which has greatly improved the number of these beautiful birds, which can be regularly seen winging on high overhead. All year round you can enjoy the various fairs and events at nearby Builth Wells, Llanwrtyd Wells and Brecon including the Royal Welsh show, Bogsnorkelling World Championships, Brecon Jazz festival, antiques, craft and food fairs.
