  • "Had a few issues with the property, broken toilet seat (which to be an ongoing issue from previous holiday makers), non-working cooker, leaking coffee machine, hard bed, non-working tv controller and a angry neighbour annoyed he received letters for the cottage (no letter box)."

Reported to Skye cottage company and ignored by owner (according to email sent from Skye cottages). However, it was a well presented and clean cottage, but we won’t be visiting again or the Skye cottage website.

Thanks for your email and your feedback, it’s incredibly useful. We did reply to Sykes but it was delayed as we had a child poorly with Covid so were behind on our emails. I’m glad the cottage was nice for you. Sorry to hear you had a few issues. We do have a property management company through Sykes who come out the same day to fix things or help out with other issues. We have had no feedback from any other guests or from our property management team who test the properties facilities at changeover. The maintenance book in the welcome pack is for our maintenance team and will include historic items. The issue stated in your email about the toilet seat relates to a previous toilet seat which was broken by a tenant. As you can appreciate during holiday lets things from time to time will be broken or wear out. We noticed that one of the toilet seat fixings is loose, causing some instability. This has now been replaced again. We have been to look at the TV remote but were unable to replicate the fault, however, we will keep an eye on it. We have also checked the coffee machine and cannot replicate this fault either. It is important to ensure that the water housing container is put on properly, we will ensure the instructions are updated to include this. With regards to the mattresses, these were all brand new about 10 months ago. We specifically chose them as mid firmness in terms of hard to soft to cover different tastes and durability. In general, we have had good feedback on the comfort of the property but I’m sorry this aspect wasn’t to your taste. Sorry you were approached by a neighbour in the property. As you can appreciate we are not in control of where the postman delivers the post, the property is clearly signposted and there is a letterbox in the front door. All relevant post is forwarded to our home address so anything coming through the door is unsolicited post and is out of our control. We hope to welcome you back at some point in the future. If you are able to come again, we will be certain to arrange a nice welcome pack as thanks and to make up for the above issues. We are always upgrading and improving the property, in fact the property will shortly be closed for the season for some renovations and redecoration ready for next season. Property Owner

  • "Extreme musty smell within property, especially in the kitchen cupboards."

Large damp patches on living room walls . Feeling of overall dampness within the lower floor of building. A significant health hazard. There were attempts made to mask smells by owners using air fresheners. Property not a cottage. In fact an annex to the rear of larger building with lower floor below ground level with no outlook at all. Disappointing location within a run down area of Ventnor. Kitchen crockery mismatched. Bedding of poor quality and poor fitting. Property description - misleading.

Thank you for staying in our much loved family home. We hope you enjoyed your stay. I would like to address the points in the review which we would have preferred to have discussed with you at the time to reassure you about your concerns rather than leaving an inaccurate review. Willow cottage is situated in a quiet side street conveniently located within minutes of shops, our wonderful high street & of course the beautiful Ventnor sea front. Willow cottage is a purely a house name given to the property & is not a description of the type of property, which is clearly shown in the 32 pictures on the website, as is the glorious backdrop of Ventnor Downs to the property. The musty smell you refer to in the kitchen was due to a small leak under the kitchen sink which of course has since been rectified & please be assured the air fresheners are not an attempt to cover any smells just to create a welcoming entrance to the property which can of course be left empty for a time between visits. The bedding in our home was purchased recently & is quality 100% cotton which is hypoallergenic, hygienic, breathable, natural & comfortable of which there are numerous sets in rotation. Your statement of damp is incorrect & is actually condensation due to the humidity caused by the beautiful island of which it situated, compounded by the solid stone walls of its 150 year old Victorian construction with modern double glazing. This is confirmed by a full survey which had already been completed on the property. Therefore there is absolutely no hazard to health whatsoever. We had already scheduled in some building work after the completion of current bookings to resolve the condensation so not to hinder any guests. Property Owner

Positioned in the seaside town of Ventnor, Isle of Wight, just moments away from a sloping beach, is this pleasant home, Willow Cottage.

Enjoying a raised garden and a patio area to bask in the sun, this two-bedroom cottage makes for an idyllic getaway for a family or four friends.

On arrival, leave your vehicle in the off-road parking space before following the set of stairs, which will lead you to the entrance of your holiday home.

Enter the property, where you will have hangers to look after your jackets and a sitting room with sumptuous sofas to kick back and relax after your journey.

Flick through the TV to catch-up on your favourite shows and when stomachs begin to rumble, step through to the kitchen/diner to make use of the electric oven and hob.

The compact kitchen/diner offers a dining table and chairs, so you can enjoy family time together, as well as a washing machine and tumble dryer to keep the space tidy.

When the sun is shining, carry the conversation outdoors onto the patio and why not uncork a bottle to savour a glass of wine as you unwind?

As the evening cools, retire inside and climb upstairs for hot rinse in the contemporary shower room before climbing into your pyjamas.

When sleeps calls, choose between two bedrooms, a double and a bunk bedroom, both with storage to house your personal belongings.

Begin the day with a home-cooked breakfast, courtesy of the kitchen appliances, as coffee is poured, and plans are made.

A short stroll will lead you to a sandy, shingle beach, where you can escape into the pages of a book, admire the vintage beach huts, and afterwards explore the seafront cafes and arcades.

Sporting enthusiasts can test their swing at Ventnor Golf Club, whilst the romantics can tour beautiful Botanical gardens for a quaint picnic.

For a day filled with fun, visit the bustling town of Newport; here you can see rescued animals at Monkey Haven and immerse yourself in the past at Carisbrooke Castle and Museum of Island History.

Also worth a visit, is the seaport town of Cowes, home to Cowes Maritime Museum to learn about ships, the Red Squirrel Trail for a scenic walk and Thorness bay to soak in the coastal sights.

For a wonderful escape to Isle of Wight, choose Willow Cottage.

About the location

Newport 10 miles; Cowes 15 miles.

The quaint Victorian seaside resort of Ventnor is located at the southern end of the island and accessed via an array of steep winding roads set amidst beautiful scenery. Sheltered by St. Boniface Down, one of the island's highest points and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this charming town has a uniquely mild micro climate enabling tropical and exotic plants to grow throughout the area. The gently sloping sandy and fine shingle beaches and coves provide excellent facilities for watersports and offer a range of stunning coastal paths to explore, while the harbour sells a broad range of fresh fish and locally-caught seafood. Ventnor is one of the Isle of Wight’s most prestigious food destinations with a good variety of high-quality restaurants,
Bistros, pubs and shops along the esplanade and close to the town centre. The Botanical Gardens are within easy reach and well worth a visit, whilst around the island there are great walking and cycling opportunities, medieval castles, historic houses and a variety of gardens and waterfalls, as well as the unspoilt fishing bay. This great holiday destination has plenty to offer all year-round, and it's easy to see why it's known as the prettiest place on the Isle of Wight!
