Cottage in a good location for visiting all local attractions . We would probably return if visiting the area again.

Easy access to the canal with good walks, we saw two kingfishers on the canal banks.

  • "Just stayed in this wonderful place."

Lovely house, very comfortable with all the amenities that you could want. Not exactly the most quiet place as the road outside is quite busy but didn't spoil our holiday. The canal is just outside the door and was full of walkers, joggers and barges all day etc. The surrounding countryside is equally as wonderful. I would 100% recommend this cottage. .

Thank you so much for your 5* review. We're so glad you enjoyed your stay, although very surprised that the lane has been busy, especially as guests usually comment on how quiet it is. We did notice on Friday when we were doing the changeover that a road lower down in the village was closed with a diversion in place which could have resulted in more traffic past the house temporarily, which is unfortunate. Still, we're very glad that it did not spoil your stay and hope the village is back to it's normal quiet self next time you visit. Best wishes, Tricia and Andy Property Owner

  • "The cottage is immaculate and the welcome pack is the best I have seen in 15 ..."

The cottage is immaculate and the welcome pack is the best I have seen in 15 years of doing these holidays My only downside is the lack of an extractor fan in the bathroom ,and the towels took a while to dry even with the window open ,which was permenantly open (not good in cold weather ) I realise the walls are very thick ,but it is do-able via the window

Thanks so much for your 5* review which is greatly appreciated. We realise there can be an issue with drying towels indoors at certain times, especially if the heating is not on, which is why we provide a freestanding heated towel rail for guest use all year round. • "A lovely compact cottage in a quiet village."

South facing Livingroom that offered a fantastic view of canal boats passing by and open countryside beyond. The welcome pack was the best that we have ever had and Tricia had thought of everything that we would need to make our stay very comfortable and relaxing. The local pub was a five minute walk and the local Asda no more than a 10 minute walk.

Thank you for taking the time to leave such positive feedback which is very much appreciated! We're really glad you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you back. Best wishes, Tricia & Andy Property Owner

  • "Lovely cozy cottage set in a peaceful, scenic village location overlooking the canal."

The cottage was very clean and well maintained. Everything is here that you need. Lots of local walks, good pubs and cafes to explore. Shops nearby in Cross Hills or short drive to Skipton or alternatively 20 minute walk along the canal to Cononley Train station where you can get to other towns or into Leeds if you prefer. Five rises lock was not too far and a lovely place to watch the canal boats negotiate the waterways. Also a local steam railway or Haworth village where the Brontë sisters came from well worth a visit. Happy to recommend this cottage, it is a lovely base and I would say offers very good accommodation.

Thank you for your positive and detailed feedback which is much appreciated and will be helpful to potential guests. We're very glad you enjoyed your stay and hope to welcome you again. Best wishes, Tricia and Andy Property Owner

  • "Canal View Cottage must surely be the nicest cottage we have ever stayed in - beautifully furnished, well equipped, spotlessly clean and with many thoughtful touches."

The owners provided lots of helpful information both in advance and in the cottage and were easily contactable by text with any queries. Although just a short distance from the main road between Keighley and Skipton the cottage's location is idyllic and peaceful, overlooking the canal and the Aire valley, with the little settlement of Kildwick with its pub, church and tearoom just a short walk away along the towpath. The nearby village of Crosshills has shops, eateries and other facilities and could be reached on foot. This part of Yorkshire offers many places of interest only a few miles away from Canal View Cottage and a week was not enough! we hope to go back

Thank you! We had a lovely stay, and could of happily stayed longer. Perfect for two, would be a squash for 3 or 4 people, especially when eating meals. The kitchen was well equipped for preparing meals. We had everything we needed during our stay. The location is good, with lovely canal walks/fishing, from the door. There is good access to main roads, and lots to see and do in the area. The pub round the corner is very friendly. The house next door is currently empty, so the property was peaceful and quiet.

  • "Everything was fine, apart from the shower which seemed to flood the floor every time in used."

which made the floor mat provided soaking wet. There needs to be a covering/door to keep the water from leaking into the floor perhaps. The front door didn’t seem to close properly without proper force when leaving the property.

Thanks for your feedback. As you may have seen, our feedback is usually excellent and you're the only guests to have had these issues so we're sorry you didn't make us aware during your stay. We're at the property every week for change-overs and there's no apparent problem with the front door which is the type where you fully lift the handle to lock. Re the shower, as with all walk-in showers, it has no door so a little care does need to be taken, especially if using the detachable head. Property Owner

About the location

FARNHILL

Skipton 4 miles; Harrogate 22 miles.

The attractive village of Farnhill lies in the Aire Valley, alongside the Leeds to Liverpool canal, just four miles south of Skipton. The village's 17th century heritage is still visible in some of the buildings, with an even greater number remaining from the village’s heyday as a 19th century centre for hand loom weaving and lead mining. Farnhill is home to an excellent local pub, and the village is within walking distance of Cross Hills where a number of old pubs, shops and good restaurants can be found, while the nearby mainline railway station has good links to Leeds, Skipton and the famous Settle-Carlisle Railway line. Nearby Skipton, known as "The Gateway to the Dales", has an ancient castle, a beautiful old parish church and a colourful market occupying the cobbled ‘setts’ each side of the high street. Enjoy a canal trip on a traditional barge or visit Embsay Steam Railway, which has regular steam train excursions at the weekend.
