  • "Very cosy, warm and comfortable lodge with everything we needed for our stay."

Quiet and peaceful location in a beautiful area. We managed to dodge the heavy showers of rain but the steps of the lodge became very slippery, which is why I marked down maintenance. We had two people with mobility problems and a non slip coating on the steps would have made a big difference. Otherwise we thoroughly enjoyed our break and would return.

  • "Despite the floors having been mopped, they were dirty and we had to sweep them."

Work surfaces and the fridge door all had marks on them which we had to clean off. The toilet in the shower room was stained and needs bleach. The bedroom with the double bed smells strongly of urine. Some of the bed linen, although clean, we're stained. Would not recommend Ash Lodge as suitable to let out until properly cleaned.

Lovely places to visit in the area and it’s so beautiful. Weather was a little against us but I still managed one early morning cuppa outside on the deck Lodge was lovely and cosy rated slightly low for cleanliness as someone really needs to check underneath and behind the beds and the bottom frame of the shower needs a good clean but overall standard wasn’t too bad. It has all you need but you do need to take your own towels which you are advised of when booking (can see some people have previously mentioned this so wanted to clarify) Wouldn’t put us off visiting again our break really wasn’t long enough to be honest a lovely little find

Lovely quiet location and some fantastic places to visit nearby. Only one problem. We found the property quite dark. Even during the day. We had to have the lights on most of the time even though it was sunny outside. I hope we didn't run up too much of an electric bill. Maybe its because we're elderly and our eyesight isn't as good as it should be!! Three days were not enough though.

It was spotlessly clean when we arrived. The accommodation was roomy and well equipped with everything needed for a comfortable holiday. The TV was excellent in all rooms. Wi Fi was slow and occasionally dropped out, but was adequate given the location. It was very peaceful and there were some good walks nearby. Our dogs loved it, as did our quite fussy grandson. There is plenty to see and do in the locality... this part of North Yorkshire is beautiful! We would certainly return.

  • "Absolutely disgusting lodge."

From first walking in there it smelt so bad, the amount of dust that was around the property made it quite obvious nobody goes in to clean it between stays. There was brown marks on the walls, the plugs had been chewed and stains of the sheets. My daughter has asthma and within 30 minutes if being there it flared it up, so we had to leave. As we didn't get there until late and my son was over tired, and my daughter was coughing quite bad we left and found alternative accommodation. I contacted Sykes the next morning to let them know and request a refund as it wasn't in any state to be slept in, after contacting the owner he has refused us a refund. So over £300 wasted and 2 upset children. Do not waste your money on this place!

As always, before booking we read reviews which determines if we are going to book or not. We were concerned about having no gate on the decking as we have two small Cockapoos so thanks to previous reviews my husband put something together at home which we took with us, without this it would have been a complete nightmare, especially with a friendly chicken hanging around. We also noticed that people had complained about not having enough light in the cabin but with it being 26 degrees outside this was a bonus for us. In hot weather it was lovely and cool so wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. How to work the oven, hob and microwave is in the kitchen draw but to be fair it was easy, we had no difficulties. Will we stay again? Yes, but I’ll probably take my own bedding as it was definitely in need of replacement. We were advised that there would be no towels so another one to remember as I’m sure these could be easily forgotten. Walks - many to choose from and all lovely. These were in walking distance from the cabin. The owner is contactable at all times but a visit asking if all is okay and a hello would have been a bonus

We especially liked the surrounding wildlife with squirrels and rabbits and the odd owl or two! However, we felt the lodge could have done with some comfortable outside chairs instead of a hard bench. Also the dining chairs were very uncomfortable and 2 of the sofas had a very unpleasant smell. The beds were very comfortable but could have done with new pillows (they were flat!) and duvet covers. The ones on the single beds wouldn’t fasten at the bottom as all of the press studs were broken. If these issues were addressed it would be a top notch holiday lodge.

Full marks all round, except in the comfort rating where I deducted one point, reluctantly it has to be said. Reason, the Lodge was lovely and warm, except for our bedroom, where the heater never came on during our week stay, I did not attempt to alter any settings other than check it was connected to the electricity, which it was. We don't like a "hot" bedroom, but it is nice to go to bed in a warm room, even if the heater has turned off. Likewise its nice to get up to a warm room, even if the heater has turned itself off after warming the room a little. Maybe our ages have got something to do with it, into our seventies we like to be warm. Would we recommend this Lodge, 100% yes, it is a lovely place to be.

Charged £15.00 for bringing an additional dog????. The kitchen utensils were limited, one pot with a handle and 3 of the rest were 2 handled stew pots, no scissors to cut things open, beds were uncomfortable. No towels provided apart from a dish towel and a floor towel for stepping out of the shower. No welcome pack provided not even a small carton of milk for those arriving after a long journey. The parking facilities are poor due to the closeness of the neighbouring Pine lodge, which required the residents to reverse their two cars around the bend then continue along the driveway to permit them to turn round using another lodge residents parking area. We were even disturbed by a Television Engineer who arrived to change an aerial, of which we were never advised of. The narrow road leading to the lodges are covered in potholes over various areas although some we noticed were filled in after we arrived. Beware when using the route as you may damage your car as well as meeting tractors / other cars at blind bends with no refuge areas provided. Although the lodge itself was clean, we will not be returning as it's not adequate for domestic animals.

  • "Pet tolerant at best!"

First impressions were great. Nice and off the beaten track and secluded so we thought it would be nice and relaxing with our 3 dogs. On entering the property were welcomed with a sign saying ‘ welcome to your pet friendly holiday’ (or words to that effect) followed by an extensive list of what and where they dogs were not allowed to do or go; not in the bedrooms, not on the furniture. Answer me this, if they are not allowed in the bedrooms, they have to remain in the living room? So how do we keep them off the furniture while asleep behind a closed door? Not allowed to toilet on the site. Really? I can understand making sure we clean up, which we did, but how do I tell my elderly dog to cross his legs for 150-200 yards to the allowable road for toileting in the pitch black when he is in and out every few hours? Not realistic at all! ‘Make sure property is clean else a charge will be made’. Could have tried that before we got there! Had to wash ALL the cutlery, glasses, plates, pans etc at least 3 times before we could use them. Rest of property was cleaned to within an inch of its life both on arrival and departure. No towels???? That was a nice surprise after going there after two previous holiday locations where they were provided. No internet or 3G/4G so we couldn’t check the write up to see if we should have brought our own. No phone signal to ring the owner either.

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed it."

It was secluded. Only four other cabins there. Very handy for lots of places to visit. Had a wonderful day at Studley, Royal and the staff were excellent. Arranged scooters for us, and amini bus waiting for us when we left the deer park.
