  • "Very comfortable stay."

Although you are next to the road there is very little noise problem. And as there is no parking space with this cottage it is not a problem as there is plenty of safe space round the village green etc. although it was a bit of a pain unloading and loading the car. Overall a very good stay in a beautiful village.

Hot tub was amazing Complimentary food left was so nice! One issue we had was the small bed was broken which we didn’t realise until the next day and my sister who slept on it (luckily she’s very petite) woke with a bad back and we realised the beds collapsed! We just thought it was a very soft mattress! So that needs replacing! As my sister had to sleep in with my mum the next night! Also could do with not having the noisy boiler in the main bedroom! Which I appreciate isn’t an easy fix! Apart from that we had a great stay.

  • "We really enjoyed our stay, please see our pros and cons to help other guests :) Cons; Hot tub is on the front of the cottage, in a shared garden."

This is fairly private but it’s not ideal for dog owners due to them not being able to roam free around the shared garden. The seating area in the back garden has no padding or comforts. All bedding + towels are white, again not ideal for a dog friendly property. Although we were very grateful for the welcome package we received, this is the first stay we have been on where theres been nothing catered to the dogs. Local pub is very rough, limited beer selection + a handful of basic spirits. Not very welcoming to ‘tourists’ which is a shame as we usually fall in love with the local pub Pros; Lovely location, very close to Bedale for some sweet nick nack shopping. Gorgeous bakeries! Loads of amazing local walks to do, we were sad our stay wasn’t longer. Welcome pack included eggs, bacon, bread and some crisps - very grateful!! Sofa and the bed we stayed in were very comfy. Wifi is very good which is rare usually for Sykes. Although the listing says you can hear the main road, we didn’t get any noise within the property which is a bonus!! Parking isn’t as far away as it looks Hot tub was clean and always a great temperature Kitchen is a decent size (not enough chairs for the amount of guests the property can hold though) Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would return should it be more dog friendly next time. Great location for keen hikers like ourselves :)

We left several messages re toilet blocked ... we had to drive to Bedale to get some toilet unblocker, no garden furniture cushions, no way of getting into the cleaning cupboard and unclear how to use the dishwasher as most of the writing rubbed off . They're probably are only minor issues but did spoil our stay in this lovely place .

  • "We stayed at Loft Cottage for 6 nights as we were in between house moves."

We are local to the area so knew our way around very well. Due to a mix up with Sykes the cottage owners were not expecting us so there was a lack of preparation for our stay, not the owners fault at all and they generously apologized with flowers, chocolates and prosecco which was very kind. The cottage is comfortable and roomy for 2 though I would expect it to be cramped at full occupancy (5) and there is only 1 combined bathroom/toilet. Despite not having parking at the property this was not a problem and even unloading a weeks worth of supplies proved hassle free and there was always lots of parking available beyond the pub. We did visit the pub once, it has a very basic food menu and limited bar and geared to locals, we enjoyed several visits to nearby Bedale which has an abundance of everything. The bed and sofa were super comfortable and the cottage is furnished to a high quality. We stayed during a week of violent storms, the front wooden door had swollen with the rain and didnt close properly, the lounge is the chilliest room in the house but upstairs is very warm and cosy. We were able to let our dog out in the courtyard but always had to check that the from gates were closed s this exits direct onto a main road. The abundant grass areas opposite the cottage are great for exercising dogs and there is a play area for children.

The cottage was a good size and well positioned for us to visit lots of places. We all enjoyed using the hot tub after each long day of site seeing. Good sized garden, we just wish it was fully enclosed so the children could’ve played out there unsupervised (close to road with a gate leading out and hedges along the road side rather than a fence). Lovely open area outside with swings and slides in a quiet, quaint village - Will definitely be visiting again in the future. Thank you⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Enjoyed the hot tub especially after long walks. Nice egg chair too. The downsides were the lack of a washing machine/dryer or means of drying wet towels, swim wear or washing/drying clothes after a massive downpour we were caught in Also it would be good to have covers for the garden furniture as due to the rain showers and the birds using the seats for ongoing target practice they were either too wet or too messed up to use when the sun did come out. It would also have been good to have more fans as it was warm at night especially in the single room. All in all we had an enjoyable holiday in a lovely cottage thank you

  • "Elegantly decorated cottage inside with an old style and charmed appearance from the outside with a pretty maintained front and back garden."

Fantastic size hot tub to relax in which was regularly maintained. Facilities all inside. However, a few minor maintenance issues need to be done in the cottage of which I did mention to the owner: Knob off a draw, bulb not working in a bedroom, no room for wardrobes but instead a hanging attachment to wall which was sufficient but one was broken in one of the bedrooms, water leaking from the end of hose attachment for shower unit, can opener didn’t work, 2 windows not staying open as cords broken and one not shutting. However, we managed and we had a wonderful stay. The bonus was a fantastic location in Crakehall near the small village of Bedale in North Yorkshire. The Bay Horse pub is a 5 min walk away with friendly staff and locals with tasty food and large portions. Bedale is a charming village with pleasant shops to peruse around, local produce to buy or from a small Tesco’s. There are a few pubs with good food and large portions and restaurants to eat in or take away. Taste of India we highly recommend. For visits out there is the Swinton estate/bivouac to see the stunning view from the cafe or from the woods of the reservoir near the Druid’s Temple. Rievaulx Abbey, Masham village and walk along the river, or a trip out to the coast (1hour and a half hours) to beautiful Whitby. You can do a slightly longer trip and choose the route through the gorgeous Dales to Grassington, a pretty village with pubs and cafes where the filming was for All Creatures Great and Small. A truly relaxing trip in a stunning part of the UK.

Thank you for your feedback and we are pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay. We can confirm that the issues that raised have now been rectified. Property Owner

The courtyard at the back was perfect for a morning brew in the sunshine. The place is very well maintained and very clean, there is the odd dog hair but it's to be expected in a dog friendly place! The local village is warm and friendly, sat on a couple of nights at the local pub with a nice cold pint just watching the village quoits match and village cricket match going on in the background... it doesn't get more Yorkshire than that! Maybe an extras choice when booking to purchase various hampers local cheeses, beers, wine etc. Overall lovely little cottage in great surroundings and would recommend to others looking for a quiet getaway.

Sykes Cottages were really helpful in answering any questions or queries I had, especially when I called to get a few extra copies of the keys so that our actors could come and go as they please. The cottage itself was beautiful and well-presented, and extremely good value.

The cottage was ideal for 4 adults and 1 child, 5 adults may have been a squeeze for some. Ideal base for exploring North Yorkshire. The lack of wardrobe space may not be ideal for some guests but it really didn't bother any of our party. Would reccomend this property and the others attached. Very helpful people throughout.

The cottage has outside space at the front and a little garden space at the back, we had lovely weather and was able to sit outside. Plenty of lovely villages and town to visit around the area and some good walks. I would’ve hesitate to book again and would certain recommend.

St Edmunds Cottages

Nestled in the peaceful village of Crakehall in the lower Yorkshire Dales, these cottages offer a serene destination for a relaxing break. From the outside, these pretty properties are aesthetically pleasing with stone frontages, window frames painted a tasteful mint green, and well-kept gardens with views over Bedale Beck. Inside, the cottages are a well-balanced mix of contemporary design and period features, with modern kitchens and bathrooms intermingling with exposed beams and original windows. The décor is neutral throughout with elegant splashes of colour complementing certain rooms. Despite the rural location, the properties are well connected with each offering WiFi and top-of-the-range Smart TVs. The village of Crakehall is regarded by many as one of the prettiest in the Yorkshire Dales, featuring a 5-acre green surrounded by Sycamore and lime trees, populated by stone-built cottages, some of which dating back as far as the 1600’s. It is split into two by a tributary of the River Swale, Bedale Beck, forming Little Crakehall and Great Crakehall. The complex of holiday cottages and their gardens overlook both the bridge and the beck, as well as the A684 road, which provides part of the Tour de Yorkshire route. The village is close to the market town of Bedale with its selection of shops and pubs, as well as museum and weekly market. If walking is more your thing there are plenty of picturesque walking routes in the vicinity, especially in the beautiful valleys of the Yorkshire Dales.
