  • "We felt the property was more someone's home rather than a holiday let which was not for us, we felt we were intruding ,especially when there were private letters coming through the post and the land line ringing."

There were nice touches such as a bowl and treats for the dog. Bedding and towels were clean. There was no information pack which would have been helpful nearest vets,Drs. What cou.uld go in recycling etc Unfortunately there were cleaning issues. As we walked in we both thought the house smelt of stale nicotine the diffuser just made it more noticable. There is a cigarette end on the floor to the right of the fire. We used the back bedroom unfortunaly there is a used tissue behind the right hand bedside table also dusty cobweb above the bed and dust on the lights. The shower screen is covered in limescale , I did try to clean some off but it needs a thorough descaling. Candles and ornaments had layer of dust on them. Which is not up to the usual Skyes cottages standard. We had thought we had found the ideal place for visiting family and friends but because of the issues stated we will not be returning. The cigarette and tissue we have left as I didnt want to to touch other peoples used items.

  • "We had a lovely stay at this property - it was a home from home!"

Communication from owner was excellent, property exactly as described, very comfortable stay. The kitchen is well stocked, there is a smart TV, DVDs, cards and dominoes, and lots of personal features that made it feel like someone had just stepped out! Would definitely stay again

  • "Not advisable to book this property due to significant issues with cleanliness, health and safety concerns, poor maintenance, and hostility from the adjoining neighbor."

These problems forced my family to vacate the property after only a few days and return home, completely ruining our vacation.

I am sorry you had such a poor experience at 14 Shorwell. I would be interested to know specifically what heath and safety issues you are referring to so I can address them as none of my other 12 visiting parties have mentioned anything of this nature. Kind regards Diana Property Owner

  • "Lots of positives for this property."

Great location for spending time with our daughter in Southampton. Allocated parking is a bonus. The house is a good size & the lounge /bedrooms are comfortable. The shower & bathroom is excellent. The outside area is also lovely. Then the downsides..... The house wasn't clean - at all. We are long time Sykes customers & this is the 1st time I've been in a property that hasn't been cleaned. There is a very strong smell of cats that is overpowering. But it's the unpleasant / offensive neighbour that really makes this a property to avoid. I understand she doesn't want people walking over her patch of grass (lawn would be a huge over statement!), but shouting at us was not what I wanted on a Sunday morning. Whatever her issues are, ranting at us isn't going to help! We were happy to make sure we didn't step on her weeds, but continuing to rant about the owner was of zero interest to us!

NETLEY ABBEY

Hamble-le-Rice 3.5 miles; Southampton 4 miles.

This diverse, south Hampshire village is located on the eastern shores of Southampton Water, beside the Royal Victoria Country Park. The village takes its name from the 13th century Cistercian monastery there, its well-preserved ruins still remaining today. The heart of the village retains some of its traditional charm and is proud of its waterside heritage, with ample opportunities for sailing in the nearby village of Hamble-le-Rice. Nearby, The Royal Victoria Country Park was the site of The Royal Victoria Hospital, the first purpose-built military hospital. Now, all that remains is the hospital chapel and 200 acres of wood and parkland. There are lovely walks to explore and a variety of wildlife, as well as spectacular views from the top of the 150 foot chapel tower across Southampton Water, one of the busiest shipping canals in the country. Together with its beautiful setting, tea rooms and a narrow gauge railway, the park provides visitors with a fascinating day out. Netley lies within very easy reach of Southampton and its impressive range of attractions. There is an easy drive to the New Forest, as well as Portsmouth's historic dockyard, home to the magnificent HMS Victory, and Gunwharf Quays, a retail outlet perched on the waterside. This south Hampshire waterside village is a convenient base from which to explore this fascinating area.
