  • "The cottage was a beautiful position."

    The beds were clean and comfortable. The cottage itself could do with some maintenance, and a decent clean. The hot tap in the kitchen didn’t work, a dribble but that’s it. The bathroom was quite dirty and all around the kitchen sink was filthy, same with the washing machine. Also had to unload the dishwasher and put away. Although the cottage had everything you need and was comfortable, the large kitchen table was lovely for meals. To be honest I don’t want anything to be to precious about with children on holiday.

  • "What a lovely property and so convenient for central Port Isaac."

    The house was toasty warm despite high winds over the New Year period. Was a bit of a shock driving a 2.0m wide car through a 1.8m width restriction to reach the dedicated parking, which in itself was much appreciated. One of the party left their packing behind and this was handled with sympathy and professionalism by the team.

    Glad you had a lovely time at the cottage - it's a wild time of the year to experience being so close to the harbour. I sympathise re the width/shape of parking spaces but I'm afraid in spite of trying, the car park owner doesn't want to increase the size as it would reduce the number of spaces and therefore his income. Over the years I have got better at parking my large estate in the space. At least I got him to repaint the white markings which had nearly rubbed off and this has improved the situation.   • "A lovely stay and lovely cottage ."

    All positive except the promise at the top of the write up for a welcome hamper in bold. On arrival there was nothing , a bit disappointing as I had driven for 5 hrs and got there after 10 pm but not too big a deal. When I called to query this the response was very poor. I didn't want to cause a fuss but I was left frustrated by the call handlers response : 'Oh we don't do that anymore and can you call into the John Bray office and ask them to update the website ' ! ( I am not an employee ) . I now realise John Bray has been taken over by another company and never had any problems with John Bray in the past .

    Thank you for your very positive feedback on our cottage in spite of the missing welcome hamper. This was an administrative error from Sykes who I understand have now contacted you directly to address the failure. I have now had an assurance that this won't happen again and I can only apologise for your disappointment. We introduced these hampers for precisely the reason you say - long journeys and late arrivals. I would much rather know about issues that I can fix so I'm very grateful to you for taking the time to explain. I hope you can stay at St Samson again - this time with a welcome hamper!   • "Been here quite a few times now , love the location , the cottage is great for a family lots of space downstairs, a bit quirky but that’s why I love the whole experience ."

  • "The cottage was very comfortable and well located."

    It advertised a DVD but none found. No cleaning goods. No salt and pepper. No hair dryer. No welcome pack. No useful hints about the cottage. The letter about our departure was like a schoolmaster talking to naughty children. I would not speak to my tenants in that tone. Shame because the cottage was good. Unfortunately unable to recommend to our friends.

The DVD player has since been removed from the listing and we apologise for the inconvenience caused by this. Our Housekeeping Team have been informed of the missing information folder, which is usually present, and will be replaced along with restocking the cleaning products. As the property is self-catering salt, pepper & a hair dryer are not guaranteed to be provided and should be brought along with you if desired. The letter is an automated email reminder sent out on departure highlighting the guidelines as to how the property should be left, however, we apologise if you found the wording to be abrupt as this is not intended.   • "It is a beautiful and perfectly positioned holiday let in an idyllic location."

    The cottage was ideal for dog owners and we all had a lovely relaxing holiday. The information folder was invaluable but the only error was the Wifi password in the folder was incorrect but was easily found on the rear of the wifi hub in the living room. The parking space and information sent prior to arriving allayed any worries on that front as parking etc is a premium in this location. It is a wonderful place and a beautiful cottage getaway. Thank you.

  • "Lovely cottage in the heart of the village made even better by the parking space up the hill."

    Comfy beds and sofas and lots on the tv. Like a home from home. Constructive feedback would be maybe supply a few basics like tea, coffee and milk as it is a fair way to the co-op up the hill! I would love to know more history of this quaint fisherman's cottage which used to have a pub next door!

The property

St Samson is a seaside haven for a couple or small family, looking for a quaint, characterful, and coastal-themed retreat in Port Isaac on the North Cornwall coastline.

Positioned just a few steps from Port Isaac’s harbour, this 400-year-old former fisherman’s cottage over three floors contains period features and provides traditionally furnished and styled accommodation for four.

After admiring the property’s unique and charming exterior, enter the ground floor to find an open-plan room with a kitchen, dining and sitting area with wonderful, exposed beams – the perfect place for socialising together after a day at the beach.

On the first floor is a separate sitting room for relaxing evenings in front of the Smart TV, as well as a double bedroom and family bathroom.

Built into the eaves on the second floor is a twin bedroom– with no door and limited head room, this is a snug, fun space for children to sleep!

Head down the road to ‘The Platt’ where in the summer months you can enjoy listening to the famed Fisherman’s Friends sing live on the quayside, or why not walk along the cliffs to nearby Port Gaverne, with its crystal-clear waters perfect for kayaking.

Within a short walk of St Samson are many fabulous restaurants, including two ran by celebrity chef Nathan Outlaw, meaning you will never be short of places to dine, particularly if you love seafood!

Further afield, Newquay with its surfing opportunities and zoo is just a scenic drive away, whilst the Camel Trail, which runs alongside the Camel Estuary and is popular with cyclists, starts at Wadebridge 8 miles away; why not hire bikes and follow the trail all the way to Padstow?

If you are looking for a peaceful getaway in cottage near the sea, then look no further the St Samson – a fabulous bolt hole for a couple or family with children.

Port Isaac; one of the true Cornish treasures. A beautiful fishing village nestling in a steep sided valley, the old village in the valley remains unchanged from its days of fishing, slate export and smuggling in the previous century. An abundance of small character properties complemented by larger cliff-top retreats, can be found with easy access to the numerous restaurants and shops of the village. The sandy harbour provides an abundance of rock pools as the tide retreats. There is ample parking at the top of the village and the village is a popular tourist destination with plenty of attractions including the dramatic Doyden Castle, the beautiful Lundy Bay and the famous Doc Martin's clinic. There are also plenty of pubs, restaurants, and shops in the village. Just a short drive from the beaches of Polzeath, Daymer and Rock, it is perfect for romantic and family holidays alike.
