  • "Amazing cottage with stunning views."

Lovely garden and conservatory where we ate most of our meals looking out over the valley. Great location close to Stroud and Nailsworth. Highly recommend this stay!

  • "First of all it’s important to say how spotlessly clean the house was."

Given the current situation regarding COVID-19, it’s easy to be apprehensive about staying away from home. I can say that this property has gone to extraordinary lengths to make sure everything is perfect for your stay. The information pack in the property made living in the cottage a doddle, we didn’t need to contact the property manager at all. The property itself has been restored to a very high spec and every room was well designed and decorated. The location is ideal as it is up a private track so there is no through traffic, but you can easily reach anywhere in the western Cotswolds and beyond. I wouldn’t think twice about booking to stay here again. The only things you need to keep in mind are:- • the stairs and steep, anyone with significant mobility issues wouldn’t find it a suitable property • we had a toddler with us, a stair gate is fitted at the top of the stairs but care should be taken at the bottom of the stairs (in the living room) to stop toddlers scrambling upstairs • I’m 6’3 and after 3 nights my lower back did start to ache a bit - many ceilings are very low! It’s part of the character of the property though and didn’t spoil my enjoyment of the cottage. Would highly recommend for families, romantic breaks, couples with one young child. The kitchen was large and well equipped for home cooking. 10/10!

  • "A very comfortable cottage with stunning views across the valley and heaps of character."

Comfortable beds, spotlessly clean and well equipped. At the end of a steep driveway, it's a very peaceful spot yet there are two pubs are just a few minutes walk away up through the wood. Lots of lovely walks in the area . We'd love to go back.

  • "Thank you so much we had a lovely break."

Everything was immaculate, lovely cottage. I will definitely be booking again

  • "The most beautiful view from the garden, looking out over the Cotswolds hills."

We were blown away by it! Make the most of the BBQ facilities in the summer months. Such a lovely setting to sit out in the evenings.

  • "A gorgeous cottage with lots of character and stunning views."

We had a lovely cosy weekend with fires (make sure you pick up enough kindling from the local supermarket) and walks through the woods (wellies necessary!) to the pub, finished off with brunch in the well set up kitchen. Be prepared to climb a very steep hill if your car can’t make it up.

  • "The cottage was very comfortable and cosy with everything we needed for a lovely weekend break."

  • "Gorgeous cosy cottage, beautiful views."

  • "Thank you so much for a wonderful stay in your fabulous cottage."

It was a beautiful warm, cosy and very clean property with views to die for! I cannot thank you enough for sending back our Chromecast so quickly after we left it behind in the property, it arrived in the post today. That is what I call a first class service! Funny thing was that we didn’t even need it as Netflix was already provided. I would like to highly recommend Character Cottages for anyone looking for a quiet and peaceful getaway.

  • "Grange Cottage is very comfortable, warm and cosy."

It is a classic Cotswolds cottage with great views over the valley opposite. The location, while up a very steep hill, was excellent - - a short walk through the wood to the fantastic Amberley Inn - - and no issue with access with our car. The log burner was a welcome addition on the cold evenings we spent there.

    DavidFeb 2020

  • "The cottage had everything you could ask for - 4 beautiful bedrooms with lovely clean bed linen and comfortable beds."

Fantastic views and a cosy log fire with idyllic walks around the area. It was very quiet and peaceful and just what we needed as four mums trying to get some relaxation time away from hectic lives and young children. We couldn’t recommend it highly enough. Thank you!

  • "Lovely cottage in a stunning location, we enjoyed the short walk to the Amberley Inn for supper."

Close to Nailsworth and Minchinhampton Common, very suitable for two generations of out family to spend the weekend.

  • "Nothing to complain about!"

Nice garden, clean, good internet speed...

  • "Lovely place to stay."

Fantastic views. Cottage up a steep hill. Pleasant walks from the cottage. Low ceilings but that's to be expected when you consider when it was built.

    MarkJul 2019

  • "Immaculately clean, spacious but full of character, light and very tastefully decorated."

High quality bedding and comfortable beds. Secluded location with far reaching views. Plenty of comfortable seating inside and out with very attractive patio area and garden. Although at the top of a very steep and hard to find lane plenty of parking once there. Easy access to get my disabled mother into the property. Plenty of hot water, very attractive, well equipped kitchen. Amazing views from 3 of the 4 bedrooms. Would definitely plan a return visit. Owner very helpful, with quick response to checking in query and very accommodating. Lovely property.

  • "Brilliant cottage, all as described!"

Even though it rained quite literally the ENTIRE stay, we didn’t really notice because the house was so nice and had everything we needed! Thank you!

  • "What a lovely place to stay!"

Four tired mums enjoyed some proper R&R in this peaceful, clean & bright cottage. Stunning views, and lovely walks in the countryside straight from the front door. The cupcakes & Prosecco left for our arrival were the perfect way to begin our break!

  • "A fabulous break away with girlfriends."

Such a beautiful place to stay. The cottage is amazing and the views were breathtaking. A very brief walk to the pub and a lovely walk to Nailsworth. Will definitely be bringing my family back.

  • "A lovely cottage with stunning views, it was spotless and cosy inside with the comfiest beds."

Really quiet and peaceful but so close to good places to visit, shops and pubs. Vicky

  • "We had a lovely time with our extended family."

Thanks for the high chair cot and baby gate. The house was very clean and welcoming and the nearby town of Nailsworth had everything we needed. Supermarkets, takeaways and restaurants and was a very pleasant walk. The cottage is in easy reach of the usual Cotswold sights and attractions. We managed the extremely steep lane and equally steep stairs inside the house. We could not enjoy the garden and patio to the full as it was too cold and wet however the views in between showers were lovely.

    ChristineApr 2018

  • "We, family of 5, stayed at the cottage for a long weekend and the accommodation exceeded our expectations!"

It’s a lovely and cosy cottage with lots of authentic touches. We received a lovely welcome and were pleasantly surprised by the delicious treats that were waiting for us upon check-in. The neighbourhood is lovely and the cottage has an amazing view. There are a few good restaurants in the neighbourhood, all in walking distance. We can definitely recommend this accommodation to others!

  • "Lovely cottage, perfect for our family."

It snowed when we were there and this added to the experience, particularly for our two young children. The snow delayed our departure as we couldn't move our vehicle. The host, Georgina, is very understanding and accommodating.

  • "The Cottage was exceptionally tidy and clean with high quality linen and kitchen ware."

The welcome note and complementary treats, fizz and milk was a very welcoming gesture. It really felt like home away from home. It was cosy and warm at all times and the log burner added to the relaxing atmosphere. The views from the Cottage is amazing. We would rent the Cottage again and we will recommend it to friends and family.

Completing the ground floor is a useful utility, offering space for storage of coats and shoes as well as containing a washer/dryer/fryer and freezer, and a cloakroom with a basin and WC.

Upstairs, you will find three welcoming bedrooms; the master is a lovely eaves room with high ceilings and exposed oak beams, containing a king-size bed, the second bedroom enjoys a sunny aspect, with views across to the Woodchester Valley Vineyard, and contains a queen size bed and the third contains a day bed set up as a single bed with a window seat, perfect for watching the sun set, with the family bathroom resting on the same floor, containing a bath with shower over.

The cottage is on the edge of the village of Amberley, which although small, has two well regarded pubs, Amberley Black Horse and The Amberley Inn as well as backing onto the National Trust common land of Minchinhampton Common, a unique 600-acre open space with far reaching views, which offers walking, kite flying and an 18-hole golf course.
