  • "It is a delightful and private hideaway."

Very comfortable and with all the standard requirements provided for. Its location in the lovely historic village of Portesham is an added bonus, especially as I came to study the plethora of ancient history on the doorstep. I was particularly impressed with the Inclusion of a washing machine, dishwasher and a large deep freeze. It was an academic 's heaven.

  • "Finding this place took ages ,we had to ask several people for help ,but I will condense the last week to a walk round the annexe, 1st impressions not bad, then you walk into a full length cobweb, KITCHEN cobwebs up on the walls, washing machine ,dish washer seem ok, round to the side there is a toaster ,the tray so full of breadcrumbs it’s prob a fire hazard, spoons in the cutlery drawer that are gross, lots of crockery in the cupboards tho all the mugs have tea stain rings in them, the MICROWAVE inside under the glass plate it is so rusty we wouldn’t use it, we just decided to eat out for safety the FRIDGE ,only one shelf left on the door and one shelf inside has half missing,FREEZER needs defrosting, past the window, the corners of the frames are black,up the stairs ,the skirting board is broken with part sticking up,BATHROOM 1st glance ok,then you see the shower trap, the hand shower over the bath is a health hazard, only 2 little down lighters over the shower with different wattage bulbs in them , the light on the mirror is broken ,the BEDROOM broken chest of drawers,a wardrobe with loads of odd hangers from the owners clothes just thrown on to the shelf, & broken hinge ,back down to the TV you can’t get terrestrial tv,you have to stream,no router ,you can’t get some of the stations ,you sit down to watch it ,but it keeps cutting out,I spoke to the owner but he was in London and his last comment was, I’m sure you’ll find something to watch, that’s the joy of living in the country,I should have told him then that we do live in the country and have no problems with our tv."

And he can keep the elastic band we put on the remote as the battery cover kept falling off,out to the GARDEN tho you can’t really call it that,we had to wash the table, which was black ,there are 3 lights one works one barely works and one doesn’t,and lastly you’ll get a early morning wake up call with the lorries from the milk plant and the tractors that go up the lane by the annexe any time from 2.45 onwards.I have never stayed anywhere where I’ve wanted to come straight home, and I know the owner will not like any of this but when we finally saw the last 3 reviews I can only think he wants it to fail as he now has 3 one star reviews and 1 two star, nothing from those reviews has been acted upon ,I have many photos to prove my points and they will be winging their way to Sykes but I will gladly take prints and send them to the owner.this place could be a right cracker but sadly it’s as if no one cares ,but when you’ve paid good money to spend a week there you deserve more.

As your message is so long I think most people will stop reading. However I will respond to your comments: cobwebs in the kitchen- I cannot be held responsible for the spiders actions after I leave the property. I apologise for the tea spoons and tea cups and will replace these. The crumbs in the toaster have very easily been tipped out, I am sure you could have done this yourself thus avoiding a fire. Again apologies for this oversight. I was unaware of the rust under the glass plate in the microwave, but now you have told us we will also replace that. But it is not a danger.. The fridge has a missing drawer - it still works. The freezer will need defrosting, it's the end of season, we have been quite busy this summer. I don't understand your bathroom concerns. The mirror light doesn't work, not all mirrors have lights. The other lights work perfectly well. And what health hazard?? The chest of drawers is not broken. Yes we provided lots of coat hangers, children's sizes, adults, clippy ones , some for trousers, some for coats. Is that a negative?? The garden is a garden ?? The wooden skirting board has been like that for 10 years. The oak has split, thats all. The tractors work at the farm milking cows. I have no control of their working hours. Yes we stream the TV channels , no terrestrial, don't most, its a smart TV. There's Netflix, Prime, and you can stream all other terrestrial channels. Again you are complaining about having too much. We explained how it works when you phoned. Why did you not tell us about the problems then. We even spoke to you face to face, none of this was mentioned. Why leave it until after your stay to bring this to light. And leave your comments on a public forum. Property Owner

  • "Location was excellent."

But not impressed with other things like having to have a new shower fitted whilst staying there as we could not control the temperature of the shower. The toilet flush was diabolical.Mirror light and fan not working in bathroom.

Goodness me, you phoned me and explained that the shower was difficult, and you were having problems with adjusting the temperature. I arrived to show you how it worked, with ease, but decided to replace the shower for your convenience. And here you are still complaining. I explained that the toilet flush has always been without much pressure, it is slow to flush and might need extra flushing. You seemed to take this onboard when I spoke to you. There are plenty of lights in the bathroom. Again I explained that to fix the light in the mirror would mean throwing away a perfectly adequate mirror. Your husband said he was able to shave with ease. Not every mirror has a light fitting attached, however we seem to survive. You seem to have had a terrible time and these issues must have ruined your holiday. Even a new shower didn't cheer you up. When we discussed these issues face to face you seemed to understand. So even if I had fitted a whole new bathroom you probably would have complained. There is no pleasing some people. Property Owner

  • "A nice place to stay and good location for exploring the area."

Some other feedback/suggestions for the property listing (please do not include if published) - The mattress was not great, lumpy and pretty uncomfortable so it needs replacing. - The owner was coming into the garage (to access items stored there) whilst I was staying in the annexe - he was friendly and polite and didn't come into the annexe itself but it was a little disconcerting as I was not expecting anyone to be opening the garage door whilst I was sat in the living room with the access door from the garage propped open to keep the annex cool. Perhaps it would be helpful to advise future guests that the owner may access the garage whilst they are staying. Also, the directions could have been a clearer as I needed to drive through the village a couple of times before finding it! It would help to say that Goose Hill is actually the 'main' road through the village, the B3157 (and maybe note that the road is also on the flat, not a hill at all which threw me!). Please consider including a What3Words reference as this would have helped enormously. Thank you :-)

  • "Our review is not intended to be negative in itself, without it being a constructive critique."

If it was for a one or two night stay, things may have been seen in a different light, however, we had booked Millmead Annex for 28 days, having said that, the length of stay should have been much more comfortable than it was. In addition and adding context, our stay did coincide with a continuous heat wave. Firstly, location! Perfect for our needs and especially the short walk to the cafe and pub. However, Millmead sits at the edge of the village on a track leading to the equipment supply depot for all the local farm tractors and machinery which ran 24/7 it being summer and harvesting season. (worth checking before booking). Although a fan was supplied for the bedroom, the lack of any air conditioning meant having the windows open on the hot sleepless nights made worse by the harvesting traffic. The shower never actually ever worked properly and disappointingly we were unable to sit in the garden as it was extremely overgrown and not representative of the advertising photos. The fact one had to ‘limbo’ around the bottom of the bed due to the adjacent sloping roof, which in reality is much more severe than perceived in the photos. There were simple things absent, like any salt or pepper, although, it has to be said the owner was receptive to our request for the shower taps to be repaired and the boiler re-started. The accommodation came supplied with a broom only and when we requested a vacuum one was promptly supplied, but such a shame we had to ask for such basics. Millmead has very poor internet reception and no free to air tv (extremely frustrating if you were hoping to watch the free to view fifa world cup !!). Also when the main house is occupied it can have three cars making parking a little bit of a juggling act. This may all seem small points exacerbated by seasonal factors but aggregated become contentious issues which go towards the overall poor experience.
