  • "We have had a wonderful time at ‘The Old Shippon Mews’."

Is not often that the property actually surpasses the pictures when you booked a place. The Cottage was absolutely lovely, the facilities were very good and it had the most comfortable beds you can dream off! We can 100% recommended this place and can’t wait to come back again!

This is the third time we’ve stayed in these beautiful properties. We had a fabulous stay yet again. Luxury that you can enjoy with the children. Great location, close to lots of walks. Thanks to Emma for all the lovely touches for us and the children that made this a lovely stay again.

All finished to a high standard and very well equipped. I would recommend without reservation.

  • "Lovely property and location - easy access to the Dales and Skipton."

Liked the welcome tray with bubbles. Only suggestion would be having a drying rack stored somewhere for use if caught out in rain and need to dry clothes. Will happily return to this property!

Didn’t use ‘the secret garden’ as shaded by trees but that didn’t stop us moving the chairs chasing the sunshine

  • "We really enjoyed our stay at Shippon Mews."

The property is beautiful and had everything to make our stay so comfortable and make it feel like our home for the week (I wish it was). It is in a lovely peaceful rural location but with amenities within a 10 minute walk away or 20 minutes in the car if you wanted to go further to Skipton which has a large Tesco and a good range of shope and restaurants. There are walks from the doorstep and if you do go further afield it is so lovely to come back to Shippon Mews. It has a lovely brand new kitchen where you can comfortably cook a meal and then relax in front of the log fire, ideal for us as we don't feel comfortable eating out at the moment. If you do, however, there are some nice pubs only a short drive away. I would definitely recommend to anyone who likes a character property in a rural setting with a lovely contemporary feel.

  • "The cottage is lovely and well decorated with quality fixtures and fittings."

I’d happily live at the Shippon Mews and the Prosecco on arrival was a lovely gesture that exceeded my expectations. It’s in a lovely scenic spot close to lovely walks and a nice local pub, the Emmott Arms. Emma was easily contactable and friendly. My only suggestions would be to have a washing machine for those that stay for a week, a normal sized ironing board and a small dressing table in the main room would be fab. The floor did need sweeping on arrival between the kitchen and living area but everything outweighed this. The blue sofa could do with freshening up a little. But overall we really like it just had a couple of recommendations. I have already started recommending this place to people and would live to have seen the Old Shippon cottage next door as it had great views from the garden. I loved the surprise that we had access to a small courtyard area too-lovely touch for sunny days. Definitely worth a stay and very close to the Yorkshire Dales via car.

  • "We booked this pretty much last minute as we really just wanted a weekend away and a change of scenery after all this covid 19 madness."

And we could not have been happier with what we got. What a wonderful place to stay, we were greeted with a lovely note and bottle of wine on arrival and Emma came to chat to us as we arrived and was extremely friendly and helpful. The house was amazing, so relaxing and it a really peaceful location. Great places to go for walks, and shops close enough for a short drive or a little walk. Also a nice pub called the bay horse we could walk to for a drink. And some takeaways close enough for delivery if you don’t want to cook. We would definitely book again for a relaxing weekend away. We loved it! Thank you Emma

We would recommend The Old Shippon Mews to anyone looking for a beautifully restored and maintained cottage with 5 star rating, spotless, and with peace and quiet in mind. Unfortunately the weather was even worse than had been forecast and defeated us - it really did spoil our much looked forward to break and we decided to return home early. Very disappointing. Thanks to Emma for being so understanding and good luck to her and Trevor with future bookings.

Good choice of local pubs....The Bull at Broughton serves excellent food. Our stay was over Christmas but would highly recommend for any time of the year.

About the location

COWLING

Skipton 7 miles.

The ancient village of Cowling sits across a hillside in the Pennine Hills, just seven miles from the market town of Skipton. A thriving village, built along a main high street with stone-built, terraced houses set alongside the mills of a bygone age. The village was once sparsely populated, the bulk of the population living in Ickornshaw and Middleton, and before that on Cowling Hill, close to water sources they depended on, and the main roads of the day - now used as back roads by locals to avoid the modern day traffic. In the early days, agriculture was the main occupation, with corn being grown and ground within the village. When canal transport boomed, corn became cheaper to buy from elsewhere and so the mills in Cowling turned from grinding corn to weaving during the Industrial Revolution. The village inn was once part of a farmhouse on Cowling Hill, but was sold as changes to the structure of the village began. The son of the landlord later opened the Bay Horse Hotel on the new road, which still stands as a main feature of village life. The nearby Quaker village of Lothersdale was, at one time, home to Charlotte Bronte who modelled Gateshead Hall in Jane Eyre on Stone Gappe House where she was governess. Today many visitors passing through the village are walkers, on their way along the Pennine Way on the stretch from Cowling to Gargrave. There's the large retail outlet of Boundary Mills, just six miles away, a must for lovers of shoping, and Skipton, known as 'The Gateway to the Dales' is nearby. Skipton is a lovely old market town with much to interest the enthusiastic visitor, boasting an ancient castle open to the public, a beautiful old parish church and a colourful market occupying the cobbled setts each side of the high street. In 2008 the Academy of Urbanism voted Skipton High Street the best shopping spot in Britain, and The Copper Dragon Brewery, opened in 2002 is highly rated in the CAMRA listings. Steam railways with regular excursions are available at Embsay and Bolton Abbey, and the Leeds to Liverpool Canal passes through Skipton with the one mile long Foulridge Tunnel and the 5-rise locks at Bingley within a short distance away. In 2014 the area hosted the first leg of the Tour De France, bringing in many visitors from far and wide to this wonderful area.
