  • "Beautiful part of wales, very located on a very quiet small road, ideal for anyone who’s looking to relax."

Really homely feel as soon as you walk in. Loved our holiday!

  • "The directions to get to the house were clear and straightforward (we arrived in the dark so this was pretty crucial!"

), key collection was easy too, no pressure to arrive by a certain time. The house was very comfortable, clean and well equipped. There was plenty of information around about the various pieces of equipment and how they worked, except for the TV which rather foxed us! We had a twenty-month old with us for part of the time, a stairgate, nightlight and travel cot were very kindly provided for us by the owners (thankyou so much). We did a 'reccy' to protect breakables from our active toddler, and hopefully put everything back where it should be, the last half-hour before leaving is always a bit of rush, so apologies if it wasn't quite right! The beach and footpaths are well within walking distance but there are some steep hills! The beach at Oxwich is particularly child friendly as it is flat, with cafes and toilet facilities, also a large carpark. Communication with Sykes and the owners could not have been easier, we didn't have any problems while we there but it was clear that the owners would be available to help. Would happily recommend Hillside to other guests.

Thank you so much for your enthusiastic response to Hillcrest: I am so glad all went well and that you had everything you needed. It was very kind of you to take the time to give such a detailed commentary, which hopefully will be helpful for any others who may be thinking about booking. You would be most welcome to come again! • "A lovely cottage in a stunning location."

Some rooms had been updated, which were really good, but others had quite a tired feel to them. The overall cleanliness was a little lacking with dust and very old cobwebs in some areas.

Loved the log fire. Very well equipped and great location for exploring the Gower. Despite the weather being somewhat unpredictable, had a great time.

  • "The cottage is really pretty, a little rustic and very cold when we arrived but warmed up after a few days."

It is probably lovely in the summer, but in the winter the lack of proper insulation is a problem. As is the problem with the sound coming from roof tiles lifting in the wind, very noisy and difficult to sleep. The problem is ongoing as other guests have mentioned it.

Thank you for your review, and it was pleasing to read that you felt Hillcrest was really pretty. From your comments in the Guest book it seems you had a busy - but hopefully enjoyable! - week there. However, with regards to the heating, I am sorry you felt cold. I had e-mailed you, prior to arrival, to explain that the storage heaters (though meant to be simple!) are complicated to run, and that if you needed the setting changed, our kind neighbour would be able to do this . However, as you did not contact me during your stay I was unaware there was a problem. With the weather currently so changeable it is hard to get the setting right, and individual tastes do vary: a previous couple were so warm they had turned the heaters off completely! With regard to the roof tiles, yes they can make a noise when the wind blows in a certain direction and I am so sorry you experienced this - it does not happen often. We have had the roof checked and there is no problem with the tiles themselves, but we understand it is an issue with other houses in the locality as well, all of whom have likewise have had their roofs checked - it is just an unfortunate effect created by the wind at certain times. There is a note explaining this in the Welcome File and we hope that it will only rarely be an issue - sadly the weather is one element over which we have absolutely no control! Thank you for your understanding Property Owner

  • "Fantastic property in the perfect location for exploring south Gower."

Oxwich Bay is just 2 minutes away and there is access on to the coast path via a network of footpaths one of which is just outside the front door. The log burner makes for a cosy retreat on an autumn evening.

So glad you had a good week and that all went well Property Owner

Lovely time otherwise, wonderful peaceful location.

  • "Very cosy end terrace in very tranquil spot with outstanding views to coast / sea from all 3 bedrooms & kitchen window."

Do not be put off by lack of other reviews as owner ( Jane ) has only just started letting property out as holiday home and we were only 2nd visitors ( week from 21 May 2022 ). The property is in an ideal spot for discovering the local beaches & countryside which are within a few minutes walk away or a 10 minute drive gets you to the King Arthur pub / restaurant in Reynoldston which serves good food and drink at reasonable prices. We found the property an ideal base to explore this part of Wales which we had not previously been to.

Thank you so much for your very thoughtful feedback which we were delighted to read - the photos were also very welcome! We hope you may consider coming again, now that you know what is on offer Property Owner
