  • "Spent a week in the Lochside Shepherd in June."

Very nice place and so conveniently placed for our holiday. Great views from the living room window and double room, we could see plenty of wildlife (it was nice to see deer wander past the house) also we could see the Jacobite Train from the dining area. The house was well equipped and had everything we needed, I was very impressed by the water pressure, it must come from the mountains. The stove was easy to light too. The Glenfinnan Centre was easy walking distance, which was good as the car park there was constantly full, with people being turned away, I can't believe so many people go there just to watch the Jacobite Train go across the viaduct. If you are looking for shops for supplies I would recommend going to nearby Fort William, which has a Morrisons, Lidl and a M&S. One new feature we didn't know about was the sauna next door,. Very handy if you are planning to go for a swim in the loch, but sadly we had bad weather so instead of our swimming things, we took warm weather clothing. However I would recomment a good pair of sandals if you are planning to go in the loch as some of those stones can be a bit sharp. If you are planning a holiday up there, and like me you have a few TV addicts in your party, then I suggest you buy a small smart TV to take with you as we did, the internet connection is very good and you can watch tv through Iplayer or ITVX. There is a TV in the twin room, but it's setup to use Netflix, if like us you don't have a Neflix account, you can plug another device into the back of it. If you want to take a trip on the Jacobite Train, book up well in advance as it will be full. Also it is well worth taking a trip on the Loch Sheil Cruise which is just down the floating jetty next to the house. On Wednesdays they do a full loch cruise, but it's well worth it to see the wildlife. Also from Glefinnan, a 90 minute drive will take you to the ferry across to Tobermory (Mull) and in a couple of hours you can get to Inverness. If you are planning a trip to Skye, best route is to Mallaig and take the ferry rather than the long way round to Kyle of Lochalsh, but check the ferries are running as normal. Fort William is a nice place for holiday souvenirs, there are banks there too, also nearby is Glen Nevis with the walk to the top of Ben Nevis (5 miles) but make sure you have at least two litres of water for that plus clothing for bad weather in case it changes, and give yourself a full day to go up it. If you don't fancy the climb, you can you up one of the neighbouring mountains in a cable car. All in all a great place to stay, it's also worth reading about the history of the cottage, and the family tree on the wall

Thanks for the informative feedback Richard. Pleasure to meet you and the family. Best wishes James Property Owner

  • "This cottage has been updated to a high standard and is very comfortable."

The location is wonderful. My only problem was the step access outside was awkward and it really needs addressing.

Thanks for your feedback Joy. I'll look into the step issue. There is no wheelchair access at present. Best wishes James Property Owner

  • "We loved the location of the cottage."

Near enough to the viaduct with the Harry Potter steam train and the excitement from the crowd waiting but far away enough to be in a peaceful lochside location. The scenery was breathtaking. The cottage had been beautifully renovated. It was well equipped. Would suggest that a microwave would be a welcome addition to the kitchen. The owners were extremely helpful and welcoming as was Joe who lived nearby. We would recommend staying here and would love to return ourselves one day

Thanks for the feedback Helen. Always take on good quality feedback. I'll consider putting a microwave and tv in the property at the end of the busy season. . Just didn't want to lose the charm Thanks James Property Owner

  • "Great location."

Great, homely property. Loved it. Only wrinkle was the shower couldn’t be set to a lower temperature- but a really minor biggie. Otherwise fantastic

Thanks for the feedback Dave. Shower now fixed. Best wishes James Property Owner

  • "We had a really lovely stay at Slatach."

The location is amazing, what a view of the Loch! And the house itself is clean, cosy and has so much interesting Scottish heritage within it. Glenfinnan coffee wagon just up the road is especially convenient and kept us fuelled for exploring the Highlands. This accommodation has everything you need when you’re visiting for a walking/exploring holiday or stay especially a decent hot shower! We are hoping to come back very soon

Glad you enjoyed your stay Doug. See you soon! James Property Owner

  • "Loved the feel of the cottage, and the cleanliness."

Note that there is no TV in the cottage, but there is good Wifi. Waking up to the view over the lake on one side, and the mountains on the other side was a great way to start the day. If you like birds, I suggest that people use a bird-sound app such as Merlin to identify them. There was a good variety around the cottage. Also to note: the cooker is induction, and for the first few days we found it difficult to bring anything to the boil - until we discovered an induction "plate" with a handle, which can be placed under the pan each time you use the cooker.

Happy you enjoyed your stay Linda. Thanks for all the feedback. Best wishes James Property Owner

! The locals are so friendly and accommodating, we had a day of heavy rain all day and the locals checked we were ok and offered a route through their own garden to get past the flooded loch! The property is cozy and has all the basic things required. 10/10 we will be back!

Glad you had a good time Laura. Busy clearing storm damage so never got a chance to meet you. That was Joe you meet. Bit of a celebrity round here. Surprised he didn't sing you a song! Maybe next time Property Owner

The beds are so comfy and the shower is amazing. The location is just stunning, by far the best view I've ever had from a property, right on the edge of the loch, it's just beautiful and peaceful. The owner, James, is lovely and I would definitely recommend his coffee
