"The Old Stables was the perfect place for our quiet getaway."
The accommodation was cosy and peaceful, and right outside the doorway was beautiful greenery to enjoy and only a few steps to the Usk Valley River walk.
It had everything we needed from a comfy bed to a good shower and the host was very welcoming, making sure we had everything we needed.
We used the Old Stables as our base for exploring as it was under an hour from Cardiff (South), Brecon Beacons (Northeast), Hay-on-Wye (North), and only 20 mins from Abergavenny.
Overall a delightful stay and we'd love to stay again!

"We had a great week."
The Old Stables were perfect with everything we needed together with a comfortable bed and a good shower! The accommodation is surrounded by picturesque countryside and the river close by. Excellent for walking.
The owner Frances was available if we needed anything. She also invited us to visit her beautiful walled garden behind the house. Everything you could want for a peaceful stay.

"We originally intended to stay elsewhere and thank our lucky stars that that didn't work out!"
Because it wouldn't have held a candle to our glorious time at The Old Stables. The gracious, charming and witty hostess couldn't help us enough. The accommodation sports a cosy and supremely comfortable bed; the kitchen is well appointed and has everything you need to cook any meal--plus the basic condiments, cutlery and even fresh rosemary and quince jelly. The setting is sublime--peaceful, with only the sound of the nearby river Usk coursing by, an ancient forest, a carpet of copper beech leaves, two affectionate ponies in the pasture. lots of hyperbole here? Only because it's well-deserved. The Old Stables offer anything a body could want for a wonderful restorative break. Looking forward to a return.

"This was a lovely well appointed venue in which to stay."
We had everything we needed. The owner and her assistant were most helpful. It is set in a very quiet area. The only noise we had was from the occupants in the place above. From the Monday when they were in residence they clumped across the floor and could be heard especially in the bedroom. Whoever was in the apartment earlier was so quiet, it made quite a contrast. Everything from the cutlery to the toilet paper was of high quality.

"We loved our stay at the “Old Stables”."
Immediately on arrival we knew we’d found a gem. The space is furnished with a style adding to the authenticity of the building and was modern, clean and fresh on arrival. The bed was comfortable and the linen nice. Fantastic large shower with plenty of hot water. We loved the outdoor garden seating in the late afternoon sun. Located on the Usk River trail we had wonderful access to nature and the countryside and nearby villages. We appreciated the eggs and milk left for us and the local suggestions of places to visit. We had a memorable stay.

"An amazing place to stay in the heart of the countryside."
It was a very comfortable and well equipped apartment .the owner was very helpful and ensured we were well looked after. We were invited to visit the stunning garden which was really spectacular. I am sure we will visit again.
One small point - Trostrey Lodge was not easy to find on our aged Satnav or OS map. In directions suggest include take Satnav to Bettws Newedd and then take road towards Clytha. Take the turning to the left after exactly 0.8 miles. This is narrow and is not signposted.

"The plus points of this property were its location (miles from anywhere), plenty of kitchen facilities, fabulous waterfall shower and large super soft towels."
The drawbacks to this property are an oversoft bed (I appreciate beds are a personal choice), incredibly hard pillows, the lack of curtains after dark was quite disconcerting.
Thank you for your feedback, we are delighted to hear you enjoyed the fantastic location of the cottage and it's facilities. In regards to your feedback about the bed in the property, many of our guests have commented positively on the comfort level but we do understand everyone has a personal preference and are sorry to hear you did not find it to your liking. We do have blinds in the property that can be pulled down for the night times, but will take your feedback about curtains onboard.
