  • "Probably 1st Sykes property we’ve stayed at that doesn’t give a welcome pack (milk/tea coffee sachets biscuits) makes such a difference."

    Our requests for high chair was there, but the beds were separated not as super king bed (my husband is 6’8” and 18st) so a week in single bed not comfy., even though we had a confirmation of the request . The dishwasher had no salt, there were cobwebs around the property and the electrical items PAT test stickers were dated last May 2025 thought in rented holiday accommodation they had to be done every year. The dining table is still sticky. Patio door sticks at the bottom and very hard to close. Big chunk of enamel missing in the bath. We had to call Sykes as there was a problem with ants all over one of the outside bins. So unusual not to have a local contact as waited around 15 minutes for my call to be answered. It was all in all a very disappointing

  • "Lovely house, great location."

    We had a brilliant stay and have booked for next year! Well equipped, had everything we needed including basics like hand soap, washing up liquid and sponges! Only suggestions would be to consider bedding on main bed as sheet and mattress protector kept coming off. The dining table was really sticky despite cleaning down multiple times.

  • "I’ve stayed at Curlew many times and found it to be a really comfortable bungalow."

    It’s good that it’s been updated over the years either the furniture and mattresses to kitchen equipment. We’ve now moved on to somewhere else as the price has increased significantly with the new letting agents. Though it was reduced after we had found somewhere else

  • "Wonderful accommodation in a brilliant location."

    The bungalow is really spacious, comfortable and well equipped. The large garden was really secure for our dog and is private and beautifully maintained. Rock is absolutely lovely and is also a great base from which to explore Padstow, Port Isaac and Newquay. We were also very lucky to have amazing weather all week. A really lovely holiday, thank you so much.

  • "We have stayed at Curlew on numerous occasions since 2013 and find it well suited to the composition of our party."

    It is comfortable, well equipped and maintained, clean and set in a quiet cul de sac. So it offers everything we want from a holiday rental. We particularly like the fact it is close to the footpath to Porthilly Cove , as well as near to the shops in Rock. Having an EV charger installed now makes it even more appealing. I have to say that dealing with Sykes has not been as easy or reliable as it used to be contacting the John Bray office in Rock (pre Sykes) in terms of checking or sorting out matters pre holiday (eg bed configuration; asking to be sent EV charging instructions in advance), but that is a minor inconvenience.

  • "Another enjoyable two week stay at Curlew."

    Lovely accommodation, well equipped kitchen and safe enclosed garden. An additional recliner chair for the garden would be nice. Hope to be back again next year!

  • "Our accommodation was in a lovely part of Cornwall."

    Set in a residential area with local school just down the road. You would not know that you were in either. It was so peaceful. We didn’t see or hear any children. Lovely walk to the ferry over to Padstow and a great pub, The Pityme Inn, was also a good stroll down the road with great food. Overall our accommodation was good but the sofas needed a good clean as covered in stains. Bedding was nice and the towels were of good quality. The accommodation had everything needed for our holiday.

  • "Beds un comfortable double sheet on king size bed mattress very worn bitty every where looking tired stayed 2 weeks didn’t."

    Get clean or bed change after 1st week could not use heating as had code on it so was cold some evenings but then it would come on in middle of night steps to front door a hazard no hand rail

    We are sorry that you had a number of issues whilst staying at Curlew. The mattresses were all replaced a couple of years ago with high quality replacements. If the sheets are looking a bit tired we will replace them over the winter. As we made you aware, we were unable to organise a mid-stay clean / laundry change as you only requested this, after working hours, on the mid Thursday. The heating is available all year 24/7 and can be turned up to 22.5 deg C but, as per the house instructions, it is provided by an Air Source Heat Pump and it does take time to react. We will look at providing a hand rail outside the front door this winter, even though the steps are very gentle. Denis and Hilary Property Owner

Curlew is a homely, well-equipped holiday bungalow set in the corner of a quiet, secluded residential area of Rock, Cornwall.

Within walking distance of Rock village shops and close to the public footpath leading to serene Porthilly cove on the north Cornwall coast, thus self-catering property sleeps six guests, making it a perfect base for a family holiday by the Cornish coast.

The landscaped and well-planted garden has two patio areas, perfect for relaxing in and soaking up the sunshine while your children play on the level lawn - ideal for garden games, or the family dog.

Store damp wetsuits, beach kit such as surf boards or kayaks in the adjacent garage.

Rock is a desirable and much sought after coastal village located on the north eastern bank of the River Camel opposite the famous harbour town of Padstow which is easily reached by a regular ferry service. The summer home of royalty and celebrities offering top class restaurants and quality shops, the real draw is the array of watersports including sailing, water skiing, windsurfing and angling. Continuing on a sporting theme, the golf course at nearby St Enodoc is considered to be one of the best in the country. With an abundance of world class beaches all within a short radius it is easy to see why Rock holds its popularity.
