  • "What a beautiful cottage, the location is stunning, all the rooms are comfortable and well presented, and some lovely art work and a splendid array of books, having the owners personal items in the house made it feel welcoming not like other holiday homes which can feel bland and sterile in comparison."

The only suggestion I would have is that it would of been nice to have a more adequate outdoor seating given the number of guests the property can accommodate, and a more usable washing line maybe.

Thank you for your review. We agree about outdoor seating, and will be looking to solve this in the next few weeks I hope. Thanks again Property Owner

  • "What a truly wonderful cottage."

We have just spent two idyllic weeks living in the most wonderfully loved historic family home, in the most beautifully secluded setting just a stones throw from Clovelly. The house itself was perfect for our needs, having a separate self contained Annex, just a couple of steps from the main house, where family members stayed and had their own privacy and all facilities they could need. The main house is absolutely charming, a real piece of history being the original laundry for the estate. It is filled with family memories which gave us a real feel for its past. The Gardens are beautiful and very peaceful. Clovelly itself is lovely of course and only a relatively short walk through the Clovelly gardens down a wooded path. We also walked straight out of the cottage and down to the cliff path and along the coast. You can also walk left out through the farm and follow the footpaths to a lovely farm that serves a great afternoon tea. So much to see and do in the area with beautiful beaches at Bude, Instow, Duckpool, etc. RHS Rosemoor was a lovely day out and dog friendly now on certain days, and we also went to a National Trust property and had a spa day in Bude. We will definitely be back, so much more to see and such a lovely tranquil piece of history to have as a base. Thank you owners for sharing with us.

We’re so pleased you enjoyed your stay, and thank you for including all those tips for days out in the area :) Property Owner

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay at Laundry Cottage & will certainly book again."

The setting & garden was perfect & the house is very homely with lots of books & art work, there has been a lot of personal family items left in-situ by the owners which didn't distract, not for us anyway. We stayed in the main part & would have preferred a shower but it wasn't a problem. The hot water was very very hot, much too hot!

Thank you for this lovely feedback, so glad you enjoyed your stay, we hope you do come back! (We haven’t been able to cool down the hot water over the years - I know it’s very hot…!) Property Owner

  • "We had a wonderful week in Laundry Cottage and absolutely loved the location."

We felt we were staying in a secret Fairy Glen! It was private with the most beautiful gardens but actually not far from other buildings and gardens on the Clovelly Estate. We had a wonderful array of birds on the bird feeder every day and a young hare came close to the sitting room window one evening. The cottage had everything we needed and there was plenty of space for our group of five adults. The beds were comfortable and the facilities in the annexe were excellent. It was a bonus having two sitting rooms and the view from every window was perfect. We would love to return to Laundry Cottage in the future. Thank you to the owners for sharing their parent’s house with us.

Thank you so much. I love the fairy glen description. Please do return :) Property Owner

  • "Laundry Cottage is a gem!"

This is the most well equipped and delightful home.Truly a very well loved family home as opposed to just a holiday let.It is full of art and antiques and period pieces. Most comfortable beds with sumptuous linen. Well appointed bathrooms, immaculately clean too. Two sitting rooms with open fires and the most super kitchen with a dresser full of a family collection of china. Nothing missing at all. The gardens are a delight to walk through. The main house is spacious and full of interest. The annex very comfortable indeed with two modern bathrooms. The home is situated on the Clovelly estate and has easy walking access to Clovelly village, coastal path and woodland walks. An absolute joy and privilege to have stayed here and the trust that the owners have in their guests is remarkable and appreciated. Thank you so much for a wonderful few days. (Only one very small criticism is that it would be great if possible to have internet access in the annex too) Would return again in a heartbeat!

Dear Caroline, thank you so much for your lovely feedback. We have just installed wifi in the annexe and will update the guest information asap. Very pleased you enjoyed your stay and hope you will return. All the best, Laundry Cottage team! Property Owner

  • "This is by far the best holiday cottage we stayed at in the UK."

The photos don't do it justice. The cottage and the annex both have so much character! We really enjoyed all the artwork and furniture and we felt like we were transported back in time. What a trust by the owners. Not everyone would leave so many beloved personal items in a holiday let. This makes the place even more special. Everything was spotlessly clean, comfortable beds with luxurious covers. Very spacious! Perfect location! Nice walk through the woods to the local beach and the nearby village of Clovelly. We had a perfect stay and hope to return one day.

What a lovely review, thank you :) Please do come back! Property Owner

  • "We had a wonderful few days ."

The house is beautiful and location perfect. However as we were there over new year we missed champagne flutes. We also thought that as it was a holiday rental there were too many personal objects left in the house with very little empty storage space for guests. This did not effect our stay however and we had a fabulous time but might be worth thinking about for future rentals.

Thank you for your helpful review. We are very glad you had a fabulous time, that's lovely to hear. Absolutely on the champagne flutes! We will stock up :) We have left personal objects because this used to be a family home and is still used by family members; we will make sure we streamline what is left out. There are chests of drawers in each bedroom, but no hanging cupboards in the Annexe due to limited space in the bedrooms (small 17th-18th century cottage). Hangers on the backs of doors are provided, also in the hall area, along with space for boots and shoes. We will look into whether additional hanging space and/or drawers could be provided. In the evening, relax in the inviting sitting room by the warmth of the wood-burning stove, or escape into the captivating world of literature in the charming library, which also features a wood-burning stove.

The annexe offers further accommodation options, with a double bedroom, two twin bedrooms, and a single bedroom.

In the annexe there are two bathrooms, one with a bath and shower, basin, heated towel rail, and WC; the other with a walk-in shower, basin, and WC.

The annexe also features its own kitchen, providing a self-contained space for larger groups or families. Outside, the rear walled garden is the perfect place to enjoy the soft North Devon air, and there is a wooden seat on the lawn for outdoor refreshments or reading.

The larger lawn area outside the kitchen door offers a peaceful retreat, ideal for soaking up the tranquillity of the surrounding countryside.

The cottage is located about 10 minutes walk from the coastal path where there are stunning walks along the cliffs between Clovelly, Mouthmill, Shipload Bay, Hartland Point and beyond. The cottage is located a stone's throw from the coastal path and there are stunning cliff walks within ten minutes of the front door.

You can also walk straight from the cottage to the picturesque village of Clovelly in less than half an hour, winding your way through Clovelly Court gardens and woods, with wonderful views of Bideford Bay.

Discover the history of one of the 'most instagrammable' villages in the UK; walk down the steep cobbled streets and have a drink right on the quay at the Red Lion Hotel.

In the other direction (west), you can go to Brownsham woods (National Trust) in less than two hours; or drive to Hartland Point, Hartland Quay or Spekes Mill Mouth and explore the dramatic coastline of the Hartland peninsula.

Great pubs and cafes in Hartland (one of the filming locations for the BBC series 'The Night Manager'); in 20 minutes you can drive to Bideford for Victoria Park and Burton art gallery, cycling the Tarka Trail, good shopping on Mill Street (recommend the Appledore Bakery), as well as Bideford Railway Heritage Centre - and you can also explore local town Appledore for family activities like crabbing, or a visit to the Maritime Museum.

Drive a little further to enjoy some beautiful gardens at Tapeley Park, RHS Rosemoor and Marwood Hill Gardens.

Finally, nearby Woolsery has a local shop (also Hartland) for all your top up groceries (8mins drive), a fish and chip takeaway and a wonderful pub and restaurant using locally grown produce to cook truly delicious and exciting food at The Farmer's Arms.
