  • "Even though it was the hottest week of the year, we had a fabulous stay at The Granary."

We'd been warned about the steep stairs (ladder) to the bedroom so these were not a shock to us. The efficient fan was very welcome in view of the heat. Very well equipped cottage, hands-off hosts but there if you need them, and a glorious location. Only thing I'd say is that the fence round the garden is a bit low if you have a dog that can jump high!

Idyllic surroundings, very peaceful. Village pub recommended, a 5-10 minutes walk. Owners friendly and welcoming.

  • "Top quality location, house, garden and furnishings."

Nothing to complain about. Ladder to bedroom would be difficult for less agile but we didn't have a problem and it stopped the dog getting upstairs. Beautiful views and birds in garden to watch. Near Wales, Forest of Dean and River Wye, so lots of scope for outdoor activities. Conservatory/living room is the focal point of the house, so relaxing to watch the sun go down whilst sat on the sofa.

The system of booking was excellent however the help received over the phone was poor. I felt that this wasn't a service Sykes were interested in providing.

Comfortable bed and sofas. The kitchen is well thought out with everything you need to cook all types of meals, including a full sized oven and good fridge. Lounge has large glass windows so you can watch the local wildlife from the comfort of your chair.

  • "Lovely Cottage, much larger than we were expecting and I would say roomy for 2 people."

This is a super cottage and so peacful, the sunroom lounge is such a lovely qualty and a wonderful place to sit day or night when the stars are amazing. Attached to the owners home you really wouldn't have known it, apart from the friendly welcome on arrival. We had everything we needed, plenty of storage everywhere and space for walking boots, coats etc.The quality of furniture is excellent and the hard floors throughout downstairs means they are nice and clean too. Good location with plenty of places to visit and walk inc nice off road walks from the door. To be super fussy maybe the bathroom could do with a fresh paint and new flooring, especially as the shower & tiles look brand new. Will definately be returning. Good value and I can't imagine why its not 4 ticks unless it's the steps to the bedroom that are knocking it down? but actually we liked these and just added to the charm of the place.

  • "The Granary was very well appointed and very clean."

Hosts were very helpful and friendly. However we would say that the photo and description of the property does not inform you that the property is attached to the side of a large house occupied by the owners. Therefore you are very overlooked.

  • "We had a wonderful break at the Granary."

We met the owner on arrival, who was very helpful and pointed out some good information about the local area. We could walk our dog from the cottage up the lane and straight onto the Wye Valley walk. The cottage was ideally situated between Ross-on-Wye and the Forest of Dean, so we had the best of both worlds.

The scattered village of Walford lies in the beautiful Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, just two miles from the riverside town of Ross-on-Wye, on the northern edge of the Royal Forest of Dean. Ideally located to enjoy excellent walks and cycle routes with the Wye Valley Walk and Offa's Dyke Path both passing close by, as well as a traditional village pub. One mile away is Kerne Bridge village with its Grade II listed bridge, canoe launch site, fishing, a riverside picnic area, along with a shop and pub. Also the famous Goodrich Castle is situated within the nearby village of Goodrich, a perfect example of a 12th century “Marcher Castle”. Nestling amidst the village's picturesque houses are the delightful village hall, shop and two friendly pubs serving good food. The Royal Forest of Dean comprises some 27,000 acres of woodland and provides, through a network of pathways and visitor centres, a chance to explore its beauty, history and many outdoor activities. One great attraction is Symonds Yat Rock, from which the breathtaking vista takes in the meandering River Wye and the distant hills of Herefordshire and Wales. The delightful historic market town of Ross-on-Wye has timbered Tudor buildings, a striking 17th century market hall and majestic bridges, together with excellent shops, pubs and restaurants to suit all tastes. Stroll along the banks of the beautiful River Wye, take a river cruise or view the stunning countryside from a hot-air balloon! Visitors to this area can also enjoy day trips to delightful Hay-on-Wye, the Black Mountains and the scenic Brecon Beacons National Park. Also recommended is a visit to nearby Hereford with its historic cathedral, museums and a vast variety of shops and restaurants.
