  • "Blacksmiths cottage is perfect for a couple, perhaps hanging space could be an issue for 4 but for 2 it's fine , good to have a parking space as it's rather limited in the area , kitchen has everything you need , likewise bathroom with a great shower, beds so comfortable couldn't find fault with anything."

30 minute walk down the riverside into Lyme which is beautiful , catch bus back as it's a steep walk back by road so don't forget your bus pass ! All in all we had a great holiday and would definitely return . Cheers p.s thanks for a great welcome pack, much appreciated.

  • "The Blacksmith's Cottage is larger than expected, with enough space for a family."

It is very well presented and meticulously clean. The space for parking alongside the building was appreciated, and very useful for unpacking and later packing the car away from the roadside. The beds, bedrooms and bathrooms are all of a high standard (apart from the wooden floor in the large bathroom!) The kitchen is well presented, but we could only use the kettle and toaster as we are in our 80s. We did not know how to use the modern microwave, oven etc. provided, which limited our food preparation. We only discovered the information folder on our 3rd day! - Some prior awareness would have helped! I Thank you for a delightful three day holiday, at a reasonable cost. Ann B.

  • "The cottage was very comfortable, well equipped and though not large was roomy enough for two people."

The location was convenient with a very pleasant walk by the river into Lyme Regis and quiet country lanes offering the opportunity to explore the area around Uplyme.

  • "Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Blacksmith's Cottage."

An extremely comfortable, clean and well equipped and maintained cottage with easy access to the beautiful Dorset and east Devon countryside and coastline. Would certainly recommend the holiday property to others.

  • "Cottage is in a convenient out-of-town location and on a regular bus route."

Perfect for walkers with easy access to public footpaths. The 2 bathrooms icon is inaccurate as the en-suite upstairs only has a w.c. & basin. All the windows were locked and no keys were in sight. We were optimistic that we wouldn't have a fire and might need to escape but this is far from ideal. Garden unusable due to rubbish bin which doesn't appear in photos and proximity to busy road. Very misleading. Nowhere to hang clothes in downstairs bedroom but plenty of shelves in the cupboards. On a positive note the cottage was clean and beds comfortable.

  • "The front door was difficult to open on numerous occasions, the hot water was not hot enough to have a bath, a really awkward step into the lounge by the kitchen which has been padded out by a rug, we still tripped."

The sofa was too low. We used the downstairs bed which was far too high and nowhere to hang coats by the front door only under the stairs. The kitchen was modern if a bit overblown for a cottage.

Thank you for your comments. We are sorry to see that the property was not to your liking. Regarding the hot water, we have had our maintenance team attend twice to see if any fault can be resolved. None was found but like with most hot water supplies, the taps need to not be opened all the way to allow the boiler to keep up with the demand and deliver lovely hot water. The property is not a new build but rather a very characterful cottage and with this comes slightly uneven levels which we feel adds to the charm of the building. The property boasts many modern furnishings including the Chesterfield style sofa and double bed downstairs. We appreciate that a mattress can be a tricky item to please everyone, but the owner has taken great care to purchase a mattress that we hope appeals to nearly all guests. We like our properties to be a home-from-home for our customers and the owners have ensured this with Blacksmiths Cottage, with the idea to have guests wanting for nothing. We appreciate you taking the time to leave your feedback and we hope to welcome you back to the Lyme Bay area in the future. Property Owner

  • "Lovely comfortable cottage."

The facilities are great. The beds are very comfortable. There’s som lovely decor touches and the kitchen is very well equipped. The only negative for us was that we couldn’t locate the information booklet and also there wasn’t a tea towel. We did message about this but there was no response which was disappointing as we weren’t sure how to operate the heating.

Thank you for your feedback. We are delighted to see that you enjoyed the property but very sorry that you were unable to speak to a member of the team. We will ensure that a new welcome folder is taken to the property, and tea towels are always provided. They have obviously been missed on this booking. We appreciate you taking the time to let us know and we very much hope to welcome you back to the Lyme Bay area soon. Property Owner

The low mark for maintenance is 41 returned up there's about 10 sheets of toilet paper before people I didn't think this was a lot

Thank you for the feedback after your stay. We are sorry you did not report this issue while staying in the property, we could have rectified this straight away. We do provide sufficient toilet paper for the length of stay and we are very sorry for this oversight. We have put in new measures so this does not happen again. Just a few minor points: Hot water was too hot for the showers. Bathroom lock was sticky. Ensuite was just a toilet upstairs. I would recommend this cottage to stay at.

  • "A fantastic cottage!"

Very clean and well appointed, everything you could think of in the kitchen cupboards. Really comfortable, I think the best mattresses we’ve slept on in a holiday cottage. Great location, we walked the river path into Lyme which wasn’t far from the property and a lovely steady walk saving on car park fees in Lyme. We’d love to return one day. Shower controls were a little loose and the loo roll holder in the bathroom was falling off the wall.

  • "The cottage itself is in a great location."

The layout and design of the cottage was pleasing on the eye. Little things like the rug covering the unfinished floor in kitchen, toilet roll holder hanging off wall and the dust especially on the lights in the bedroom are things that could easily be rectified. Other than that was really pleased; we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Devon. Lyme Regis is exceptionally busy - if you fancy the beach go early. Parking can be difficult. Definitely would go back. Still waiting on Sykes to respond over the summer discount that we didn’t get when booking.

Thank you for leaving feedback after your stay. We are so glad to hear that you enjoyed yourselves and would be happy to return. All of our properties have their own little quirks, Blacksmiths Cottage having a little step down from the kitchen. The rug has been placed there to help smooth out the floor and aid guests. We are sorry to hear about the toilet roll holder and lights. Your comments have been raised with the team and have been actioned. I can see from your booking notes that your discount code query is being handled. Hoping to welcome you back soon. Property Owner

  • "The welcome pack upon arrival was a nice touch and really made us feel at home."

We followed the directions re. bin collection, but there was no collection whilst we were there. I'm not sure if this is a regular issue?? Overall, an impressive, well located, well maintained and clean property, where we felt very at home.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback after your holiday. We are delighted you enjoyed the welcome pack, these are provided by a local small business and we get a fantastic response from our guests. We thank you for your conscientiousness regarding the bins and we are sorry it wasn’t collected as expected, we will contact the refuse company to investigate any potential issues. Thank you for your comments regarding the great location, maintenance and cleanliness, we work very hard to keep our customers happy; as such we welcome and appreciate your feedback as it enables us to improve the service we offer guests and the standard of properties we let. • "The cottage is lovely and comfortable with everything you would need for your stay."

The only downfall is it’s so near to the main road which I don’t recall is mentioned in the listing and can at times be noisy and intrusive.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback following your recent holiday. Blacksmiths Cottage is listed as being in the heart of Uplyme, which is in a fantastically convenient location to the village facilities as well as to Lyme Regis. Due to Lyme’s appeal and subsequent footfall the road can be busy at certain times of the day but certainly isn’t continuous. We look forward to welcoming you again to beautiful Lyme Regis.
