Oakham is the delightful county town of Rutland, and is a great place to visit and spend a holiday. It is filled with pretty stone and thatched buildings and offers something for everyone, it's a great family holiday destination. The town centre offers a good range of shops, restaurants and bars to choose from as well as a local history museum, a 12th century castle and a 14th century church adding real character and beauty. To the outskirts of the town sits one of the largest man-made lakes in Europe in the Rutland Water Nature Reserve which offers watersports, a small water adventure park, a bird watching fair, sailing club and fishing facilities for you outdoor people. There is also Rutland Water Golf Course overlooking the lake. The Midlands is packed with lovely towns and cities that are worth visiting, the train station in Oakham offers access to places such as Nottingham and Leicester with their great shopping and stunning buildings.
