  • "Farm location is idyllic."

Lovely garden and outdoor seating area with hot tub. Flowers and butterflies everywhere. Cows and hens in neighbouring field, and a very friendly farm dog. Owners lived next door and available and helpful but unobtrusive. Cottage itself is compact but well designed and enough space for four of us. Clean and comfortable. We would have liked a few more plates, bowls etc in kitchen as we like to put food on table and help ourselves.

  • "The sealant around the shower needs replacing, black mould in a small area."

The crockery needs replacing as several plates have chips out of them. There were crumbs around the cooker and dust under the beds on arrival. There were no instructions on how to put the heating on and there was no kindling left or enough logs to light the wood burner even once. Instructions on how to get the water in the shower hot would have been helpful instead of having to call the owner. Recommendations of places to eat further afield would have been helpful as the local pubs were not serving food the nights we tried. The welcome basket would have been a nice thought had the coffee not been rock hard so obviously not been checked before we arrived. We also didn't discover this basket until two days after we arrived as the free newspaper of things to do had been placed on top of it. Our first experience of a cottage holiday will not be repeated

Thankyou for your comments- we will undertake to remedy those items noted. The use of the log burner during the summer period is usually not carried out - however the inclement none typical weather may have been a factor. The shower was operating correctly and was due to the guests. Instructions for use of a shower are not necessary. The heating system has a simple instruction in the guest file and is operated on a simple thermostat on entry to the cottage. We appreciate that the very poor weather experienced during the stay may have influenced the comments. Property Owner

We went with our two children (aged 7 and 9) and it was perfect. The hot tub in the evening was a perfect way to end the day after going to the beach, a walk or nearby town. Everywhere is around a 30 minute drive and the beaches were spectacular. We were also grateful to the owners, Mr Lloyd, when our daughter lost her ring he found it and left in a safe place for us to collect on the last day when we had already vacated.

Really appreciated the outside space, i.e. garden with patio set and sun beds, also the covered seating area with hot tub which was pure bliss! The log fire was also a nice feature. A couple of negatives - the shower only provided tepid water despite several attempts to control the heat. Also, the size of the bath towels is inadequate - bath sheets please!! Lastly, Jimmy the dog was a welcome temporary guest - such a character and so lovable.

Many thanks for comments. We have checked the shower which is a relatively new mixer and could not find a fault - we would have appreciated a comment during the stay. The provision of towelling for the hot tub is the responsibility of the guests as is stated in the Pre- booking information on the Sykes site. Many thanks once again. Property Owner

Very rural as on a working dairy farm. Places such as Tenby, Fishguard, St Davids were all easily accessed for day trips. The beaches are wonderful in this part of Wales. Many are long and sandy. Pendine Sands is unbelievable, however the motor museum is undergoing major changes so is currently not open. Jim the dog was a very friendly asset to our cottage stay. Made himself quite at home. Lovely welcome basket as well. A suor choice of location and cottage.

  • "Have booked before with Sykes and think we have been very spoilt with the accomodation we have previously stayed in."

Ffynnonlwyd Cottage itself was adequate, however, I do feel the bathroom was in need of some TLC. Realised on reflection that no photo was available of the shower and when we stayed here, we understand why. The shower itself was actually very good and powerful but the enclosure was very small and a little run down. I am of a large build and did struggle getting in and out, even my partner with a smaller frame still found this a little restricting in space. There is so much room in the bathroom to make something so much better than what is available. The bedding was very simple and did have a couple of stains on as did a couple of the towels. A few cobwebs which always makes me on edge when staying at an property however the kitchen was spotless. The hottub was the main reason for booking as we always like to relax in one after a good days walking. We couldnt fault this. Hot and well maintained , just a shame we couldnt use it after our very long journey on arrival. Someone already mentioned the steps to the garden and I agree they are extremely slippery as was the decking, some parts covered in algae. Although after coming back on our second day,we noticed the steps had been washed and the decking had been attempted to be cleaned also. The finer detail and little touches which could have made such a difference was lacking.A small welcome basket with tea coffee and sugar was provided but just my personal opinion,Condiments would have been a little touch that could have been available at the cottage. There is no salt or pepper. There was a small bin in the bathroom but no liner or any type of small bags that ladies need to have available . The plumbing and toilet is on a macerator so you could not flush certain things so these sanitary bags would have been extremely helpful and handy. We sadly never got to light the log fire as there was nothing there to light the fire and we wasnt met by the owner until he said hello on our last day as we were leaving. I guess we could have knocked at the house to ask for some fire lighters. All that being said, we had a lovely break away and enjoyed our stay in Wales. The cottage is ideally situated to visit some beautiful places.

Thank you for your comments. The bathroom and shower will be the next renovation at Ffynnonlwyd cottage during the winter period - a new shower unit will be fitted. The current bathroom has not had any issues and is clean and tidy at all times. We have not purposely left the shower off the pictures and find this comment somewhat insulting. We will look to add a picture asap. The bedding is not simple - it is white in colour and practical for cleaning etc. We check the laundry every week and take out anything that may have a stain. We apologise if there was a stain however we are surprised as this is checked thoroughly. Cobwebs are also removed by the cleaner and double checked by the owner each week - cobwebs can return overnight especially out in the coutryside as we are. Farms and the countryside generally have more flies etc and where there are flies we normally get Spiders. The Hot Tub is cleaned and emptied between guests and we inform the guest that the hot tub will be ready by 12 noon the following day. We do not have the facility to fill with hot water at present but this will be possible next season. The steps and decking/surround around Hot Tub is cleaned with Hot Water and detergent every week as part of the Hot Tub cleaning process and this was done before the guest arrived and not a day afterwards as indicated below. When wet, all steps can be slippery there are signs indicating this. The decking area was cleaned throroughly before the guest arrived. In most situations the guest are very happy with the welcome pack. Condiments such as salt and pepper were discontinued due to Covid rules but could be re-introduced now. Regarding the bin in the bathroom, thank you for drawing this to our attention, this was a mistake and will be corrected for the future. Logs and kindling are provided - we accept that the fire lighters may not have been present. _*We apologise for not carrying out the meet and greet however due to commitments the time had passed rapidly during a busy week. *_ _*We are always available nearby for any queries and if the guests need anything. Just ask.*_ _* Property Owner

It was so peaceful. I expected to be woken each morning by the sound of living on a working farm, but instead, it was the sound of birds, and cow's in the distance. We had very little contact with the owners as they were on holiday at the same time, but we didn't need any help with anything until our 7th day, and our problem was solved immediately by the owners son Rhodric (sorry if i spelt that wrong!) & the cleaner Sharon, who were both wonderful & a plumber had the problem fixed by the end of the day. I couldn't fault the cottage and hope that one day we go back again.

  • "We have just return from a week at The cottage and it was amazing."

Exactly as described. A lovely little cottage on a working farm. Our first impressions when entering the farm was how clean and well maintained it was. Haydn and Sian were so welcoming and showed us around their gorgeous gardens. The children were thrilled to be welcomed by little old Jim the dog every day and we even got to see baby cows in the small field behind the cottage. The accommodation was perfect. Clean, spacious with everything we needed and the added bonus of a washing machine to freshen up our beach towels and the children’s clothes. The hot tub was amazing and never lost its heat. You can tell it is well maintained. The patio area is full of plants and the view out of the kitchen window of Hayden and Sian’s flowers is beautiful. Even on the first day when it was a bit rainy it did not dampen our spirits as the cottage is so lovely. Haydn bought us logs for the log burner so we could have a cosy evening by the log burner after a dip in the undercover hot tub and take in the idealic peace of being in the countryside. We loved that (like the surrounding area) the garden was on multiple levels (which were easily accessible by our children and mother in law) as it allowed us to take in the great surrounding views. The local town St Clears has great shops to get fresh food including butchers and a bakers and several pubs, restaurants and takeaways. The cottage is in an easy drive of many local attractions for both kids and adults. During our time we visited beaches at Saundersfoot, Amroth, Pendine and Tenby. We took a boat ride from Tenby to an amazing island. When the weather was not as sunny we visited Camarthen indoor market and walked around several fantastic castles. We also had a great day at the National Botanic Gardens of Wales. On our final day we took the children to Heatherton World of Adventures. All these places we would highly recommend. We definitely hope to be back as the accommodation was perfect and we still have lots more places to explore. Thank-you Haydn and Sian …… Ps this kids are missing Jim the dog already

  • "There was no mention in the description that the bathroom ran on a macherator system, which would have caused me to disregard this cottage completely, as both myself and my daughter have a phobia about toilets and plumbing in general."

Second bedroom had no window, to compensate a glass door with a net curtain was used to bring natural light in. However, straight outside this door, the passage has an automatic light that comes on and off as you pass, waking them up. One of the beds in the twin room was rock hard, leaving my daughter taking pain killers. The garden was up really steep steps and there should have been a fence around it to stop the dog trying to jump down such a steep drop. Hot tub not hot enough toward end of week. There was a leak under bathroom sink, after we told owner he came straight away to fix it. However, it didn't fix the problem.

Thank you for your feedback. We have not come across any issues with the toilet and plumbing system causing any phobias or fears and would imagine that most cottages will have similar toilets and plumbing. The use of a standard Saniflo type toilet system is very common in most domestic houses and this system only operates when the toilet is flushed. The system is regularly checked and serviced annually. The leak beneath the sink was checked during the stay and was not found to be leaking - the small amount of water on the shelf was cleaned during the stay. Water can easily come from anywhere and so this appears to be user error. The twin bedroom does not have an outside window as it is an internal room within a building. The door is glass paned and has a screen attached. There has never been any issues with this before. The twin beds have been checked following the comments and both are less than 5 years old and again a bed's hardness and is personal preference. The mattresses are clean and in good condition. The passageway leading from the hallway does have an automatic light however this was installed to aid guests arriving late - this has been a very successful addition made a few years ago and the comments made are noted but will not be acted upon. The garden area is accessed by a few steps which are no steeper than most household stairs. They are kept clean and free from deposits regularly. They access a pretty garden area. The comments regarding the dog trying to jump down from the garden area to the hot tub area are subjective. We regularly carry out risk assessments on safety and this has never been an issue. To fence this area would be difficult and counterproductive. The hot tub temperature: the hot tub is emptied / sanitised and refilled with clean water between every guest stay. The temperature is set at 38.5 degrees. The temperature at the end of the stay was altered by the guest to 35.5 degrees which could explain the reduction. These comments received do not match up with the many other very positive reviews we usually receive from other guests who have visited the property. Regards, Haydn Property Owner

Also some things such as the fairy lights outside did not work. The cottage is in a lovely location though and is very well decorated.

  • "Well our holiday was the best we have had so far!"

We want to say thank you to Haydn and his family for the accommodation and for making it special for us. We arrived to receive a bottle of cold wine, the place was lovely and warm especially needed with a newborn baby! Haydn was more than helpful and said if we needed anything at all just to ask. The place has been completely refurbished and is done to the most amazing standard! Everything is so modern and so relaxing. The cleanliness was also exceptional! The hot tub was our favourite thing in the cottage, it also has a lie down seat which was absolutely amazing and was boiling hot and clean. The accommodation is in the middle of All the activities of west wales and is about half hour away from Tesco and Morrison’s which is a very easy drive. Don’t be put off with it being on a working farm we could literally hear nothing just peace and quiet no matter what time of day it was! They are very dog friendly and accommodate well for your pet there is a lovely walk just down by the cottage! We honestly can’t thank Haydn enough for everything. Hopefully we will be back in the summer or we will definitely be with you in the winter :) Kirsty, Nick, Oscar, Ella and Lunar dog.
