  • "What a lovely 300 yr old thatched cottage."

Don't be put off by the age of the property, it has been brought up to modern standards without compromising the original features. A well maintain and clean cosy property with all the essential (and more) contents required. The log burner was something I had not found in previous thatched holiday rentals. Would thoroughly recommend this property.

  • "We had a lovely stay at Bee Hive Cottage with our friends a few weeks ago."

It was comfortable, the kitchen well appointed and we enjoyed the front patio in the evening sun. The mattresses on all the beds tend to be a bit soft and lumpy so I wouldn't give top marks for those. The tall lamp in the lounge wasn't working, we tried changing the bulb to no avail. Also, more info on recycling would be appreciated. We couldn't find the green bags mentioned and didn't know whether we could leave our bottles as our changeover day didn't coincide with the collection date. Such details would be greatly appreciated in the visitors' folder for next time. Otherwise, thanks for keeping the cottage so nice for holidaymakers.

  • "We stayed for a week in March."

My husband is 6ft 6inches and could not really stand up in any room, especially with his shoes on. If you are taller than about 5ft 9 in you risk banging your head. The cottage is in need of some tlc - esp as next door is for sale and has been cleaned up and painted. The shop/cafe down the road was very handy and The Bush Inn pub was lovely as advertised. Main issues for us were the bed which was very lumpy and bumpy and didn’t make for a great nights sleep - a new bed or mattress is needed. Also the hot water - my husband likes a bath every morning - there was not enough hot water to fill the bath right up and I would then have to push the button again to try and heat it up for a bath or shower myself - these usually resulted in one of us using it in the morning and one of us in the afternoon or evening and on the day we left we couldn’t get the boiler to come back on so after packing and getting hot and bothered I had to have a very Luke warm strip wash as the shower was freezing! On the plus side there was ample things such as wine, chocolate biscuits and things like dishwasher tablets and laundry pods - also tea and coffee which was appreciated. Another thing we are not a fan of is a 5pm check in - you pretty much lose a days holiday as you have to check out before 10am - that gives them 7 hours to clean a small cottage ? Travelling with children or dogs you want to get there and get in - a 2pm or 3pm at latest would I am sure be appreciated by most people and perhaps an 11am check out? (even though we were out by 9am). Also in the winter and dark I imagine locating the key safe could be an absolute mission - it took us a while to find! The logs left made the first evening a nice a cosy one. The beaches around this area that we saw didn’t seem to be sandy - more pebbly. We drove to Saunton Sands a couple of times as they have a fantastic beach there.

Fluffy white towels and comfortable furnishings and fire made for a relaxing stay. Only feedback for owners is first impressions of cottage it is need of some tlc and I fixed the rattly bedroom window.

The shower did not work so we're unable to have a shower had to use bath and shower attachment which was not convenient, contacted owner , plumber attended but unable to repair, disappointing, the outside light at rear not working , the fridge and freezer need full defrost to get rid of built up ice in both , however all other facilities were very good and plenty of cups glasses plates etc only had to use dishwasher once , nice bottle of wine as a welcome gift

  • "A wonderful cottage in a very handy location for North Cornwall and North Devon."

The cottage is well equipped, warm and cosy. The enclosed garden was a real bonus for our dogs too. The cottage is bigger than it looks - and the stairs weren’t as steep as I feared from other comments! A small hiccup on the first night was promptly sorted by the owner, who went above and beyond to make up for it - much appreciated! We realised after a few days that the heated towel rail in the bathroom wasn’t working - not a problem as the cottage is warm and towels dried on hooks well enough but thought I would mention so the owner knows! All in all a great cottage - and we were very lucky with the weather which was a real bonus for January!

  • "Nothing too dramatic but a couple of issues that the owners should be aware of: The garden was looking overgrown, lawn uncut and patio hadn't been weeded for a long time."

There was no shower squeegee - which was no hardship but was referred to in the visitors instructions. The bin collections are on a Monday - so we had very little by the time of the collection but had to leave our rubbish when we left. I assume this is a regular problem - if there is a nearby alternative facility perhaps it should appear in the visitors instructions. The lounge armchair, if moved, scratches the floor. Unavoidable when trying to watch the TV - suggest replacing the casters with rubber ones.

On arrival following a problem with the cleaning due to a previous occupancy, the owner apologised, promptly sent a second cleaner with complimentary wine and later gave some compensation for our inconvenience. I really couldn’t wish for a better response from an owner. As a result we had a fabulous holiday with beautiful nearby beaches, pubs and walks. I will recommend to all my friends to stay here ( something I have never done before despite holidaying in many cottages).

  • "Arrived at cottage, in a lovely quiet village location."

First impressions good however immediately noticed grass had not been cut for some time and was approx 6 inches long. Weeds were everywhere and the patio table outside was filthy. Entered property and now the good points. The kitchen was clean and well stocked with quality cooking equipment. as was the lounge, bathroom and bedrooms with nice clean linen and towels.Bed comfortable. First trip to the toilet we found the toilet seat was broken after texting the owner ( a lovely lady but who lived miles from the property ) she arranged for someone to come round and replace it. There was no welcome pack, and no logs in the basket . Further the oven was filthy again rectified ,but as the lady who cleaned it said,it needed a deep clean. The fridge freezer needed defrosting and took 2 days to get to a reasonable temperature. Two of the window pains were also cracked. The door to the cupboard containing unusable vacume cleaner was also broken. I feel horrible to give such a negative review as the weather was great and we still enjoyed ourselves at the cottage despite its shortcomings. However I would be horrified to pay over One Thousand pounds at the the height of the season for a 2 bedroom property.

BUT - nowhere in the description of the cottage does it say the bathroom is downstairs. Had we known this, we orobabkynwouldnt have booked it. Negotiating steep stairs in the middle.of the night was an achievement! - despite several reviews and comments in the visitors book regarding basic instructions for white goods, the heating etc (sadly needed in June), they are still lacking, but managed to sus them all out - despite several comments about the garden needing attention, it remains unkempt and quite uninviting - rubbish, well recycling from previous holiday makers was left in a bin bag at the back door. Despite contacting the contact number, I received no reply. However, googled collection day and sorted it myself, but don't expect to have to do this on holiday! However, great TV (unusual in holiday rentals) and the furnishings and facilities were great. Very comfortable beds and so important, dog friendly!
