  • "Cosy cottage with everything provided for a lovely peaceful holiday."

Comfy sofas and warm rooms, tucked away for privacy and plenty of walks within striking distance. We saw red squirrels and other wildlife, visited Plas (National Trust) and places along the coast including Red Wharf Bay, and Beaumaris. Owners friendly and welcoming, thank for a great stay.

The cottage is set in peaceful surroundings and is ideal for anyone who likes a quiet life. The red squirrels didn't appear in the garden this year during our stay but very often visit. Red Wharfe Bay is just a short walk down the lane, our idea of heaven and my little dog loves it to.

On arrival we were greeted by Alison, Neil and Hilda (their dog) and made to feel very welcome. The cottage is beautiful and well equipped. The little extras were very thoughtful and a lovely surprise. In a great location for exploring Anglesey. Only 10/15 min walk to the beach which our dog Sasha loved.

We arrived to a very friendly welcome from the owners, after already receiving an informative email from them a couple of days beforehand. Even though the cottage is attached to the owners property, you still have your own private space, with small sitting out area. The cottage is 10 - 15 min walk to the beach and access to woodland walks is practically on your doorstep, so it is ideal for dogs.

We thought it would have been useful to have pegs on the wall by the kitchen door, for hanging outerwear coats etc., and also on the back of bedroom doors and the bathroom for bath robes; perhaps shelves upstairs also, but realise space is a bit short. We had some lovely meals out and about, but locally would recommend The Liverpool Arms in Beaumaris, for excellent food, from a good choice of menu, and looked after by friendly and efficient staff. They welcome dogs too.

The owners live on site and are always happy to provide you with help and information should you need it. There is always a warm welcome waiting for you when you arrive from Alison and Neil and the very lovely Hilda. The cottage is always clean and tidy it has 2 bedrooms with comfortable beds and spotless bed linen, a lounge with dining area and a modern well equipped kitchen and bathroom with large bath and shower over. It is a fabulous place to unwind ,quiet and tranquil, with lots of nice walks through woodlands and the beach is close at hand .Red Squirrels can be regularly seen both in the grounds and in the area. We love it and have booked again already for 2024.

  • "On arrival we had a lovely welcome and met their dog."

The welcome pack was handy with info of where things where. The beach is a good walk down the hill with lovely views. The cottage is linked to the main house and is tucked round the back. We haven’t seen so many cobwebs in a while, which was a bit bizarre, the floors were clean, but it was like no one had bothered to look up or behind anything. They were literally hanging off every wall and ceiling. Initially we thought the kitchen was clean but All the cups and glasses were very dirty at the bottom and there were sticky finger marks over all the kitchen cupboards. I can only presume they don’t have a cleaner, there should be, I didn’t want to have to clean everything on holiday. The bathroom was clean. The double bed was unbelievably uncomfortable, and it lifted at the side to roll into the middle. The bed linen was stained to what I could only presume was purple hair dye. And the sheets felt wet I’m not sure why. The single bed was also uncomfortable and you could feel the springs. The sofa the cushions just kept falling off so wasn’t very comfortable either. We realised later it’s a pull out bed. It’s just not great to sit on. It was nice and warm. The living room was spacious. And we liked there was a washing machine too. Next door were quite loud a few times. Very late on the first night, then power tools at other times - not sure if they are renovating. Over all a nice break. Needs new beds and a good clean.

Llanddona beach, part of Red Wharf bay, is a 15 minute walk or short drive away which was ideal for walking our dog although the walk back is virtually all up hill. This is a good base for travelling to various parts of Anglesey and there is a good pub and petrol station with shop not too far away. Would definitely consider going back there sometime

  • "First trip to Anglesey and the cottage is in a lovely location."

The cottage itself is compact but comfortable. Heating is via a slightly random collection of electric heaters but rooms warm up quickly. Only downside is the lack of soundproofing between the cottage and the property that backs onto it. There are plenty of walks from the door, along the beach and coast path or in Pentraeth Forest, and lots more to explore within easy reach. Finney's fish and chips in Benllech are recommended.

No you can’t see the beach from the cottage but just walk 10 minutes down the road and there it is. Alison and Neil great hosts. The cottage is reasonably well appointed, could do with a couple of wine glasses in the kitchen and a non slip mat in the bath. The new shower is great but the bath screen leaks and carpet is not ideal in a bathroom. Personally I’d take the bath out and fit a shower cubicle. Bed was a bit hard for me but that’s just my taste. Thought the wardrobe/storage area could do with a curtain across it. Noticed no hanging storage in the single bedroom and curtains looked a bit black along the hems. For the money this is a nice little cottage. Great base for discovering the island. The Spar at the Tesco garage in Pentraeth is handy for supplies. Beaumaris has a great fish shop. We bought mussels. Gorgeous.

Also Mrs Burrows was at the property for a total of one and a half days of the whole week. Whilst we didn’t want babysitting it would have been nice to have numbers in case of any emergencie as the owners were in London. The double bedroom was just about a double with little space either side of the bed and the single was only suitable for a child - very small with no storage facilities. We struggled with the shower head on the bath. We had realised there was no 'stand up' shower but had not anticipated the struggle to adjust the temperature of the water when using the shower head. We had imaged that the cottage was nearer to the town as it was described as being 'just outside' Beau Maris. If you need a relaxing break, this is the place to come. Shops, pubs and restaurants involved a car journey but Red Wharf Bay is well worth a visit with the Ship Inn a lovely location for a drink or a meal. The entry gives the impression that the beach is pretty much next door. The guide says 5 or 10 minute walk. In reality it is down an incredibly steep and winding road. We did not attempt to walk it as the climb back up would have been too much. This made it that the car had to be used every day. Even for the local shops which required car journeys through the narrow lanes. Not very relaxing. In the cottage, the kitchen was small, cramped, was not heated and very cold. The lounge was comfortable with extra heaters provided. Upstairs was lacking a chair or stool to use when dressing or drying hair and no mirror. The bathroom has no shower and a narrow bath. Again, no fixed mirror to use for shaving, making for elaborate use of the small round one provided. What use is a mirror if it's out of the way or cannot be easily positioned. A personal welcome on arrival from the owners was a nice touch and cake and milk left in the kitchen. It won't take much to get the cottage better but prepare to use the car every day if you're not super fit.

About the location

BEAUMARIS

Menai Bridge 4 miles.

Beaumaris is a well known historic town on the Isle of Anglesey situated on the Menai Strait and overlooking the Snowdonia mountain range, making for the most stunning of sunrises. With its medieval castle (now a World Heritage site) dating back to the reign of Edward I and its Victorian pier, gaol and courthouse, it is also known as a major centre for yachting. Beaumaris is rich in history and retains much of its medieval street pattern. It’s setting, diversity of architectural styles and periods, differing scale, open spaces, varying roofs and overall quality contribute greatly to the town’s character. There is a good selection of shops, restaurants and public houses, as well as fishing opportunities and boat trips in the town, plus a golf course nearby. Along the coast is a large bay called Red Wharf Bay; its Welsh name is Traeth Coch (Red Beach) and the area is renowned for its glorious sunsets.
