The property

Ynys is a beautifully converted former dairy barn set within rolling pastureland alongside the River Monnow on the England-Wales border, with unmatched views towards Sugar Loaf Mountain in the west and towards Hereford in the east.

Located 7 miles from the Welsh market town of Abergavenny on the edge of the incredible Bannau Brycheiniog National Park.

The cottage is thoughtfully designed to resemble a wildlife hide, making it an ideal base for birdwatchers and nature lovers.

Sleeping four guests across two flexible bedrooms, this characterful retreat enjoys far-reaching countryside views, abundant wildlife, and a distinctive off grid feel, allowing guests to be immersed in nature.

Inside, the single-storey accommodation centres around a bright and spacious open-plan living area, where large windows frame 270° views northward across meadows towards the tree-lined Monnow River, southward towards deciduous woodland above the farm and eastward towards the rising sun.

Originally built by the owner's grandfather in 1924, the former dairy has been thoughtfully transformed into a welcoming holiday home that retains a strong connection to its rural surroundings.

The two generous bedrooms can be arranged as either four singles or two plush king-size beds, offering flexibility for families, couples, or friends travelling together.

Outside, guests can make the most of the property's private lawn and terrace, ideal for al fresco dining, leisurely picnics, or simply admiring the uninterrupted views.

Nature lovers may spot kingfishers, red kites, and cranes, while the area's renowned dark skies provide exceptional stargazing opportunities after nightfall.

Accessed via a private gravel driveway with ample parking, Ynys offers a true countryside escape.

Abergavenny 12 miles; Hereford 13 miles; Hay-on-Wye 18 miles.

The ancient village of Ewyas Harold is situated on the Dulas Brook, in the Golden Valley, close to the Welsh Border. The thriving village has two inns, a well-stocked shop selling local produce, a Post Office and an award-winning fish and chip shop, as well as Ewyas Harold Common, a large area of land rich in wildlife. Nearby, the pretty village of Abbey Dore is situated on the River Dore and is home to the old established Abbey Dore Court Gardens, open between April and September, along with the 12th century Cistercian abbey and parish church, open to the public. Just 13 miles away is the ancient city of Hereford, which dates back to the 7th century and is home to a magnificent cathedral, the famous 'chained library', Mappa Mundi and a medieval bridge over the winding River Wye. The wonderful market town of Hay-on-Wye, is also nearby, famous for its 30-plus book shops, excellent pubs, restaurants and antique shops, plus the picturesque market town of Abergavenny, the Gateway to Wales, nestles between the seven mountains which surround it. The town boasts a castle with its own museum, churches, an indoor market hall, good shops and a multitude of pubs and restaurants. Ewyas Harold is also close to the Offa's Dyke and Wye Valley Walk, Brecon Beacon National Park and Black Mountains. An ideal base for exploring the area.
