  • "We had a wonderful stay at the cottage; it is cosy but very comfortable had everything we needed for a relaxing break."

The local area is beautiful and we took several walks along the towpath (in both directions!). We also enjoyed the local pubs, particularly the Towpath Inn. Communication was great with the cottage owners and everything went very smoothly for arrival/checking out.

  • "Second stay for us at ‘The Old Stable’ For a little place it packs all you need."

The location is great for easy access to the Beacons and lovely walks along the canal. Being 6ft tall I had to keep minding my head, the bed is a standard double and the sofa is only a double. I can easily live with the lack of headroom, but there is room for a larger sofa and bigger bed. All in all a great stay.

The only down side to the cottage for me was the oven tins could of been cleaner, everything else was fine .

Close to 2 very nice dog-friendly pubs and canal - so ideal for walking the dog. A small cottage but very intelligently laid out so there was space for everything you need for a week away. I'd definitely recommend for a couple with a dog for a break.

Perfect for me and my dog when staying for the Crickhowell walking festival. The canal is right behind the cottage and enjoyed some lovely walks meeting lots of people and dogs. The pub was friendly next door, pizza on a Friday delicious. Fish n chip shop great also. I even went Welsh dancing in the village hall. A great location.

  • "This was our third stay at the Old Stable - and we can't wait to go back!"

It's in a perfect spot, surrounded by beautiful scenery and just a few steps from the canal.. The village has two general stores, a butcher's, a chemist's,, everything we needed. We used the local bus service for our travels - Abergavenny is a must and easy to get to, we also visited Cardiff and Brecon. The cottage is perfect for two people - we wish we owned it so we could stay there permanently!

We found it very comfortable, fiited with quality equipment and with the added bonus of great wifi, bluetooth sound system, freeview plus a good selection of DVD's/ books. Also appreciated the nice touch of the welcome basket on arrival. Gilwern is a friendly small town, perfect for exploring Brecon Beacons national park. Also close to Abergavenny, Brecon and Crickhowell which are all well worth a visit.

  • "The Old Stable is in a great location for exploring the Brecon Beacons and border area."

Would like to have had parking closer to the accommodation, but we were well aware that this would not be the case. People should be aware that this would definitely not be a good choice for anyone with any amount of mobility issues, due to the stairway in the unit. But we really enjoyed our short stay and would be happy to return next time we are in that area of Wales. :)

Some nice walks on the canal good food at the Beaufort arms very friendly landlord called keith. Lovely garden centre only 3mile away the only down side was the road works massive construction not many signs we seemed to go several miles to achieve one or two. Abergaveny is a great shopping town trago mills is worth a visit (if you can find it) due to road works.

00am and 6.00pm it is restricted to 1 hour only, and you cannot return for 2 hours, there is a Free Car Park in the village, which is a few minutes (depending on ability) from the cottage. In fairness the Owner Mr Jones emailed us with this information, but the info you sent out needs refreshing

Bit smaller than I was expecting but it's lovely. Storage is well thought out. I felt very comfy and at home. Just a pity I had to go to work every day. Lovely location. I would suggest a curtain over the front door to make it more cosy. But both me and my dog were happy. So thank you. Would go back.

Good local walks. Cottage small but cosy and well set out. Parking a short walk a few minutes away but did not cause us a problem in October half term. Only negatives sofa rather uncomfortable and quilt too small for bed.

Closest 2 pubs had closed down. It was listed as small but we didn't realise it would be this small so felt a bit claustrophobic. The bed was very uncomfortable. It's a dog friendly place but our dog struggled with the slippy wooden spiral stairs. On a positive a welcome basket of goodies was great. The way they had maximised the use of space and have all you need was good. Parking was not a problem.
