  • "The site was clean, the staff friendly and helpful."

The accommodation was clean, comfortable and homely. The hot tub was clean and at a great temperature. The two times we ate food prepared at the forest retreat, the food was really tasty and fresh. The spaces surrounding the site were clearly well maintained and clearly efforts had been mate throughout to create habitats for wildlife.

  • "It's a wonderful relaxing experience, becoming one with nature."

The cabins are well equipped and clean, the beds are very comfortable and the cooking facilities excellent. There's ample space and storage and the hot tub is a nice relaxing touch. The reason I only gave 8 out of 10 is because I feel it's slightly overpriced, especially during the summer months. There are not enough offers for those families and people are lower wages so not everyone is able to afford the pleasure of staying at your cabins, which is a huge shame. The on-site facilities although good, could be better including longer opening hours and a better selection of food items to both order from the cafe and purchase from the shop. I've also noticed on a number of visits that the hot tub isn't always at its best and the pumps don't always work as good as they used too

Plus lodge was next to pathway so wasn't private.

  • "We thought the lodges and site were lovely, but the shop could have offered slightly more produce and less gifts"

  • "I thought they were fantastic."

We have stayed with many companies and enterprises offering similar experiences and Forest Holidays have been the best. Staff exceptionally friendly, a lovely central base shop and information point that makes things simple, and an excellently spacious golden oak cabin with minimal clutter but quality furnishings (perfect with a 3 and 1 year old!). We had a small hiccup on the first night with our curry night but the response was fantastic!

Step inside this spacious cabin styled in earthy shades of soft fennel and muted greys, complemented by whitewashed oak furniture. Built in harmony with the surrounding forest, this cabin’s great for smaller groups and families, with plenty of space to stretch out – then take in the views with floor to ceiling windows that let the light flood in as you sit back into your comfortable corner sofa. Extra home comforts and a kitchen with all the essentials make it easy for you to relax amongst the forest, the moment you walk through the door – fire up the barbecue on the decking, curl up by the logburner or sit back under clear skies in your very own hot tub.

In a leafy setting, deep in the countryside, you’ll be in walking distance of unspoilt wildlife havens, the River Thet and, a little further afield, the epic Norfolk coastline. Under a tranquil forest canopy or picturesque woodland glade, you might glimpse red deer gather on the hilltops surrounding your cabin as dawn and dusk fall, or you might catch barn owls gliding silently across the night sky.

Discover the thriving Breckland wildlife on peaceful walks, take a leisurely cycle on the famously flat Norfolk landscape or scale the trees to see the forest from above on an epic climbing experience within the forest.

In the forest, book a range of Forest Ranger activities that will help you connect with nature and the forest around you – from Nature Tots for under-5s, to Wildlife Wonders and Survival Skills, for any age.

About the location

THORPE FOREST

Thorpe Forest is a stunning spot deep in the countryside beside the River Thet. There's unspoilt wildlife havens and the epic Norfolk coastline is not too far away. The tranquil forest is home to red deer who often gather on the hilltops, or just before dusk, catch barn owls glide silently across the sky. Head for Banham Zoo, just a 20-minute drive from Thorpe Forest, with over 2000 animals and enough exciting activities for a full day out. Start your outdoor adventures at High Lodge Visitor Centre in Thetford Forest, where you can also find the original Go Ape, for some treetop thrills. The Nutshell pub in nearby Bury St Edmunds claims the title of Britain’s smallest pub. It’s tiny, with a quirky interior and well-kept beers. Also in Bury St. Edmunds, step through the grand entrance of Harriet’s Café Tea Rooms to an elegant interior, complete with grand chandeliers and soothing piano music on selected afternoons.
