  • “Having rented other apartments via CB Holidays on a few previous visits to the area, we had high expectations of the standard of accommodation this time.”

However, there were numerous, frustrating issues on this visit, starting with the fact that we were not provided with a code for the entry barrier when we arrived. We had no phone number for the housekeeper but fortunately another tenant let us in. As things transpired there is no barrier on the exit and we saw visitors entering via the exit during our visit so the entry barrier seems pointless from a security perspective anyway. ...

Attached to each of the key rings was a “blipper” but no idea what it was for (we checked with CB Holidays and they didn’t know either). Once inside the apartment: The single beds had not been rearranged as we had requested. We could not close the bathroom door - it was catching on the floor tiles / threshold. This was a nuisance but would have been more of an inconvenience if we had been in a party of four. One of the two down lights in the en suite wasn’t working and there were no spare bulbs in the box. One of the lights above the vanity unit in the en-suite was not working and changing the bulb made no difference. The overall lack of lighting made the room extremely dingy. The electric towel radiator in the en suite did not work. There were also lots of cobwebs in the en suite that perhaps full lighting would have shown up better to the housekeeper! We stopped using the en suite altogether (the shower is tiny anyway). The drawers in the bedside table between the twin beds opened of their own accord and would not stay closed. There was a safe, but no key. Perhaps this is not available to guests. The “sea view” is a bit of a stretch over the one side of the balcony and not worth the effort. On the positives, the apartment when fully functional, is very nice and the central location above Porthminster Beach is superb and in easy walking distance to St Ives and Carbis Bay. Just a bit disappointing this time, I am afraid.
