“We loved the location of the property as it was central and within walking distance to the town and the castle.”

No parking facilities but we never struggled to find a parking spot on the street out the front of the property. The living room was missing a lamp or two as was pretty dark but we just moved a bedroom lamp in there to brighten it up in the evening to make it more cosey. The decor in the house was fab! We had fresh new towels delivered to us on arrival and milk and bread left in the kitchen which was so thoughtful. I would definitely recommend this property

The property

Resting in the centre of Barnard Castle is this lovely terraced cottage, 17 King Street, just a stroll away from all the delights of the historic town.

Perfectly suited to a group of couples seeking a relaxing break from the everyday, 17 King Street boasts four bedrooms and benefits from an off-road parking space.

Be welcomed into the sitting room upon entering the property and look forward to relaxing in here following a busy day being a tourist, with a woodburning stove to warm you on a winter's eve, a TV for entertainment and sofas to curl up on.

Head through to the sleek, modern kitchen where a kitchen island takes centre stage, followed by a range of excellent appliances for cooking up your favourite dishes and a lovely dining table.Travel up the stairs when night falls to find four delightful double bedrooms, all home to storage for your things, with some boasting views over the quaint courtyard and others offering a look onto the street and the town.

Serving the bedrooms is the bathroom with a walk-in shower and a bath to freshen up in.

The centre of Barnard Castle is lined with Georgian and Victorian architecture and is known for its quality antique shops, as well as being home to plenty of independent shops, cafés and restaurants, with a Morrisons nearby too.

Wander over to the weekly market every Wednesday and the Farmer's Market on Sundays held in Market Place, perfect for picking up local produce and finding a lovely holiday souvenir.

Head to The Bowes Museum and be amazed by this French chateau-inspired building, purpose built in the 19th century and known to be one of the finest museums outside of London.

Of course you can't visit Barnard Castle without paying a trip to its namesake, with the ruins of Barnard Castle set on a high rock above the River Tees affording fantastic views over the Tees Gorge; see if you can find Richard III's boar emblem carved into the castle!

Walkers can explore the surrounding area and come across more historic sites on their travels like Egglestone Abbey and Egglestone Abbey Bridge, whilst a scenic drive venturing further afield to the North Pennines AONB presents plenty more walking country to discover, as well as in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

BARNARD CASTLE

Staindrop 6 miles; Richmond 13 miles; Darlington 16 miles; Durham 20 miles.

The market town of Barnard Castle is situated in the unspoilt countryside of Teesdale in County Durham. It stands on the site of an ancient Roman fort which crosses the river. The medieval ruins of the castle still tower over the river and are well worth a visit. Known affectionately as 'Barney’ by residents and visitors alike, the town boasts cobble streets, yards and back lanes, which were first laid out in the 12th century. The nearby Bowes Museum is well worth a visit and a wonderful way to spend a day wandering around this beautiful building and experiencing the fascinating exhibitions. Beautiful walking country is right on the doorstep of this lovely market town, with woodland walks and cycle routes and the Lake District, the Pennine and Teesdale Ways, and the River Tees and magnificent waterfalls at High Force are all within easy reach.
