The property

Derwent Cottage is a delightful cottage nestled in the market town of Cockermouth, Cumbria.

On the outskirts of the Lake District National Park, this pet-friendly retreat is ideal for families and friends looking to explore both the surrounding countryside and the characterful towns of the region.

Pull into the parking spaces and step inside, where a welcoming hallway sets the tone for your stay.

A useful cloakroom with storage provides somewhere to tuck away coats and walking boots before moving through to the heart of the home.

The living/dining room offers a lovely setting for spending time together, whether you're sinking into the sofas with a favourite programme on the TV, settling into the armchair with a good book, or gathering around the dining table to share meals and plan the next day's adventures.

As evening draws in, the gas fire adds a warming focal point while patio doors frame views of the garden and allow light to fill the room.

Just beyond, the kitchen is thoughtfully equipped for self-catering holidays.

Prepare breakfasts before heading out to explore the fells, make packed lunches for days beside the lakes, or return to cook a family meal using the electric oven and hob.

The dishwasher helps with the clearing up while the washer/dryer keeps walking gear fresh and ready for another day outdoors.

From the sink, you can enjoy views across the pretty rear garden while taking care of the last few dishes.

Upstairs, the bright and spacious master bedroom offers a relaxing place to unwind after a day of sightseeing and benefits from a built-in wardrobe for storing belongings throughout your stay.

Also on this floor is a single (large 3 ft 6 inch) bedroom, along with the family bathroom, both a bath and walk-in shower provide options for a leisurely soak or a refreshing start to the morning.

Climb to the second floor and you'll discover a twin bedroom tucked beneath a Velux window, allowing natural light to stream inside.

This room also enjoys the added convenience of an en-suite shower room with a walk-in shower, creating a private space for guests.

Outside, the rear garden invites you to spend time in the fresh air.

Take your morning coffee out onto the patio, enjoy a leisurely lunch at the garden furniture, or relax with a drink in the evening as plans are made for the days ahead.

A shop and pub are just a short stroll away, while the nearby river provides a pleasant setting for gentle walks through Cockermouth.

Cockermouth rewards visitors with independent shops, cafés and fascinating heritage.

Discover Wordsworth House and Garden, explore the town's historic streets and admire the impressive presence of Cockermouth Castle.

A little further afield, Bassenthwaite Lake offers scenic shoreline walks, opportunities to spot wildlife and stunning fell views reflected across the water.

Keswick is another excellent destination for a day out, where visitors can wander around Derwentwater, enjoy a lake cruise and catch a performance at the Theatre by the Lake.

With welcoming living spaces, a pleasant garden and excellent access to the Lake District National Park, Derwent Cottage is a wonderful base for discovering the beauty of Cumbria.

Note- 2nd floor twin loft bedroom has sloping ceilings.

COCKERMOUTH

Bassenthwaite Lake 7 miles; Keswick 13 miles.

The small country market town of Cockermouth is situated in the quiet north-western part of the Lake District, a largely undiscovered and unspoilt area, yet only 13 miles from Keswick. The town is famous as the birthplace of both William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian (of Mutiny on the Bounty fame) and Wordsworth’s Georgian family home, on the main street, is now a popular visitor attraction, owned by the National Trust. Cockermouth offers a good variety of shops, pubs and places to eat, but (of course) the main attraction of the area is the beautiful scenery and excellent walking in the northern lakes – Bassenthwaite Lake, Ennerdale Water and Derwent Water.
