The latter is Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal, close to Ripon and renowned to be the finest Cistercian monastic ruin in Europe, with Georgian water gardens featuring ornate statues and follies. Tour the cellars and sample all kinds of fruity delights at Yorkshire Country Wines. Or check out some amazing natural sights like Brimham Rocks and How Stean Gorge or 'Little Switzerland'.
Capital of Nidderdale is Pateley Bridge, a lovely market town awash with welcoming pubs and tearooms and speciality shops. Visit the Nidderdale Museum, catch a show at the local playhouse, or celebrate all things rural at the Nidderdale Agricultural Show.
