  • "Beautiful location although very remote (you need to bring basics with you if you don’t fancy a 40 min round trip to nearest shop for milk!"

    ). The kitchen could do with more cooking dishes but otherwise was well equipped. The heating/hot water was not working when we arrived but this was immediately rectified when we called for help. Our main criticism was the place needed a thorough clean. Overall we enjoyed our stay.

  • "We enjoyed the location, cleanliness and comfort of Prince's Cottage."

    The views are fab and it feels like you have the glen all to yourself. The furnishings were of a high quality and the beds super comfortable. We had a couple of minor issues which were quickly sorted (thank you). We suggest adding oven dishes, and a visitors book so guests can add recommendations for things to do in the area. We chose this cottage partly because it had a secure garden but, as the lambs were managing to get in, we didn't risk letting our dog off lead.

  • "Princes Cottage was in a lovely secluded position with walks from the door just as described and what we wanted."

    Disappointed when we arrived that the property was cold as the heating was not on. There were no instructions about anything, heating, WiFi, bin collection, recycling, what to do etc. We eventually managed to contact the keyholder and got the heating sorted but there was never enough hot water to have a decent bath or long shower for one let alone six whatever we did. The sitting room was small but adequate the downstairs bedroom was spacious though the bed a little hard. The bedlinen and towels were all clean plentiful. The galley kitchen was well equipped, the microwave old but worked. No teapot was a bug bear but we used the coffee percolator.

  • "Beautiful cottage and surroundings, excellent for a break away from everything and everyone, but still within reach of civilisation if needed."

    Cottage has everything you need for your stay and more, ideal location for walking and exploring. Would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone, looking forward to stopping again.

  • "Cottage was lovely, a beautiful little getaway."

    Kids absolutely loved it and had lots of fun. The only problem was the shower head leaked but a new head and that would be sorted. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a quiet relaxing time.

    Cottage is clean and cosy with wood burner. Shop is in 5.2 miles. I will definitely come again...

    Stunning location and surroundings. Lovely listening to the sound of the Lambs bleating. We were very lucky with the weather. We will most definitely come back! If this place ever comes up for sale, we would love to buy it x

  • "The cottage was one of the best we have stayed in and would definitely return and also recommend."

    Couple of things need fixed - kitchen tap leaks and shower head is also leaking. Would suggest the gate is kept closed to prevent the amount of sheep poo in the garden. We added a rope to the gate as the latch didn’t close to make it safe for our dog. Those are just all small maintenance things though and we could not fault the cottage, it had everything we needed for an amazing holiday

MONIAIVE

Thornhill 9 miles; Dumfries 17 miles.

Moniaive means ‘Hill of Streams’ in Gaelic, and the village itself occupies a wonderful location at the meeting of the three glens of Craigdarroch, Dalwhat and Castlefairn. Although planned by a local landowner in the 17th century, Moniaive has a history dating back to the 10th century, and the medieval street layout is still evident. The village has been dubbed ‘One of the coolest in Scotland’ by The Times, and today it is a bustling, thriving centre with a range of facilities including a fabulous Italian restaurant. There are many events throughout the year including the Moniaive Gala and festivals for beer, bluegrass and folk music. In the hills surrounding the village are the Striding Arches, a series of Andy Goldsworthy sculptures set in the landscape. Visiting these also offers some delightful walking in the spectacular scenery. This is a wonderful village for a holiday in Scotland.
