"Unique historic property, well laid out on three floors and with a roof terrace as well."
It's been maintained to a high standard, and is very clean and comfortable, with a welcoming and helpful owner living nearby.
Stairs are obviously steeper than usual, as shown clearly in the photos, but that just adds to the character and quirkiness. And conveniently there is a well-stocked shop, tearoom, pub and vineyard all within easy walking distance. A great base for a relaxing and enjoyable holiday. Highly recommended.

"We booked Hapton Folly between the 2 May and 5 May 2025."
Upon arrival we opened the door and a strong smell of damp was present, this was in the kitchen and bathroom, we then went into town, several hours later we returned and had a look around the property.
This fell way below sykes properties usual standards.
We know it is a very old building but the condition and cleanliness of the staircase needs to be addressed, also the ceiling and walls in the bedroom were very mouldy in two corners. The bathroom had significant mould on the walls. The taps were very corroded, paint was flaking off the ceiling in the living room, The oven trays had not been cleaned, the microwave was rusty and could be dangerous.
We pointed out the mouldy ceiling to the owner the following morning, she apologized and said this was only repaired last year, said it wasn't mould and will have a word with the cleaner.
We only stayed for one night because of the condition of the property.
It is our opinion that this property is not suitable for habitation at present. We have stayed in a few sykes properties and this is by far the worst.
Thank you for your feedback
I am sorry to hear your comments and that you had to leave the property earlier than planned
Your feedback is very out of character based on the previous reviews
I have addressed the points you made with my cleaner and thank you for bringing them to my attention. I do take a great pride in the property standards and want every customer to enjoy their stay with us.
I hope your recovery from injury goes well, the property layout wouldn’t be ideal for anyone on crutches due to the steep stairs and the locations of the bathrooms and bedrooms
Once again, thank you for your comments

"We absolutely loved our stay at Hapton Folly."
We were pleasantly surprised at how spacious the folly is and the secret loft hatch up to the tower roof was brilliant. The sofa is so comfortable as is the bed. We didn’t see the owners as they were away, however the neighbour was helpful as was the gardener. We recommend the village shop, The Stores, and The Forge tea room. There are plenty of sites to visit depending on your likes
Thank you for taking the time to send feedback on your recent stay in our unique Folly! So pleased you enjoyed it.

"If you want a quirky stay in a lovely and friendly village choose The Hapton Folly."
The inside is comfortable and well equipped and the view from the top is just beautiful. We had a very relaxed stay and enjoyed a lovely walk to the vineyard where we had a wine tasting, a meal in a friendly local pub, The Vine and breakfast in the delightful Old Forge Tea Room. Please don't go if you have mobility issues, but otherwise put it on your bucket list!!

"We had a good holiday at Hapton Folly despite the wet weather."
The folly is a quirky holiday home, like staying in your own little castle. The bed was very comfortable with crisp white linen. The weather turned chilly during our stay but there were electric radiators on each floor which we used one evening and these warmed the space quickly. We really enjoyed the views from the windows in the rooms and especially from the terrace on top of the tower. There is a table, chairs and fairy lights so a nice place for drinks at the end of the day. There are good views across the village and the valley. The kitchen is small but well equipped to cook some meals. We appreciated the welcome bottle of wine. Hambledon is a very quiet and pretty village. We visited Winchester and Southsea nearby. We also enjoyed visiting the Hambledon vineyard and had lunch and a wine tour. It is a short walk from the property, just 10 minutes across the vineyard by the village school.

"We really enjoyed our short break at Hapton Folly."
A wonderful quirky retreat in the heart of the beautiful Hampshire village of Hambledon. The surrounding area provides ample opportunity for walking, with a very local and hospitable pub (The Vine) for food and drink. The village shop (People’s Market) is well stocked and fairly priced for all needs. The Old Forge tea rooms (a short walk away) provides lovely breakfasts, teas etc., and is well worth a visit. There are other good hostelries within striking distance
We were warmly welcomed on arrival by our delightful host, Lindy, and immediately felt at home. The folly itself is very well presented, clean and equipped with everything needed for a comfortable holiday. We were extremely lucky that the British weather was unusually sunny and warm during our stay and we were able to dine al fresco most evenings. The views from the Folly were breathtakingly beautiful (especially from the rooftop) and the lounge area was a comfortable place to unwind or just watch TV. The kitchen is compact, but features everything needed for home cooking – Cooker, hob, microwave, kettle, coffe machine and fridge. A very good range of kitchenware and utensils are also provided.
On the 2nd floor is the main bedroom featuring a very comfortable double bed complete with crisply laundered linen and, again, fabulous views.
The ground floor also houses the shower room/toilet, and the shower is reliably warm . Considering the size of building, it has clearly been very well thought out to optimise available space.
Although the stairs may be a little challenging for the less able, The Folly is definitely a ‘hidden gem’ for a relaxing break, and we would thoroughly recommend.
So glad you enjoyed the experience of staying in the Folly.

"A cosy property."
Clean and well equipped. Lindy, the owner, was very friendly and on hand if we needed something. The bottle of wine on arrival was much appreciated. The stairs were good exercise. The roof terrace was intetesting with good views over the vilage. Felt like our own castle . In spring/summer it would be great to sit outside and contemplate. We used it to listen to the church bells, that were calling all the villagers for the nine lessons and carols service.
The village is friendly, with lots of walks, and a great teashop (highly recommended) . The village shop was well stocked and just down the road. All in all a great location .

"The Folly is a wonderful place to stay in the characterful village of Hambledon."
It has been sympathetically restored and is similar in many ways to a Landmark Trust property. The host is very helpful and friendly. The property is clean, and well equipped with a good bed, sofa, shower & kitchen equipment (including a Nespresso machine). The stairs are steep - take your time - but the views are wonderful. We did not make it up to the roof terrace this time. There are no street lights in Hambledon, so bring a torch! The Vine is a friendly pub with excellent ales. The local shop has some interesting speciality food items. The Bat & Ball, a couple of miles away, does a tasty Sunday roast and has a lot of cricketing memorabilia. Further afield, Alresford is a lovely town and the Flowerpots at Cheriton is well worth a detour. All in all, The Folly is not your typical holiday cottage. It will appeal to those who like to experience a place which is different to the norm.
