  • "Overall a very nice cottage, some might say a bit dated but it fits perfectly into the surrounding area."

Very comfortable and clean. It's location was perfect for our needs.

  • "The cottage was lovely & had everything for a stay."

However the sofas were leather which were actually cold & also we kept sliding to middle of sofa when sitting on them. The tv was actually very small for the room & was not a smart tv so we were limited to the freeview channels available which are rubbish. If it had been a smart tv we could have accessed Netflix & prime etc. Although the area is described as dog friendly we actually it wasn’t that friendly. We found a lovely walk across fields with public footpaths but all the fields had either sheep or cows in meaning we had to keep our dog on a lead not so good for him as he couldn’t get a good run. The nearest takeaways were in Leyburn & we tried both the Indian & Chinese both were horrible & ended up with pizza from the co op but this isn’t a reflection on the cottage. The next door cottage also booked but we didn’t hear any noise from them so that was good.

  • "Overall very nice place to stay with great pub in village."

Sky sports and TV super. Very clean and well maintained with en suites in every bedroom . Property all on ground floor level so ideal for people with mobility issues. A hair dryer would be good also. However overall a great part of the world in easy access.

  • "We really enjoyed our stay at Pencroft."

It's a very roomy, spacious accommodation with a nice garden area for sitting and enjoying the nice weather. Kitchen is well equipped. Our one slight complaint were the mattresses were too firm for us all. However,we really enjoyed our stay and the village of Caperby is lovely, with the Wheatsheaf Inn only a five minute walk away. I would recommend booking a table if you want to eat there as it is very popular. Also recommend visiting the town of Hawes and Bolton Castle is really worth the money to visit. The accommodation has lots of recommendations for things to do in their file as well as lots of leaflets so you can find something for everyone around the area.

  • "Clean, spacious, comfortable and homely cottage."

Well equipped, all rooms on ground floor level, set in a quiet area, however, close to tourist attractions/other villages. Beautiful views near the cottage. Would highly recommend.

It had everything we needed, is in a great location with a choice of fabulous walks and a very nice village pub just down the road. The three bathrooms were also a bonus. We would definitely stay here again.

  • "There was a slight odour of Dogs in the bedroom next to the kitchen but it wasnt unbearable."

We had to shuffle the sideboard around to be able to sit at the dining table as it was much better possitioned off to side so we could all sit comfortably & there is only sofa space for 5 adults so one of us had to sit on a dining chair for the week in the evening. Unfortunatley we had no hot water in one of the ensuite rooms & kitchen for 2 days ( 2 other bedrooms still did so we managed) & the caretaker was fast to respond & a plumber repaired it during our stay. Having said that, the Cottage had all the basic facilities we needed, beds were comfortable & we had a great time & for the price over a bank holiday it was a great cottage.

  • "A lovely spacious and well equipped character cottage in a great location for both walking or relaxing."

En suite bathrooms was a plus, as was the friendly village pub serving great food and beer. Very likely to rebook when next in the same area.

  • "We had a nice stay in a very lovely cottage that was very clean, easy to live in and well kitted out with comfy sofas and beds."

Fantastic views and a woodpecker somewhere in the trees, lots of great pubs close by, lovely surrounding villages for walks. Easy parking on site but strangely there is no property sign from the road which made it difficult finding it the first time. Ground floor is easy for less mobile people but not 100% suitable for wheelchair users unless they can also get out and walk a bit as you can't get wheelchairs 'fully' around the bedrooms, bathrooms or kitchen without moving furniture. If you can walk a bit too then there shouldn't be any issues at all. We felt the property needed some usual little extras that normally come with self-catering properties – a welcome pack or at least a pint of milk, Visitor signing book for recommendations, some tourist information leaflets and maps for walks etc and just a small supply of games, books and jigsaws etc would be appreciated. Overall it was a lovely property and its best feature to us was that it was very comfortable and we all slept really well.

Beautiful cottage in a great location, full of character and spotlessly clean. Plenty of space for the whole family and cosy warm bedrooms. Plenty of lovely walks straight outside your door. We really enjoyed the stay and wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

  • "Very spacious accommodation."

Unfortunately there was a strong smell of dogs which the air fresheners could not mask. The twin bedded room was very cold and the bedroom with ensuite bath smelt awful. My husband dropped and smashed a glass container on the hard floor just inside the lounge door and when cleaning up the mess it became clear that the floor had not been cleaned properly in some time. My fingers stuck to the cooker hood it was so greasy. On our first evening the smoke detector started to chirp ..so we took out the battery and reported the problem. We were told a new battery would be provided . There was a lovely large dining table with a heat protector but no tablecloth.! The storage heaters were very efficient once we had worked out how to use them. Despite these drawbacks the cottage is in a peaceful setting well placed for visiting points of interest and we enjoyed our holiday.

CARPERBY

Aysgarth 1.6 mile; Castle Bolton 3.2 miles; Leyburn 8.3 miles.

This idyllic Wensleydale village is situated in a walker’s paradise, close to Castle Bolton, Bolton Hall, Leyburn and the famous Aysgarth Falls. During the 17th century, Carperby was an important centre for Quakerism and the largest building today is the classically styled Friends Meeting House which overlooks the market cross and village green. The popular village pub serves good food and an excellent range of real ales and is the main focal point of village life. Nearby, Redmire is on the Wensleydale Railway, which features steam locomotives during the summer and has regular special events. This is an ideal location for walking and touring the many attractions of Wensleydale and Swaledale - nearby are the historic Richmond and Middleham, as well as the attractive market towns of Bedale and Leyburn. There are numerous restaurants and award-winning pubs too, and nearby attractions include Fountains Abbey, Wensleydale Creamery and Rope Factory and the thrilling Lightwater Valley. The nearest town, Leyburn, is dominated by its large market square, which still boasts a lively Friday market. The town has much to offer with its many craft shops, galleries and tea rooms. Also within easy reach are many other attractions, notably the Constable Burton Hall and Gardens with extensive parkland and woodland walks, the Forbidden Corner with its underground passages to explore, and of course the lovely Georgian town of Richmond with its fine castle ruins. Visit Bolton Castle, with its mighty towers and rectangular courtyard, one of the finest preserved medieval castles in Yorkshire. Dating back to 1378, much of the castle survived the orders to destroy famous Yorkshire castles, issued by Parliament in The Civil War. It is also located perfectly for cycling; the famous opening stages of the 2014 Tour de France passed just over a mile away. For the adventurous, mountain biking routes run from the door, over Preston moor and into wild Swaledale.
