The Snape Castle Holiday Homes consist of a stunning selection of three properties resting in Snape near Bedale, a quaint town in North Yorkshire. These retreats offer countryside views on the amazing grounds of Snape Castle, making it suited to families, groups of friends, and couples. With a rich history and the castle owner on-hand to provide expertise and guidance should you wish, this collection offers a truly special escape. The grounds are home to the original 14th-century spiral staircase that Catherine Parr used; Catherine Parr was Queen of England and Ireland as the last of the six wives of King Henry VIII from their marriage on 12 July 1543 until Henry's death on 28 January 1547. Snape Castle is a Grade I-listed 15th-century, historic Tudor castle with extensive castle grounds and gardens guests can enjoy exclusively when booking. Both Celily Neville and Queen Anne have also lived at the castle, providing a link to Richard lll; Neville being his mother and Anne his wife. Today, the castle combines historic character with all the contemporary comforts needed for a 21st-century holiday. The castle is home to Tawney and barn owls which can often be heard and seen flying from tree to tree in the evenings and also resident bats fly around the castle at dusk and plenty of pleasant country walks can be taken directly from the castle. Within easy reach of the castle are museums, cycling routes, swimming country houses and gardens open to the public, horse riding, market towns, the Wensleydale creamery, climbing, bushcraft, golf, hiking, orienteering and fishing, so you will not be left short of things to do. Venture further afield for a group day out by going to Ripon to see the exhibits at the Ripon Workhouse Museum, try out some rides at the Lightwater Valley Family Adventure Park, or take in the pretty views of the Ripon Spa Gardens. In Harmby, go for a serene walk to check out the picturesque Harmby Waterfall, visit Middleham Castle to see the remains of Richard III's childhood home, or go to The Forbidden Corner to see the walled gardens. The small market town of Bedale is steeped in history, some of which can be found in the local museum. The town also offers a weekly market on a Tuesday, interesting churches, various craft and antique shops (notably Red House), cafes, and pubs, which provide local beers and home-cooked food. There are many lovely walks for all abilities in this beautiful area, as well as delightful villages to explore. Within easy reach are many other attractions, including the Constable Burton Hall Gardens with extensive parkland and woodland walks, and Jervaulx Abbey, with its tearooms and Brymor Ice Cream, which is only a short drive away. Gardeners will enjoy the Thorp Perrow Arboretum, which also offers falconry displays, plus don't miss the weird and wonderful Forbidden Corner near Middleham! Ideally placed for exploring all of Wensleydale, Swaledale, Wharfedale, and the magical city of York, less than an hour away.
