  • "Lovely property; comfortable, clean and well appointed."

Brilliant views from the balcony! This will be our go-to place to stay when we are in Lynmouth next.

  • "This was our second stay and we enjoyed it just as much with more family staying this time and our 7 month old."

It’s an ideal location for staying in Lynmouth and the views are stunning especially at sunrise/sunset.

  • "Lovely accommodation with sea and harbour views from the balcony."

Well furnished and comfortable with shops, cafes and pubs all within a short walk. There is a small supermarket in Lynton easily reached via the cliff railway or a short drive up the hill. We didn't have any problems parking in either the carpark at the end of the esplanade or on the road outside (Parking restrictions allowing) but it might be more difficult in peak season. Only criticism would be that the bathrooms could possibly do with updating, but that didn't spoil our stay and we would happily stay here again.

  • "This is a lovely apartment in a beautiful setting."

We spent two weeks exploring the area around Lynmouth and Lynton on foot, walking each day along the coast path or in the wooded valleys, with stunning scenery in every direction. Old Lyn Cottage made the perfect base, comfortable and well equipped, it had everything we needed for our stay, though the bathrooms are a little tired. The hosts were friendly and helpful, and there was a lovely welcome pack of local goodies when we arrived. The apartment is above the owners' shop selling cider and fudge, and next door to an excellent chip shop. What could be better?!

  • "We loved our stay at Old Lynn Cottage and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing holiday in North Devon."

The cottage is clean, the beds are very comfortable and we loved curling up on the comfy sofa at the end of a long day walking in the amazing countryside nearby. Lynmouth is a beautiful small seaside town, nice and quiet and very picturesque. We visited Ilfracombe, Tintagel and Bude during our stay and were very happy with our choice of Lynmouth. It's easy to ride the funicular railway up to Lynton where there's a few more shops, or walk up the river to Watersmeet. Our favourite pub in Lynmouth is the Ancient Mariner, the food's great and staff are friendly. If you're driving to Lynmouth from the west along the A39 via Minehead, prepare yourself for Porlock Hill. With a 1 in 4 gradient on hairpin bends it's... an experience, not suitable for some vehicles. All the roads out of the village are very steep, but that was part of the fun. We'd definitely stay at Old Lynn Cottage again. Thank you John for our wonderful holiday.

The accommodation was very clean and comfortable with everything you could need for a self catering holiday . The owners were very friendly and helpful . The setting was stunning overlooking the river with beautiful views out to the sea . There are so many good walks in the area including Watersmeet, Valley of the Rocks, the Doone Valley and Heddon Valley . It’s also not too far from Croyde, Woolacombe and Ilfracoombe beaches .

  • "Lovely central location and the cottage apartment was perfect for our needs."

Nice modern kitchen facility and open plan dining/lounge area great to relax after long walks. Amazing views from balconies! Hope to come back next year with the whole party! Since Covid restrictions meant two households couldn’t both go this year. Highly recommended for two couples or a small family. My husband loved the ice cream from the shop below! We got a week parking permit for £20 to park in the main car parks near by and parked outside the apartment after the restricted hours.

  • "The front door was a clue would some varnish be too costly?"

Look behind the toilets-disgusting feel the dust on skirting boards and dado rails, the ring around the bath was the limit. Inside the microwave had not been cleaned, crumbs from previous visitors in bread bin! How about sweeping the balconies and painting or varnishing wood on balcony. People cook with steamer pans now for healthy cooking. Finally, get under the bathroom sinks and clean the ruddy waste traps I had to sit on the toilet and look at the dirt , this is the worst accommodation we have ever had in Lynmouth, last time I saw taps like those on the bath was in a national trust property. Come on Sykes do your job and inspect these places properly or adjust the prices to account for less than 2 star rating.

Plenty of places to eat and drink within a few hundred yards but still peaceful. From the property I could look over the small park opposite and then out to sea. The harbour was only 3 minutes walk away where you could take a boat trip along the coast. Everywhere was dog friendly which made life easy. John and Lenka the owners of Old Lyn where very helpful. • "We took an Autumn break in Lynmouth staying at Old Lyn Cottage."

We have stayed in Lynton previously at another beautiful cottage but decided to have a change. The accommodation is of a very high standard. It was spotlessly clean and had everything you could possibly need to enjoy your stay. The location is really quite spectacular with the river trundling down to the sea outside the property. Two magnificent balcony's were used well to fully enjoy the sound of the river and the beautiful views both in the day and at night. We enjoyed some great food in the local pubs and the beautiful Watersmeet walk and café. I would highly recommend this accomodation

The balconies on both levels were a real bonus. John and his wife were both very welcoming and helpful. Located in the centre of the village you are within easy reach of the pubs but the location isn't noisy. The walk to Watersmeet is a must with the reward of a cream tea when you get there. There are plenty of walks in the area of wonderful countryside. Fully recommend. We were there in late June and were able to park in the street outside overnight without problem.

Once a fishing village, today it is popular with tourists.

Lynmouth, with the River Lyn running through it, near the sea, nestles right next to Lynton on the cliffs above and the two are connected by the famous funicular cliff railway.

Old Lyn Cottage is in a wonderful location right next to the River Lyn, with beautiful sea views.

Situated above a small gift shop, this stylish apartment is set over two floors.

The open plan living area is bright and spacious with a smart, well equipped kitchen and has wonderful views.

About the location

LYNMOUTH

Minehead 17 miles; Ilfracombe 19 miles.

Set directly on the coast at the foot of the Exmoor hills, this charming village draws visitors from near and far. Quaint Lynmouth sits between the river, shore and hills and offers small restaurants, tea rooms and inns. There are plenty of things to see and do, including a unique water-powered cliff railway with outstanding views, which links Lynmouth with neighbouring Lynton, the pretty harbour town where the fisherman’s cottages creep down towards the quay, and the distinctive Rhenish Tower sits proudly on the harbour wall. The National Trust own nearby Arlington Court and Watersmeet, a stunning riverside walk, and within the National Park boundary, the hills of Exmoor drop down to the sea where they shadow the Exmoor Heritage Coast. Romantic Porlock, home of Lorna Doone, is just 16 miles to the east, the coastal resorts of Minehead and Ilfracombe are both within 20 miles, with the hills of Exmoor dotted all around, and there are good shopping opportunities in Barnstaple, 20 miles away.
