The property

Ivy Cottage sits quietly in the heart of Dartmouth, offering a charming bolt hole for couples keen to enjoy one of South Devon’s most characterful waterside towns.

Tucked among winding streets and historic buildings, this traditional, relaxed home is perfectly placed for days spent wandering, eating well and soaking up life by the River Dart.

Inside, the cottage feels thoughtfully arranged and full of warmth.

The kitchen and dining space is well equipped for easy, unhurried meals, whether you’re preparing breakfast before heading out or cooking something special after a day on the water.

Stairs lead to a welcoming sitting room, a calm retreat where you can put your feet up with a book or settle in for the evening beside the woodburning stove, adding a real sense of comfort after a day exploring.

The double bedroom offers a peaceful place to rest, complemented by a smartly finished shower room that keeps things practical without fuss.

Step outside and you’ll find a small enclosed patio, ideal for a quiet morning coffee or a glass of wine as the town gently winds down.

Ivy Cottage is particularly appealing for those who like to leave the car behind, with Dartmouth’s independent shops, galleries and cafés all close at hand.

The harbour is a short stroll away, where boats drift past and the ferry carries passengers across the river to explore Kingswear and beyond.

Dartmouth itself is a joy to explore, from its medieval streets and riverside walks to its excellent food scene, with fresh seafood often taking centre stage.

Boat trips along the Dart offer a different view of the coastline, while nearby beaches provide opportunities for swimming and lazy afternoons by the sea.

For longer days out, Totnes brings a lively, creative feel, while coastal paths lead to hidden coves and wide views across the water.

Ivy Cottage is a relaxed and inviting retreat, ideal for couples looking to slow the pace and enjoy Dartmouth’s timeless charm from a comfortable, well-located base.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £150.

DARTMOUTH

Totnes 12 miles.

Dartmouth lies on the banks of the beautiful River Dart estuary in the popular and picturesque South Hams area of South Devon. Located within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and close to the coast, Dartmouth is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Devon. It offers a stunning waterfront, ancient narrow streets lined with boutique shops, restaurants and art galleries plus many local events such as the annual Dart Music Festival and the Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta, along with the Dartmouth Food Festival held every October. There are many interesting cycling and walking routes around Dartmouth, including the South West Coast Path, the Dart Valley Trail and plenty of quiet country lanes. A trip on the Dartmouth Steam Railway through picturesque countryside to Paignton is a must, and so is a boat trip across to Kingswear and on to Brixham, a pretty little harbour town. For those seeking some beach activities, there is a wide choice in the South Hams area such as Blue Flag Award winner Blackpool Sands, and Slapton Sands, both extremely popular and just a stone's throw from Dartmouth. A relaxing location in South Devon.
