  • "We had a lovely week at Pollard Cottage."

It is a lovely village and the cottage is very comfortable. The pub next door is excellent and very friendly. We had a couple of small problems but they did not spoil our stay and we would love to go back again in the future. Our dog loved it too!

  • "Pollard Cottage is in a lovely location and a few minor improvements would have lifted our star rating."

On arrival we found the toilet flush to be broken (we took the cistern lid off to operate the flush when we were there and reported to the owner). The heated towel rail didn’t work so the shower room was chilly (this has previously been mentioned in a 2021 review!). The porch light didn’t work although it did flash a couple of times and the outside lights at the back were not working. The sofa in the living room is not as shown in the photos and is a little tired. The recliner armchair is better. The online photos need to be updated. The kitchen is modern and well equipped but a couple of little extras that would be useful are a small milk pan (the two pans in the cupboard are very large) and a baking tray for the oven. Despite these comments we did enjoy our week in Yorkshire.

Furniture very dated and smelt of dogs needed a deep clean. Stains on double bedroom carpet. Dog poo outside under shrub top right.

  • "Had a great week at Pollard Cottage, perfect location for getting around North Yorkshire."

Village is lovely... friendly people and an excellent pub, no other facilities in the village itself (so make sure you have everything you need) but Bedale just a short 5-10 minute drive away along with other market towns in each direction. Cottage had everything we needed, spacious and clean kitchen, comfy bed, reclining armchair, hot and powerful shower plus a fully enclosed rear garden for our dog meaning we could leave the door open and know she was safe. Plus added bonus was opportunity to watch/hear the military jets and helicopters regularly passing overhead from the garden. No hesitation to recommend Pollard Cottage - already have!

It was very cosy, clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. A perfect base to explore the beautiful area. Had a trip to Richmond and enjoyed a walk along the riverside. Good food at the pub next door and staff were very friendly. Would definitely recommend the cottage to family and friends. Thank you

Comfortable beds and well equipped kitchen. Could do with some over-door hangers in small bedroom for clothes/towels. Food at pub next door is excellent (particularly takeaway fish and chips on our first night) and there was no disturbance from the pub whatsoever.

We had an issue with hot water which was sorted out very quickly. A small welcome pack with basic item in like milk, bread marg tea and coffe would be nice as there is no shop in the village. The only negative would be that the furniture in the the living room is not the same as the pictures. Did not find the sofa very comfortable. On whole we would recommend this cottage to others

My only advice would be to have a few small pans in the cupboard and a little cafetière. I took my own filter coffee but nothing to make it in. The pub food next door is excellent and not noisy like you would think. Really enjoyed the holiday and would definitely go back

Second time we have been there. Set in a pretty, quiet and friendly village within striking distance of all the attractions of North Yorkshire. Comfortable and cosy. The owner Kevin, provided plenty of logs for the woodburning stove to keep out the evening chills. Excellent walled garden which provided a secure place for our dog. No village shop but a selection of supermarkets only a few miles away Situated next door to an excellent dog friendly pub with great ales and tasty food. Even provides fish and chip takeaway on Fridays!

The only disappointment that I found was that you clearly state no smoking at the property and on entry there was a very potent Air freshener and I could not have this on as it makes me cough, and it was then very obvious that previous customers at some point had smoked. Including the bedroom which was a shame. Having said this we spent a lot of time sightseeing so didn't allow this to spoil the holiday.

The owners had left everything you would need out for us... The only thing was the sofa it wasn't very comfortable I couldn't get up out of it. The little things like teatowels cleaning stuff all was there for us to use. The lovely kitchen was very practical and a washer...very useful as our clothes muddy due to wet weather... We had a lovely chill out time in the cottage, just what we needed. Northallerton Darlington were visited not far away. The pub next door does lovely meals, dog friendly we went there The first night. Our dog was chilled and fell asleep under the radiator... If the weather had been better we would have done more visiting Masham Ripon not so far away. Will do this next time ... I would highly recommend this cottage. Thank you to the owners we had a very nice stay.

The log fire was a lovely touch, even in June we made sure we made use of it. Our only issue we found was the shower wouldn't get very warm and had low water pressure but this wasn't enough to make much difference to our overall stay. We wish we had booked to stay longer as we didn't want to come home, really hope we can come back again.

This thriving town boasts market days on Wednesdays and Saturdays, when both sides of the High Street are home to stalls selling a wide range of goods and produce, plus on the fourth Wednesday of the month the market is joined by a farmers' market.
