The property

Sedbergh 3.2 miles.

New Barn Conversion is a striking converted barn resting in Cautley, Cumbria, framed by rolling hills, exposed stonework and beams, and offering off-road parking for four cars.

Step inside to an inviting open-plan living space, where underfloor heating and the sweep of exposed timbers give the room a warm, characterful feel.

The kitchen area is well laid out for group meals, allowing the chef to stay part of the conversation while others gather around the dining table or settle in the sitting area to admire glimpses of those rural views.

Sleeping up to eight guests, the property offers a thoughtful bedroom layout.

A ground-floor king-size with en-suite wet room is a practical option for those who prefer to avoid stairs, while the first-floor king-size with en-suite walk-in shower, a double, and a twin room provide flexible sleeping for families or friends.

A family bathroom and cloakroom mean there is plenty of space for everyone to get ready for the day.

The nearest shop and pub are around 3.3 miles away in Sedbergh, where bookshops, cafés, and riverside strolls provide gentle days out and easy lunches.

Venture to Kendal to explore its castle ruins, riverside paths, and arts venues, or browse independent shops before heading back to the hills.

For a different flavour, Kirkby Lonsdale tempts with its historic market square, the famous Devil’s Bridge, and meadows beside the River Lune that invite picnics and leisurely walks.

With sweeping rural scenery on the doorstep and characterful Cumbrian towns within reach, New Barn Conversion sets the scene for a memorable group escape.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £350.

SEDBERGH

Kendal 11.5 miles; Kirkby Lonsdale 11.8 miles, Hawes 15.8 miles.

The attractive old market town of Sedbergh (pronounced Sed-Ber), with its old-world atmosphere, is not only set in the magnificent western dales of the Yorkshire Dales National Park but is also close to the rugged eastern fells of the Lake District. The town, with its narrow streets, little shops, traditional pubs, famous school dating back to 1525 and its 12th century church, has been a thriving community for hundreds of years, with a market dating from the 13th Century. Leading from Sedbergh is Dentdale, the jewel of the Yorkshire Dales with its rolling hills and dry-stone walls, stretching 14 miles from the windswept moors below Whernside to the confluence of the Rivers Dee and Rawthey. At the centre of the dale is Dent, with its cobbled streets, which has existed since Norman times and nearby Dent railway station is on the renowned Settle-Carlisle railway line. There are three golf courses nearby, as well as tennis, riding, and fishing, and the area is a paradise for walkers, ramblers, runners, and cyclists. This, together with the tranquillity of the surrounding valleys, the two National Parks and it being England's book town, makes an ideal year-round holiday destination.
