    Everything you could possibly need for a self catering stay , the place was absolutely spotless , everything you need on your doorstep with it being on the Main Street , was expecting street noise with being on Main Street but can definitely say we were never bothered by it very quiet, I personally think for the price this place is a steal very good value for money and could be charging a lot more with the standard and cleanliness of the flat would definitely recommend if looking at staying in this area

  • "Great location for peace and quiet, whilst still being very much in the middle of things."

    A nice welcome hamper with wine and nibbles was provided. Very comfy firm bed. Three negative points are: No shampoo or soap provided. The smart TV's internet connectivity was intermittent. And the biggest negative, without which I might have scored this flat 8 or 9 out of 10 are the fact that although the two sofas looked okay, they were unusable - I could not sit on them as they had all the firmness of marshmallow. A real disappointment that turned what would have been an almost perfect stay into an average one.

  • "We absolutely loved our stay in the flat above 27."

    The flat is actually in the village of Stanhope, about 20 minutes drive from Bishop Auckland. The village is beautiful - the river walk especially - and there is a Co-Op, butchers, bakers etc as well as a really good chippy and Indian. There is a pub directly next door which looked good, and wasn't noisy from the flat. It was the perfect location for us. The flat seems to have been recently refurbished in order to cater for holiday rentals. It's a really high standard throughout. There were a few little things we would add; black out curtains in the bedroom rather than just blinds, wooden/plastic cooking utensils rather than metal ones (we tried really hard not to scratch the pans!). The king mattress could probably use a topper as well. A welcome pack would also be helpful to set expectations on cleaning, recycling, etc. But these are just little things and did not affect our enjoyment of the place. Would highly recommend this beautiful flat and village for anyone looking for a holiday.

  • "A very well appointed, clean and comfortable apartment with a large well equipped kitchen and fabulous shower in the bathroom."

    The apartment is situated on the Front Street, Stanhope, close to all amenities with an Indian Takeaway and Co-op store with ATM on one side and a pub on the other with the Everyday Cafe below. Parking is restricted to two hours but there is ample parking across the road in the square. As the apartment is on the main street there is road/traffic noise but this becomes un-noticeable after a short while. We stayed over the Christmas/New Year period and the owners kindly left a lovely welcome pack and had decorated the living room. We had a very enjoyable and relaxing holiday, the only negative was two power cuts which plunged the whole village into total darkness, for at least up to an hour on one occasion. Thankfully we had a couple of torches to get us through until power was restored. The area is ideal for keen walkers to explore the Weardale Valley and places of interest are within 30/40 minutes drive of the apartment. We would thoroughly recommend this to anyone.

Get comfortable in the lounge, relaxing on the sofa and tuning into your favourite shows from the Smart TV.

Move over to the kitchen, appointed with all the essentials for a short stay, including an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer and washing machine.

Pour yourself a bottle of wine and toast to a long-awaited break, before settling at the dining table for a home-cooked dish.

Alternatively, explore your local surroundings, where you will find a superb selection of eateries, including The Merry Monk, The Stanley Jefferson, Manzo Steakeria and the welcoming gastropub of The Pollards Inn.

Once returning from a tasty meal, wash away the day in the bathroom before retiring to either of the bedrooms to catch rest.

About the location

BISHOP AUCKLAND

Durham 11 miles;

Bishop Auckland is a busy market town, 11 miles to the south of Durham and is home to the Gothic palace of Auckland Castle and deer park, a 900 year old medieval hunting lodge and grounds, once home to the Prince Bishop’s of England. Bishop Auckland offers a thriving arts and cultural scene with a cinema, theatre and arts complex. There are plenty of places to eat and drink in the town centre and an abundance of shops to peruse. On the outskirts of the town you can discover the secrets of the largest Roman Fort in the county at Binchester or perhaps book a night at Kynren, a spectacular night show depicting the history of England, seen through the eyes of Arthur, a 10 year old boy from the North East, (opening July 2016) and marvel at the pyrotechnics, stunning lighting and water effects. There is a scenic railway line which runs from Bishop Auckland to Stanhope. It was purchased quite recently by Jonathan Ruffer the man behind the Auckland Project and instrumental in bringing Kynren to Bishop Auckland. The city of Durham is just a short drive north with an array of shops, pubs and restaurants, and a little further will take you to the Roman town of Chester-le-Street or Beamish Museum. A little further afield you can discover the Durham Dales, Newcastle upon Tyne, Hadrian's Wall, the Heritage Coast, Cragside at Rothbury and the North York Moors; there’s something for everyone.
