The Old Barracks Apartments

The Old Barracks Apartments consists of a stylish selection of seven contemporary apartments set in a prime Sheffield location, offering the perfect balance of city convenience and countryside adventure. Steeped in history, these apartments occupy the upper section of the iconic Hillsborough Barracks, a landmark built between 1848 and 1854 as a major fortified military base for cavalry and infantry. Originally home to a hospital, chapel, horse regiment with veterinary facilities, and quarters for hundreds of soldiers and officers, the barracks later housed the Mess establishment and quarters for around 40 officers and their servants, alongside a chapel facing Langsett Road. After Army's use ended in 1930, the site was redeveloped in the 1980s into its current form, blending housing, shops, and a hotel while preserving its military heritage.

This collection boasts stylish open-plan layouts, off-road parking, pet-friendly accommodation, and proximity to local amenities and the breath-taking Peak District National Park, making it an ideal base for families, couples, and groups of friends. Newly renovated, each apartment retains period charm and distinctive features, including Queen Victoria fire surrounds, graceful arches, and original sash windows, some still etched with glasswork engraved by officers using diamond rings. These personal touches, combined with elegant design, create a truly unique setting for romantic escapes, business trips, or family gatherings. Fully equipped kitchens and bathrooms ensure comfort and convenience throughout your stay.

The barracks’ storied past includes regiments such as the Yorkshire Dragoons, 4th Royal Irish Dragoon Guards, 98th Prince of Wales Foot, and the Royal Field Artillery, among others, echoes of a proud military heritage that still resonates within these walls. If only the building could speak, the tales of officers, soldiers, and historic moments would unfold in every stone.

Treat your loved ones to a meal at Enver’s Bar and Grill, serving Mediterranean-inspired dishes in a chic setting, or The Orange Bird, renowned for its vibrant atmosphere and creative cuisine. When it’s time to explore, head into Sheffield for galleries, theatres, and bustling eateries, or venture to the Peak District National Park for rugged trails, charming villages, and sweeping views. For history and character, Chesterfield offers its iconic crooked spire and traditional market, while Doncaster promises heritage sites, a lively shopping scene, and its famous racecourse. Make your stay unforgettable with a visit to Chatsworth House, where opulent interiors and landscaped gardens create a sense of grandeur, or immerse yourself in Sheffield’s industrial story at Kelham Island Museum with interactive exhibits and riverside walks. For something truly unique, glide above the valley at the Heights of Abraham in a cable car, take in panoramic views, and explore illuminated caverns steeped in history.

Escape to The Old Barracks Apartments for a memorable South Yorkshire getaway, where heritage meets style and comfort in a setting unlike any other.
